I feel like they wanted that to be the movies theme in the same way every Mario game has its own original theme. It’s really nice too, shame it was cut in a few scenes
The movie has three new leitmotifs: That one, which is the main theme, one for Peach, and one for Bowser. You can hear more full versions of Peach's and Bowser's motifs in 2-Player-Game and Super Mario Bros. Opus.
There are some dedicated people out there who do recuts and restorations of movies and I dearly hope that we one day will see a version of this movie with this mosic in it. Not only are these fantastic renditions filled with adorable references that keeps the beat going, but it also feels like the music writer got cheated out by not having these in. Let this be another example that jukebox films might be easier to make, but original scores just fit better since they are tailored to the movie.
When I first saw this film, I didn't sign up for listening to Ready Player One's cutting room floor. These edits fix all of that. Nintendo, PLEASE make a new cut with these unused tracks!
Still astonishing how much the score better fits the film... ...despite a very good chunk of it still being in the final film. I'll admit that the only needle drop that I felt was out of place was the Take On Me one, but I absolutely get why many had issues with the needle drops. Either way, Brian Tyler's score was easily one of the film's highlights and hearing more of it is always a plus.
All of these combine better and are more pleasant that all of those overused songs. They should give us the version with the entirety of the OS. Really makes me think if the producers put them thinking it would make people appreciate the movie more, and I'm like.. It's Super Mario? How much more do you want the people to appreciate it??
I seriously hope we get an alternative edit of this movie with these songs in their rightful place, while still being able to watch the original theatrical release version as well.
Gods, this is so much better. Absolutely love Brian Tyler's music while my eyes were practically rolling out of my head whenever one of these 80's pop songs entered the chat (or when a slow motion moment happened...).
I'm still upset Pauline didn't give the Mario Bros. a concert at the end of the movie for saving Brooklyn. Like how the heck do you not use Jump Up, Super Star?
Oh. That DK Isle theme is awesome, and a lot of the rest of this music is really good too. But, the thing that pushed it over the edge of "I need this" is that last track which has a tiny bit of the Mushroom Kingdom theme from _Super Mario RPG._
Gotta say this is pretty great. Though I still love how mr blue sky plays at the end of the movie. Look I love ELO and I love mario so when I saw that I freaked out and cheered.
Some of the licensed songs were released in 1985 the songs released in the same year the original super Mario bros came out makes some sense but I think the licensed songs were illumination’s doing not Nintendo. The music does fit well but it’s just weird having the music and voices be cut off unless there is a way to edit out the music but keep the normal audio.
I had figured they were trying to make a call back to Super Show which also used pop-songs of the era throughout the series, but you're probably right it was typical Hollywood.
Other than No Sleep Til Brooklyn, I couldn’t care less for the licensed tracks. I do hope they have a version with Brian Tyler’s restored music, especially Driving Me Bananas. Got chills hearing the Donkey Kong and Jungle Hijinx themes.
Maaan we got ROBBED hard. That was my biggest gripe about this movie, using those licensed tracks. Left a bad taste in my mouth as it felt so out of place, IMO. Thanks for putting this together. If they actually release a version of the movie that replaces the music, I'll buy it.
The licensed music only fits for the Brooklin scenes. Hearing Holding Out for a Hero, Take on me and Thunderstruck felt so weird during the movie. I'd let Mr. Bluesky pass cause it helps to give the audience the idea that Mario and Luigi stood on Brooklin until they open the door revealing that they chose the Mushroom Kingdom

Definitivamente esto hace a la película 20% más genial (más de lo que ya de por si es)

There needs to be a fan edit of the entire movie with this soundtrack!!
This makes me love the original soundtrack even more now! I’m still kinda upset that THIS wasn't in the movie and instead, we got the mainstream songs.
That driving me bananas one really hurt. That was SO GOOD to hear some classic Donkey Kong tunes. It deserved to be kept in.
I recognize the melody. It sounds like the Donkey Kong country returns title theme.
Especially the DK scene is so much cooler with this music!
100 times better. 1000 times better. Holy shit Brian Taylor got done so dirty.
This sounds so much better and I don't understand why It didn't make the cut when it all sounded so finished and good.
It’s crazy how this makes it actually feel like the Super Mario Bros rather than just the Bros
These Original tracks hit hard. Who ever decided against using them in the Final Cut deserves a banana slamma 🍌
I like how during the Kart Making scene you can still hear “Thunder Struck”
2:09 my favorite part
I do like the license Music, but after hearing the proper music I now wish they used the Music made for the scenes.
Currently rewatching The Mario Movie on Netflix before they take it off. I'm pausing and coming to this video every time I get to one of these scenes so that I can get the best experience.
3:14, is this little tune specific to the movie? It seems like it. I’ve never heard it in any of the games, but keep hearing it in parts of the movie’s score. Makes me wonder, if they make a game that’s more movie based, will it include this bit? I like that they have a “theme” for the movie with this
I feel like they wanted that to be the movies theme in the same way every Mario game has its own original theme. It’s really nice too, shame it was cut in a few scenes
The movie has three new leitmotifs:
That one, which is the main theme, one for Peach, and one for Bowser.
I can't understand the people who had the idea of putting 80's music having lots of great music on the Mario franchise
0:12 I can still faintly hear BWHOH
I think all of these fit better but i personally like holding out for a hero in the montage scene. It just makes it funnier in my opinion
It was used at my movie theater but then when i went and watched it with my family, they removed it
Oh. That DK Isle theme is awesome, and a lot of the rest of this music is really good too. But, the thing that pushed it over the edge of "I need this" is that last track which has a tiny bit of the Mushroom Kingdom theme from _Super Mario RPG._
This is so much better. Really makes it feel like a more grand adventure.
Gotta say this is pretty great. Though I still love how mr blue sky plays at the end of the movie. Look I love ELO and I love mario so when I saw that I freaked out and cheered.
There might be a universe where none of the artests said "yes " to licensing their songs. And in that universe lays a perfect movie
this music is leagues ahead of what we got, especially drivin' me bananas and the ending scene
3:57
im so damn sad they didnt use this one
It would have given me actual goosebumps to hear and see it in the movie
This works far too well. I love it so much.
It would have been really cool if we got a version of the movie with the original soundtrack with no licensed music as a special feature for the DVD.
It's for sure Illumnination hitting their licensed song quota to appeal to the kids
I had figured they were trying to make a call back to Super Show which also used pop-songs of the era throughout the series, but you're probably right it was typical Hollywood.
0:31 this really feels like the mario movie's overworld theme, it sounds great
So you telling me they FUCKING REPLACED ALL ORIGINAL MUSIC??? God damn I'm mad...
YOUR TELLING ME THIS MUCH REAL MUSIC GOT CUT
Other than No Sleep Til Brooklyn, I couldn’t care less for the licensed tracks. I do hope they have a version with Brian Tyler’s restored music, especially Driving Me Bananas. Got chills hearing the Donkey Kong and Jungle Hijinx themes.
arrrgg!!!! 'press start' is so good I cant believe they swapped it out !!
Maaan we got ROBBED hard. That was my biggest gripe about this movie, using those licensed tracks. Left a bad taste in my mouth as it felt so out of place, IMO. Thanks for putting this together. If they actually release a version of the movie that replaces the music, I'll buy it.
I dont know why, but the start of "karts!" Sounds like a rayman origins/legends song
0:35 what’s that tube that constantly repeats
It's called a leitmotif.
This has so much more heart than the needle drops. So tired of giant studios just shoving the music they own into movies where it doesn’t belong.
I desperately wish they used this instead of Take on Me. It felt so out of place
While music in itself can't make up for other flaws, it would've literally made it 10 times better, as you just proved... Thank you
Release the Director’s Cut!!
The licensed music only fits for the Brooklin scenes. Hearing Holding Out for a Hero, Take on me and Thunderstruck felt so weird during the movie. I'd let Mr. Bluesky pass cause it helps to give the audience the idea that Mario and Luigi stood on Brooklin until they open the door revealing that they chose the Mushroom Kingdom
fr
I am SO MAD we didn't get any of these in the movie. We could've had a SMRPG reference in the music of the Mario Movie but no, they just HAD to put in Mr. Blue Sky instead.
5:19 I was very surprised by this Mario RPG reference, maybe a little less surprising now that we know about the remake but I would've been shocked if I heard this in the theater
Same I did not expect that!
I mean, apparently the composer also used a leitmotif from Origami King- so it shouldn’t be that surprising I guess!
I think that one was cut because the fuckers at Square Enix own everything *new* from SMRPG.
I legit got chills just listening to it.
WE WERE ROBBED
