47:22 For a 1p shelter you can get below 2.5lbs pretty easy and without breaking the bank. Brands like Enlightened Equipment and Borah Gear make great bivys that are ~7oz, pair that with a nice DCF tarp and you can come in under 1lb. If you prefer a tent style shelter there are great offerings from companies like Mountain Laurel Designs, Gossamer Gear, Zpacks and Tarptent that come in around 1lb if you can spring for DCF or around 1.5lbs if you go with sil-nylon. There's a lot of hunting gear that's necessary and heavy, but when it comes to your backcountry gear like shelters, sleep systems, cook systems, water filters, etc. there are a ton of great ultralight options out there. And of course the most ultralight option is to simply leave something at home. Like maybe your Crocs...lol just teasing ;) But seriously, all the things I've learned about gear through getting into UL backpacking has been huge in helping get into backcountry hunting and it's something you can do in the off-season to dial in your gear for the hunt. I highly recommend checking out the /r/ultralight subreddit, also look up Andrew Skurka he's a legend in the UL community and he's recently gotten into backcountry hunting in CO so he has some great posts regarding his gear choices. Love the videos guys!!!
You are so right about taking the step to go out in the woods. As a solo hunter female I want to talk myself out, but I keep trying and it DOES get easier and I have become more confident.
I’m trying to put together a similar group for 2023. I’m inspired to do something I wanted to since high school. You all are the definition of awesomeness!
I like how quiet Steve is until that elk got shot. Then all of a sudden he is running up yelling like a mad man. Good calling and good celebration. I'm team steve!
Glad you found the arrow I figured it was still in him when you did find it. Great camera work on that shot and an awesome shot by you, Trent! Love Land of the Free videos!!!
Hey guys great Job. Hearing you say that you were finally going to get in closer on a bull before calling was a huge sigh of relief for me as that's kinda my favorite tactic. And boom you scored! Way to go!
Awesome job Trent, Trevor I commend you on you taking it upon yourself to make the 20 yard shot on the frontal and that’s it. That is alway been my yardage on a frontal shoot. I absolutely love the teamwork that you guys had. Great Episode.
Awesome video and great shot. One thing we do when hunting with a couple guys is to put a cross limb between two trees. Then we hang the quarters about chest high with some twine. Then we bone them out hanging, keeping the meat clean and easier to bone out.
I haven't finished watching tonight's episode yet but so far it's my favorite this year Trent's raw emotions is what's it's all about you guys are awesome I just wish I could join you again for the Christmas party tomorrow! Have a great time
Nice work Trent. I would like to see slow mo replays of shot placements, locations of arrow impact and discussion on you guys thoughts on the equipment you were using. Some narrative as you break the animal down on how your set performed would be awesome! Congratulations on another 6 point!
Congrats Trent on the nice Bull. Not sure if you were joking about Kentucky having Bulls or not at the 48:40 point. They do have some nice bulls now that were transplanted about 15 years ago. They have a lotto thats really hard to get a draw for about 100 out of 50000 with it being random each year. Its $10 per catagory (bow/gun/cow/bull) to get put in for more info check here: fw.ky.gov/Hunt/Pages/How-to-Enter-the-Kentucky-Elk-Hunt-Drawing.aspx
That pro tip reminded me of the time I stopped for a bit to glass this nice little draw. I sat down and hung my bow off a tree branch right beside me. 30-40 minutes later I get up, throw on my pack and continue hiking. It was easily another half hour before I realized I wasn't carrying my bow....That was a rough lesson.
22:31 i always love how Trent stroke that bull & say thank you.. it really show "one appreciation & respect on life" - you given life so we can continue to live..
Great shot on a NICE bull. Congrats Trent!!!! I also did the same thing you did with my release.hahaha I was a 1/4 mile down a pretty steep mountain. Not a fun hike back..
Great job Trent. Proud of you for not crying. I love you guys but if you could push people to other states other than my beautiful state of Colorado would be greatly appreciated. Joking, love the passion.
Great video!!! I have to say, if I had to pick one guy to have a bow in his hand, or be calling a bull in for me.........Trent would be that guy!! He just gets it done!! Bull came in fast, and got it done like it was nothing, congrats!!
Another great video from the born and raised crew. I look forward to each and every video. You guys focus on the brotherhood shared in the field with close friends sharing in Gods creation is awesome. I’m definitely A fan of this channel and what you guys represent.
Im an old guy and just learning this RUclips stuff, but I can tell you I watched 1.0 and I wait every day for your up load of the 2.0 season. Really enjoy watching it. My 15 year old son told me about you guys, son we like to watch. What is the name of your knives you use again? Thanks for sharing your journey with us. Oh yea do you make a sticker of the elk and the flag deal you have born in the wild. I want one on my truck.
My rule for my releases after over thirty years is as follows: Its either attached to my wrist or attached to my bow. It seems whenever I break that rule I end up searching for it. Crazy how that works.
Great bull! You guys played that well. It was great to see another tactic on how you guys just slipped in on the bull. Wyoming series getting better, but Montana still leading.
