Great video I love the SL 70s. That’s been the one motorcycle I always wanted when I was young, but never owned one . Seeing this video I’m on the look for an SL 70 now and I’m gonna do it exactly like you did with a 125 in it.
Watching an expert such as yourself struggle with something as simple as a brake pedal was awesome - it made me feel like less of a dolt for my own struggles!
Nailed it Mike. Nice build. Reminds me of the struggles I recently had with my XL70 project. Don't worry about the paint. Looks good from here. Thanks for the mention BTW.
🛑🛑 Really Nice Job Mike!😀👍 You cleaned it up like a “new penny”. I’m looking forward to seeing it, all completed. I enjoyed the entire video. Enjoy the New Bike. 😀👍
You did a good job “threading the needle”… I mean finally getting the slightly longer Lifan engine into the frame. Showed your patience level and observation skills there. Not only is the bike a good one added to your collection, it’s also gonna be a great “flagship” for the Fall Color ride! You do good work… “Rambling Man”.
That Sl70 is pretty sweet. I haven't seen one in person but the size of the frame looks like it would be a bit better balanced with the larger 125 lifans that the ct70's appear to be. Very cool to see it put together. Keep up the great work. If you're having fun so are we.
I had a sl70 I luv'd it....I'd trade my 01yz250 for that bike in a heart beat! I think it was a 1972 give or take a year! I jumped that bike way further than it ever should have been jumped...4th gear wide open...60+ft....by the time I got my cr80 the sl was twisted so bad...with about 6 inches of exhaust left on the head.....it still ran like a Timex watch! Lol.....took a lickin and kept on tickin! Great job man!
Nice work Mike. I might have to use a few of those items like the shocks and blinkers on my bike when I get around to working on it again. I’m excited to see the final result.
great job you show the messy stuff and mistakes in bike building don't change a thing on your channel and you used a spray can to clear the tank two part clears will work better and you placed the front axel shaft in the wrong direction back one is correct not picking on you I'm a honda purist thank you for showing mistakes we are not perfect that's how we learn
Thanks! I didn’t know there was a correct direction for the axles. I’ve been building horizontal Hondas for 30 years, every bike has the front axle going in on the left side and the back axle going in on the right side. Never had a problem, guess I won’t change now, after what, maybe 300 bikes built. 🤷🏻♂️
how did you get each part for the bike i just bought a project sl70 and I need few parts to restore it bought it for 400$ it came with an stuck engine wheels+ the who frame except the plastics
@@MiniBikeMike Kinda had tunnel vision on the sl70 aspect....the lifan 125 didn't register as the same build! Then my sister distracted me for awhile ....I didn't see you put the engine in...only seen the beginning and the end of the video...sorry man!
Hey Mike, can you tell me what throttle cable you use. Building the same bike and just found the cable is too short. Thinking i may run into the same issue with the clutch cable? Thanks
Ok. I ordered stock replacement cables. The throttle cable won't allow the needle and sleeve to go all the way down, so it's at quarter throttle right off the get go.
@@davidgilman9316 It’s been a while, since I built that bike, I must have ordered a slightly longer cable. I’m guessing you adjusted the adjuster on the cable, to try and get more length?
Yeah, I fully adjusted out. I literally need like a half inch more cable. I'll search Amazon for a cable later. Thanks for the reply. I just watched your video on making the stock key switch work. I'll tackling that soon also. Keep the videos coming!
@@MiniBikeMike Sorry for my English, I come from Germany (Translation on Google) 😂. I mean an engine where the cylinder doesn't go forward but up. Like original on the SL 70.
@@thorstenschopper8941 Ok, I understand. We call those “vertical engines”. Unfortunately, I don’t collect or build any bikes with vertical engines. Everything I build has the Honda horizontal engine.
I have an SL70 and an XL70 I think they are far more like a motorcycle than the CT70, I built a CT70 and it feels like a push bike with an engine to ride, does anyone else feel that way? Feels unstable to me
My older brother had a brand new SL70 it was a 1972 or 73 not sure it was light blue we had a lot of fun on that bike !
Sounds like it might have been an Aquarius Blue K0.
You know I love it! I ride it’s brother about every day!! Hope the weather holds up for the 14th!!!
Thanks. Should be high 60’s. Hopefully, rain stays away.

Thanks. Just don’t get too close. I didn’t do the paint any favors. 🤣🤣🤣
My older brother used to have the red and white version when we were kids. That yellow is beautiful. Nice job Mike!
Thanks! I’ve had a few reds and blues, but this is only my second yellow. It’s a keeper!!

I’m no expert, just a guy tinkering in his garage…..like most of my viewers. 👍🏻
Looks great and nice sound. I like the rims. I've already thought about building one of these into a Honda Dax.
Thanks!

Thanks! As I said in the video, it’s a rider, not a looker. It’s gonna be a fun bike. !
Another great build Mike. I know you don’t normally do restoration’s but that looks like one of the cleanest bike you’ve done😀👍
Thanks. As you can tell in the video, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

Great video and entertaining
Glad you enjoyed it

So far, I really enjoy it. I’m curious how it will handle 4th gear. It may need a gearing change.

Very sweet ride. Maybe you can do some touch up paint on it. Did you use 1K or 2K clear?

I rode the bike today, for a 40 mile shakedown, and the shocks felt pretty good. The blinkers work great and their look fits the age of the bike.
Thanks again for another great video
Thanks for watching!
Looks great Mike. A sweet bike.
Thanks! Definitely a fun bike to ride.
Great lookin bike, cant wait to see it at the ride. Laura said her first bike was a SL70, go figure.

Looks great. 👍🏾
Time to button it up.
Thanks! Final video in a couple days.
Bike looks really good Mike. Be careful riding those knobby tires on pavement.
Thanks Mike. I’m probably more worried about the 50+ year old rubber flying apart at 50mph. Maybe I should put new tires on it……nah!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Mike, where did you get the tires and what sizes are they?
I didn’t put tires on this bike. I believe they’re the originals from when it was new.

Is that a Lifan engine, or an off-brand? My S65 has an off-brand, and doesn't seem to have near the power of a Lifan.
This one has covers with Lifan printed on them, but other than those covers, I can’t tell any difference from the unbranded Lifan’s.
