    Talk about a happy man! I have always loved watching Dave. He has taught me so many things. 3 weeks ago I buy a Gladiator and find out Dave will yet again be teaching me things! So excited

    You can tell this truck was put together by a guy who has done alot of product research.....very well curated product selection Dave..... everything looks like it came from the factory

    Nice to see you're setting yourself up a fine rig to go wander about in. Add a composting toilet and it'll nearly have castle status.

    I have no Gladiator, I have no equipment for car camping. But I very much appreciate this series for some reason.

    This series on your Gladiator build is great. Thank you for this. Been a jeeper for many years and I used this to verify and learn about some new systems and gear.
    It would be interesting to see an update a year later of what you still use or what you have changed.
    Thanks again, appreciate your channel.

    what would be amazing is if these two companies got together and made a version for more disabled people that can't crawl on their knees or climb a ladder easily. I'm thinking The cap with the folding tent built into the roof, so open top in the cap. Steps that fold down from the tail gate. Tent rotated with opening in back and you can walk up the tailgate with the steps. Tent folds out on passenger and driver side, allowing a passage through the middle so someone can stand in the middle (physically inside the truck bed, and the beds of the tent are to either side length wise. Allowing one to sit and lay down. Instead of crawling in on hands and knees up and down a ladder.

    You should look into one of those steps that hangs on your tire. Might help with deployment and stowing of your tent! Just a thought.

    The side straps seem to need a bit of refinement. There are a few Australian designs where they have internal bungee cords to pull the sides inwards when packing down. No need for any straps or tucking in the sides. Might be something to look at by adding bungee cords,maybe adding some grommets or tabs inside to accept the hook part of the bungees. Cheers for the walkthrough.

    Pretty cool video. Not sure if I'm into climbing up the ladder but it looks cool. It seems to be a lot faster to set up than a tent. Loving the build on the truck.

    What are some benefits of having this heavy/expensive rooftop tent vs a good ground tent? How has it effected your gas mileage and the ride of the Jeep?

    • @lumpskie
      @lumpskie 3 года назад

      In my experience, the roof top tent is faster to setup, is unaffected by water pooling on the ground during storms and offers a full size mattress which is about 4" thick.

      I have a smitty built on a Subaru gas mileage loss for me was 6 miles going the speed limits and 8 mph driving 80 and how ever I want. Weight of my tent is 109 pounds. I leave all my blanket and pillows in the tent even when close. I use it snowmobiling with a Mr buddy heater and love it. Never get dirty mine takes one person about 10 lazy minutes to put up and take down maybe. I have never taken it off with 38,000 miles on the car with the tent used for 3 years now and used about 100 times. I got 63 winter days camping and snowmobiling just last year alone. I love it. Sry dont know about jeeps gas mileage. But if your worried about gas you most likely can't afford to get a rtt

    You'll get better closing it, you have to grab those side straps as you pull down, I always velcro the ladder up. I bring a cut off broom handle to tuck excess sides sticking out. it goes pretty fast. Great set and one or the best out there.

  • @steddyk

    Dave you pretty much put together a bomb proof outdoors man dream set up, throw a pack raft in the bed of the truck and I don't think there is much that could hold you back in the outdoors.

  • @uncletomscabin2073
    @uncletomscabin2073 3 года назад

    Be careful on those ladders can be hard on bare feet, and know of a few who taken a spill off them. A mates missus broke her leg and hip getting tangled up in one as well as smashed faced that hit the ground. Slow 5 hour drive to get her to where the flying doctors could pick her up from. Another bloke I worked with ripped all his knee up falling off one three parts pissed. A lot in Australia are going away from the roof top tent and back to towing a camping trailer or swags. Check your weights as well many exceed the roof or racks load limits.

  • @bradh74

    Cool tent! That would give a person a little more security around Black Bear even though they can climb well. It's been a few years since I looked at that stuff it got expensive to buy a truck camper.

    Dave, I have some reservations about a heavy, expensive, cumbersome piece of gear to solve a problem that never existed in the first place. Some vehicle tops simply aren’t designed to carry the load. Any vehicle needs to have robust (read expensive) connecting adaptors. Any vehicle will suffer a MPG penalty.
    I know that you are an experienced, analytical person. So it must be worthwhile to you. What advantages of an off the ground on top of a vehicle type rig system am I missing? Please help us out here?

    Dave,
    I would suggest that you look into a roof rack that isn’t so tall. I’ve seen them on other RUclips videos. Lowering the tent base a few inches would be positive for several reasons.
