- Two very different cities. One is by the Atlantic Ocean, while the other is deep in the hinterlands of the Nigerian midlands. One is tropical; the other is savannah. Between them sit Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, the Congo Republic, and the DR Congo; over 500 ethnicities exist in those countries.
Both cities hold significant economic power as they are the capitals of Africa's two largest oil-producing countries. Despite the absence of a direct border between Nigeria and DR Congo, the distance between Abuja, Nigeria, and Isiro, DR Congo, is surprisingly closer than the distance between Luanda, Angola, and Isiro, DR Congo, even though Angola has a border with the DR Congo.
We will compare both cities and countries. Let us know what you think in the comment section.
What a wonderfully created programme. I never thought Nigeria was that mismanaged. Then again, with so much wealth of minerals and oil why are Nigerians so many outside their country.
I really admire your sense of brutal honesty and ability to pinpoint everything whether its good or bad. For instance, the negatives of Luanda have been clearly highlighted here as compared to Wode Maya who did a Luanda vlog sometime ago but didn't say nothing about none of that, only showing the glitz and glamour and covering affluent regions.
With that said, Luanda in its current status has been a very resilient city. It experienced 400 years of portuguese colonialism, slavery, 14 years of war for independence, 27 years of civil war (MPLA vs UNITA) including the horrendous Halloween massacre 1992 and worst of all heavy pillaging and plundering of $24B+ by the corrupt tyrranical Dos Santos crime family for 38 years
Southern African countries a well developed with good infrastructure well maintained roads connectivity
As a Nigerian, Luanda is cleaner and more beautiful than Lagos. Luanda even looks better than London UK The place is not dirty and trust me many parts of Lagos is deplorable. I love Nigeria 🇳🇬 and would not ask to be from anywhere else but give props to whom props is due. Take inspiration from the Angola and improve on Nigeria

And it took the Europeans centuries to get to where most of them are right now. Their tribes fought for centuries against each other. And Eastern Europe is so backwards that Luanda and Abuja might look first world than most of their cities. And aren't the Europeans tribes at it again with Russia fighting against Ukraine and Nato?
We can be proud of Africa that despite its backwardness, it liberated itself from the colonial powers. If it has not advanced, it is because the European are good at killing the leaders that try to do so. Lumumba, Sankara, etc were killed trying to do good for their people. Try to get them former colonizers to pay more for cocoa, oil, or any other natural resources, and the Embassies in the African capitals will call in your neighbors and even your immediate family and give them a suitcase full of money and they will stop whoever is trying to affect the European interests. Carved- up countries on their own cannot fight them folks.

The problem for many Africans is that they think that tall buildings are everything, but they are not! organization and hygiene come first, talking about afforestation and green spaces in many lake areas, in Luanda you can't walk 10 meters without seeing a tree.
and the city also needs to be well designed and not built as if it were a lawless slum where everyone does what they want. Europe doesn't have tall buildings but it has beautiful cities. What's the point of seeing tall buildings if below where we walk there are no roads, sidewalks, walkways, lighting posts, security, etc.? It's luxury in poverty.

ECOWAS boasts a combined GDP of slightly over $500 billion and a population of 413 million. Meaning, Nigeria has more people than the entire ECOWAS, and about half its GDP. Still think that is 70%?

2. Does anyone go to a government-run driving school?

5. Do Nigerians keep to queues?
6. Do 90% of Nigerians have running water, if not dug boreholes?

in Angola people wake up very early and there is more traffic from 6am to 8am then you hardly see anyone on the street and the traffic increases at 12pm and the emptiness comes again and then from 3pm to 7pm.
and the country has been experiencing a chaotic level of inflation in the last 5 years, in fact inflation started 10 years ago but has worsened in recent years so you will see many people begging on the streets, they are not necessarily all homeless people

But this ranking is not correct .Fact check shows most recent ranking places South Africa in the first position with $401 billion US dollars GDP, followed by Nigeria in the second place with $395 Billion US dollars followed by Egypt with $358 billion USD, while Algeria was placed fourth with $239 billion dollars

Abuja and its greater area cover over 150 kilometres. At its furthest point, Luanda province, which you insist is Luanda, covers barely 120 kilometres from north to south (distance from Barra do Cuanza to Panguila, 119 km).
The distance from Maitama, central Abuja city, to Abaji, still in the FCT area, is 122 km. How is Luanda province bigger than the FCT? The area designated for the FCT covers a vast land area. If you were to include the greater FCT, it soaks pockets of Nasarawa, Niger, Kaduna, and Kogi states. Those alone cover over 30,000 km2.
However, in this video, we only compared Luanda to Abuja as a city. Luanda is 113 km2, and Abuja is 1,476 km2-period! What is the point of this back-and-forth?

Most of your observations about my country and the mega cities are correct. But it is as a result of failed leadership and corrupt government where the rule of law is circumvented in virtually every sphere of public life and interpersonal relationship. The northerners flout orders with violent impunity as it pertains to cattle rearing on public roads. They clash with indigenous farmers from other parts of Nigeria as a result of their reluctance to embrace modern ranching systems. They have ruled Nigeria more than any other geopolitical zone. But they have left the country worse off than they met it through embezzlement, nepotism, tribalism and religious intolerance. While their elites are stupendously rich, their poor (the Almajiris) are more in number than any other part of Nigeria. They are kept perpetually poor to be used as cannon fodder for ethno-religious attacks and violence against other tribes and Christians. In fact, Nigeria needs total overhaul, a new constitution, and a committed set of incorruptible leaders. We are the architects of our own destruction because the most qualified are never allowed the opportunity to win elections and fix Nigeria because of their religious or ethnic backgrounds. Angola was built by Portuguese ! All old Angola cities was built by portugueses in colonial period. Angola before independence was cin top 5 the most developed country in Africa. We did made everything that we needed. The country exported manufactured products, research more about Angola colonial period , in particular in last 14 years (1961 -1974) you will be surprised!
@@JustinoCarvalho-fw1hf I'm from Benguela ( Lobito)....I did a thesis on the economic system of southern Africa (including Angola). the Angolan economic system was based on a multiracial policy where black people were treated like slaves (hence the revolution). Angola mainly had a rent economy around coffee fazendas, etc. To put it simply, the system was therefore a neocolonial system which was applied in almost all the colonies in Africa. During the revolt, Angola was totally destroyed (Huambo, Benguela, Luanda, Lubango, etc.). the current cities are the fruit of the MPLA which after the war was able, thanks to China, to rebuild the country (Angola at that time being considered communist and therefore blacklisted by the West). All these skyscrapers, roads and hotels were built after 1975. The Portuguese buildings are almost all abandoned or destroyed.

Angolan don't abandoned their culture, the portuguese tried hard to extinct or culture but their fail , just wanted remember that the portuguese colonisation agenda was diferente from British and French the portuguese come not just to colonised , but to stay that is way all Angola cities are well planed and even in all small villages you can see at time portuguese presence and time angola mad parte of portuguese territory angola use to be a portugal province or state that way was not easy to fight them.

I've been a Nigerian many years before you were conceived and brought to life. However, I'm not on the same page with the very unconventional ways in which most of you have chosen to run Nigeria.
