    Hey guys, keep my son in your prayers. Was airlifted to the hospital today, trouble breathing. He is 6 and we watch your show every evening. Tonight he was laying in the hospital getting breathing treatments watching your show with me. Not out of the woods yet so please prayers are appreciated. His name is Dexter. Love the show. Thanks again.

    Plain and simple.... that's a bad shot bro! I'm all for frontal shot but quartering to and bull is full alert, likely to jump your shot at that distance. Lots of folks sub or watching your guy's channel so with "great popularity, comes great responsibility" to the great wapiti and big game alike. Best of luck to your crew.

      @@stinkyelk986 Great for target shooting but not on live animal. Does help greatly on your longer shot 40-60yd but I take great pride in calling. My frontals been less then 10yards each time. #TEAM TOP PIN type of distance for my crew.

      It was full frontal, not quartering to. Trevor was to the right of the camera. Didn't they say it was only 24 yards away and were shocked it jumped the string that far at that range?

      @@justinmailloux549 Justin Mailloux You must have missed the part when him and brother explained themselves on frontal "quartering" shot in the uncut... let me help ya! @47:24. Plus 24yd is beyond recommendations for frontal shot compounded by a fully alert bull.

    I feel honored to be in the comment section with so many perfect hunters. Trevor thought it was an ethical shot, I imagine he has practiced plenty with his bow and he made a judgement call. It doesn’t always work out as we know, not much margin for error in archery. Everybody is so quick to throw hate and pass judgment but nobody was really there.

    Love the series and all of your other content. The raw honesty is what keeps me coming back for more, but, that elk had you pegged. Chances were very high he would jump the string. I am a novice bow hunter, and look to these videos for entertainment, but more so for learning. I’m sure that shot can be very effective, but it leaves no margin for error on the hunter or animal. One thing I learned for sure this episode-they lost a lot of time chasing other bulls looking for one badly shot.

  • @smitty5428
    @smitty5428 6 лет назад +59

    I would have to agree with a lot of the comments, seemed like a quick pull of the trigger. I love this series and I admit things happen but it’s really sad that in 19 episodes there have been at least 3 bulls that have arrows in them that have never been found. I realize things happen but it looks like some of the shots may have been rushed and I wonder if it’s because of the pressure of making good videos for the viewers. If you had no pressure to make videos would you take these shot again?

    I've learned so much in the last couple seasons and your honesty and vulnerability make the lessons all the better. GOD bless and thanks again.

    Appreciate that you guys bring real and honest hunting to film. Everyone is going to have an opinion and of course everyone thinks they are a pro as we sit at home and watch it unfold. I don’t think having the cameras there makes a difference. As a public land hunter myself, I love that you guys are open and honest. I love the content. Keep it up. Praying for you guys and your families. Thanks again for the inspiration and motivation.

    Keep up the great work! It is easy for people to judge. Having been an archery elk hunter my entire life, I know first hand that every situation is different. The frontal shot is a tried and trued way to kill an elk in a quick and humane way. I look foward the films every day. I had my slowest season in over 7 years this year. It was a bit depressing to be honest. I dealt with high hunting pressure coupled with very little sign in my normal honey holes. Watching the series and the struggles that we as hunters share together is inspirational. It gives me drive to keep pursuing the these magnificent animals. Never stop doing what you are doing, and don't let people change what has made Born and Raised what it is.

    I feel for you Trevor, and everyone else who has wounded an elk. I wounded my first elk this year with my bow on opening morning of early season. I hit the shoulder blade with about 2.5-3 inches of penetration, a lot like Dirk's bull in Colorado. My dad and I spent all day tracking that bull, but never recovered him after losing blood several hundred yards in. I believe I saw the same bull a couple days later about 40 yards from where I had shot him. I hunted that area the entire season and never found a carcass, smelled anything dead, or saw birds. I know that elk is still alive. They're tough animals. I rushed the shot and I know I won't do it again. Live and learn from your mistakes. I appreciate how you share these moments with us, I feel that other folks just cover this up and pretend it never happens. Because if you hunt long enough, you're going to wound an animal. Thank you guys.

It is very refreshing knowing that everyone, even the pros, face the same challenges that I did. Keep up the great work guys!

    Hate to be the hater but guys you need to start thinking before you pull the trigger... I totally feel bad for you loosing the bull and know you do to yes it was not your intention . But when do you stop and think about it ? Yes it the heat of the moment and your amped up I get it. As a bow hunter we need to set the standard of when and when not to shoot. You hunt with you bow long enough you are going to find yourself in this situation more often then not maybe it it a brushy area and you think you can get the arrow through... I love what you guys promote and the otc tags dyi hunts. Respect the elk and the animal remember how many people you share with and how many aren’t the experienced bow hunter like yourself ... I will probably get hammered over this post and that’s fine... Sorry for being the negative guy just think it needed to be said.

      Kind of agree....that is not a shot I would take or advise someone taking. But, sounds like they've had success taking that type of shot before so guess that's why he took it. Just think it's marginal at best at very small target window.

      With video taping your hunts you have a great responsibility to make good ethical shots. On your hunt in Colorado you found two bull sculls that was more than likely bad shots. You owe it to the animal and yourself to make a good clean kill. On another note where do I get a hat like the one Trevor wears? I've looked through all the hats on your website and don't see it. I REALLY want one like that.

    • @garyo4456
      @garyo4456 6 лет назад +4

      Shawn Kelley - I’m a fan of notching the tag when blood is drawn. Out of state tags are not cheap and waiting for a “sure-shot” in my book is the only ethical choice. That quartering frontal never had the likelihood of a heart shot. Too late I guess to bite the bullet and notch your tag.

    After nearly 20 years of archery elk hunting I took my first frontal shot this year. My bull was 25 yards up hill. He went 12 yards and I watched him fall over within 15 seconds of the shot. It’s not for everyone and it may be another twenty years before I take a frontal shot again but they are deadly. Trevor and BRO crew, thanks for sharing the highs and lows of archery elk hunting.

    I watched all of 1.0 last year and watched Treavor feel awful about a legit kill only because it didn't go quickly.....a guy who breaks down on camera about how a kill goes down is clearly thinking about the animal he pursues....the BRO crew has always practiced what they talk about and they DON'T preach....they teach, they share, they laugh, they cry....they are honest...EVERY hunter will face situations like this...most of us have the luxury to keep private....BRO has made their endeavors public, that is their choice.....I will not judge but i will say I have observed them trying to be ethical, team players, educators and I would say also ambassadors for archery hunting....they are a fresh breath of air compared to the outdoor channel and are promoting a family friendly outdoor content.
    STAY POSITIVE....keep it going....cant wait for rest of 2.0.....and oh man how about 3.0!

      I can't agree with you more. It's easy to sit back and play keyboard warrior. Of course the person leaving the comment would never have taken that shot, well that's easy to say behind the keyboard and you don't have a camera recording your every move. Trevor has to live with that shot forever, and believe me, it will always be in the back of his mind. You never forget those bad days just as much as you never forget those good days. Love the honesty of the show. Please keep making them. If nothing else they are great lessons to be learned by all of us who watch.

    Hey Trevor, that was a tough break. Seeing the initial shot and placement, I thought that was a dead bull. It was not until the replay, that I could see the bull's reaction, which changed the angle of impact and took most of the momentum away. This resulted in minimal penetration. Interesting to see all the comments. Been whitetail bow hunting for a long time and had many jump the string, resulting in questionable shot placements. Other kills have been textbook. The need to get close and making all the variable come together is what makes bow hunting much more exciting than rifle hunting. It is a much more gratifying hunt and would never trade in my bow for a rifle. Hunt on my Brothers!

    I believe, one of the hardest things to do is to NOT take a risky shot. Just a couple days ago I passed on a blacktail buck because the shot was just too risky, I let him walk. Frontal shots are deadly if very close but personally I would of not shot with that quartering towards scenario. If you guys were greenhorns then this might be understandable but you are not. So where are we now.....5 bulls shot and 2 recovered?

    • @mnman8511
      @mnman8511 6 лет назад +4

      I think it's 5 bulls shot and 3 recovered, right? I thought Casey got one in Oregon, Steve got one in Colorado and Stubble got one in Montana. Dirk hit one with no recovery, i think? and now Trevor hit this one with no recovery. I'm not going to judge them negatively here. I've hunted over several western states with a compound over the last 15 years. I have practiced shooting hundreds of thousands of arrows. I can group arrows smaller than a pie plate no problem at 100 yards. I try my best to never release an arrow on an animal that i don't believe is an ethical shot. If I've recovered over 75 percent of the animals I've hit in my hunting experience i would be very surprised. I don't think these guys are doing to bad. Bow hunting these animals just isn't easy and there's a lot that can go wrong. BTW, not trying to pump my tires in any way with this post. There are many bow hunters far better than i am. I played back the shot on this bull many times. From my understanding of elk anatomy up front, this looks like a perfect shot to me. The only argument for not taking the shot that makes any sense to me is that the elk was alert and tense. Can be tough to gauge in the moment though. Like they said, they've had good success with this shot angle in the past. I very well would have taken the shot too so, personally, I'm not going to judge.

      Isaac Kvistad I hear you. There was also the bull that Phelps lost. So I have actually lost count at this point, just sucks is all.
      I have been following these guys for years, since the first dvd. I also have been hunting hard and a way of life for about 33 years. Early was riffles and muzzleloaders and in the last 20 years has been my bow. I have lost animals...occasionally. But my recovery rate is very very high and would like to keep it like that. Like I said in my original post, the hardest is not forcing a bad shot. When I watched this episode, the bull tense and ready to spring, the hard quartering angle, I thought “don’t shoot” and Trevor let it go. When the bull turned I knew that they would never put a hand on him.
      Don’t get me wrong, I love the bro crew. I have met some of them and were wonderful. I will also continue to watch but this is getting bad with that many losses. Just saying is all. Happy hunting to you!

    Casey does awesome job of taking Trent's spot for the team in the mornings😁 it's funny how much a like they are they could pass for brothers same for Trevor and Logan 😂 it's good to hunt with good people 👍👍👍

    BRO crew you guys are real, this IS hunting. All the couch coaches think they “know” they wouldn’t take that shot and that is was a bad shot. Good shot Trevor! Hit bone, it happens. My dad killed a bull two years ago with a broad head stuck in its shoulder and had completely been absorbed by scar tissue. Bull was perfectly healthy, as is Trevor’s bull to this day. They are tough animals. Stop saying this and that unless you’ve had the experience and were with them. Thanks for keeping it real guys!

    Wow I can not believe the bull moved that fast and far with 24 yards of distance. That arrow is probably traveling at close to 300ft per second. If my math is right it took .25ish seconds for that arrow to hit. While I don't think i personally would take a quartering to shot on an elk knowing how tough elk are. I wouldn't fault anyone for taking that shot at that distance. It's easy to bag on someone for that but until you've walked in those shoes you don't know how bad he feels. Great video guys thanks for showing the good, bad, and fugly.

    Shot a whitetail last year when Trent had his was a great help in dealing with it. I kept hunting and had an opportunity a week later and couldn't get myself to take the shot was still hoping to find him. It's hard on your soul when you do that. I feel for you Trevor!! Sorry it happened and good luck on the rest of your season!

    It is what it is. You did the most humane thing and he's going to be sore for a few days but you have to realize it's all part of the hunt. Win some lose some. I can only say, great job boys.

    I am an avid elk hunter and think between you guys and elk 101 this year you are giving the anti hunters too much fuel for their fire. I’m sympathetic to a bad shot but there have been waaay to many

    Trevor it sucks, I know. I had it happen to me my first elk season 7 years ago. I was sick to my stomach. I kept hunting and then got shot shy. Kept passing shots because they werent perfect. It still haunts me to this day. Butbi am now able to make great shots again. My moose only went 50 yards last year from a perfect shot.
    Keep your chin up and drive on.

    Nothing always works out exactly the way you want but you have to learn as you go and the videos help us all learn more than self diy season by season. It even happens to rifle hunters so not to fret keep it up

    Hey guys all these guys that a bad mouthing the shot need to really keep their opinions to themselves because they weren’t there. The fact of the matter is hunting with close range or primitive weapons is so different then these guys who strictly rifle hunt or sit in blinds and have all day to wait for the perfect broadside shot. When the animal is there and the shot window is presented each hunter has to know their ability and confidence level and that way they are the only ones who can criticize their own shot choice. I’ve hunted for nearly 25 years and bow hunted for 10 and I’ve seen way more animals wounded and lost with a rifle than a bow. So Trevor keep your head up and keep pushing forward and don’t let these comments from others hinder your confidence. Great video I really appreciate the honest footage because we all have experienced tough shot and misses and if people say they haven’t they havent hunted hard enough or long enough!!!

    Please consider putting an "event timer" on the screen from when an "event" starts until it stops to give the viewer a better idea of the passing of time during an "event'. It would be nice to better understand how long various things take (since the footage is edited.)

    Just recently took my first deer with a bow. Such an exhilarating experience. Been bow hunting Colorado for a few years and haven’t tagged a bull yet. By far my biggest bucket list item is to tag an elk with a bow. So terrified to have an instance like this occur. Can’t let it stop you though. Tough break Trevor. Get even next time bro!!!
