Thank you! Finally someone calls out Axial and their major flaw, *THE LEFT TURN* I really like their products but even my SCX6 has the issue. It was nearly $1200! It shouldn't have ANY major issues, especially with something as simple as steering geometry. The UMG 6x6 can turn nearly 90 degrees, I don't know where they went wrong between the .2 and .3 but they really need to fix it.
The consumer is the true winner in this situation - I really don't think you can go wrong here! 👍 Very few people are going to leave their trucks stock and both trucks have tons of aftermarket support to make them excellent crawlers. I think it just comes down to brand loyalty.
I been watching lots of video on this base camp and I have to say I’m impressed as someone who is looking for a rock crawler /trail truck and not the biggest crawler guy this might be the one to add to my collection
They are both great!! Just buy them both!!! Thank You for the great video!!! Can't wait to see some upgrade videos of the Axial. Although it doesn't need much. The TRX 4 is still a awesome crawler right out of the box and also doesn't need much in upgrades. Can't go wrong with either one for sure!!!
Great unbiased review! I loved the fact you did an after market tire test. The improvement from just that change alone, ups the abilities of both trucks immensely. I'm ordering a set of Hyrax tires as we speak. Wondering if you'll be reviewing the new RGT crawler, I think it's the 86170, which seems to be a direct Traxxas challenge.
Remove the front bumper on the trx4 and you would get better approach. Stock I'd say it's still close for a 3yr old version. But the comparison was spot on! Unless you can fix the turning Radius trx4 will still be king. My opinion but im sure you will tweak both for best performance.
Loving the videos and got my first trx4 for my wifey and I find the cable lockers a waste kinda think for mine I’ll get the sport and upgrade to a 2spd after a bit
WOW Frances I never thought I'd ever hear you crown anything the winner over a Traxxas let alone the sport lol !! Nice review that's why I love your channel, your Honest and not for sell !!
As a trx4 sport owner, I’m no fanboy of any brand but I think the trx4 sport is a great rig but it’s old. The axial base camp is refreshing to see and I think it will be equal or even trump over the trx4 sport. Definitely will be buying one for sure.
Nice review! I've indeed modified my trx4 sport front bumper.....and about everything😅 it is indeed an awesome budget kit crawler. But now, thanks to you I want an axial III😍
It's definitely a great comparison. Stock for stock, the Base Camp takes it. Better approach angles because it has different bumpers, and it doesn't have rock sliders. Take the bumpers off of both and the rock sliders off the TRX, and I say the TRX regains it's crown. I have both. They are both great. But my TRX seems to outperform the Base Camp. Thank you for the content. Your reviews have literally impacted my purchases a great deal.
Great review Francis, I currently have 3 Traxxas and 3 Axial crawlers and love them all the same. Im not looking to get either of these trucks, however im sure I would be quite happy with either. As another reviewer said " the Axial would make a perfect loaner truck " for any company that would like to try their hand at crawling. That way you dont have to give one of the more expensive rigs to a novice to try.
Both awesome vehicles to get into crawling or add to your fleet. Traxxas is a tank but the Axial would have the performance edge. Both can be tuned up to have a great day out. Cheers 👍
After seeing the first comparison video I thought that the TRX4 won because you just got so much more bang for your buck, but after seeing this I was very surprised at how well the SCX10 did things the TRX4 couldn’t do. I think especially with all the licensed parts the axial has it’s probably got to be the winner for me.
Right? Same here. This fulfills the promise of the SCX10 III. And it really points out why Traxxas should introduce new crawlers and not just repackage the same platform for 5 years.
trx4 for all the life! scx transmission high and in the center, trx4 low is forward, the best has only the axles that steer more but are fragile, nothing breaks at the trx4
Very interesting comparison video.About half way through I thought the Axial had the slight advantage ,but for my personal choice it would be tough call.Keep up all the good stuff you do. Much appreciated, 👍👍👍😀😀😀😎😎😎 from the UK.
Thanks, again very informative review. The front to rear weight distribution was a huge surprise, I was expecting 60/40 where many aim with mods. I really like the Axial better electronics and it seems to be really quiet, drivetrain etc. My TRX-4 Sport(TRAXX) was annoyingly loud and the electronics made it really hard to control on low speeds.
I would have to agree I thought overall the Base Camp was the winner. I really like the fact that you did apples to apples by using the same tire f foams on both vehicles. I think both on stock tires would be fair too. You did make a few lines at the beginning with stock tires which was cool.
Have you taken a look at the steering at all on the Basecamp to see if there’s any fix or adjustment to be made to make it turn more equal? Or is it just in the design?
Excellent review as Always Francis. Exactly why I love your channel. I had my money on the Axial..(I've got a soft spot for the original scx-10 lol) . Think for an entry level crawler Axial have hit a few wins on the Base Camp. That front bumper is perfect!! Just by looking at it there wouldn't be a whole lot to change.. decent motor and ESC (I'm thinking a 1800kv Fusion) and proven tires and you have a great setup that'll go almost anywhere you want. The Left steering is a bit of a worry though. Is there anyway to modify where it's stopping turning further? Or.. is it the byproduct of a chassis mounted servo?
Thanks for the great review! In the video the Axial was smoother getting up steep inclines. What is your opinion on shocks, springs oil on the two? TRX4 was bouncing alot.
I have scx10 wrangler and from day one I've had issues out of the box which in turn horizon hobbies basically told me to ship it back to them they wouldn't send the items we agreed were issue's, my hobby shop was a go between ,for us but they would budge so for that going forward no more money from my pocket will go to any horizon hobbies products
I don't think you should have tested them with Hyrax's. For an honest side by side comparison i feel you maybe should have taken a "Full Stock" approach. Hyrax tires can make any vehicle great but that means spending about $100 to get a set of wheels.
If Axial had the Base Camp as well as their 'Smart' batteries & charger when I entered this hobby in 2019 only the TRX-4 Sport's cheaper price would cause me to vacillate on my purchase. Today I have several makes of crawlers and bashers ALL using Traxxas iD batteries and appropriate plug 'adaptors'. IMO Axial's NOT meeting or beating the TRX-4 Sport price lost them $$$$$$$'s in Smart Chargers and Smart Batteries.
They look quite even. Somewhere Axial with no sliders seems more agile and front bumper makes the difference. Hard to say which is the best. For sure Axial body is...... no words. Ciao Nanni
I've read that the servo horn hits the upper pan-hard mount.. a bit of shaving would help a lot. I don't have one but I'd definitely give that a try if I did.
The Axial axles have an awesome steering angle, it mustn't be set even on the servo horn and drag link or something along those lines. Maybe a bend in the drag link to clear diff cover. There is a reason they are well represented in competition and high performance rigs. Cheers mate 👍
TRX4 has the tightest steering radius of about 30 vehicles we've tried, locked diffs. Unlocked... even better. It's not just the angle too but the steering geometry is dialed.
Idk man....in today's market, 370 - 390 is just way too much for what little you get on these two. They're not nearly worth the money you spend, anymore. Maybe 4 years ago. Not today. We can buy a redcat gen7 and upgrade it to the 9 and still be under 400, and trash a stock trx4 sport. A name is worthless. Traxxas proves that on road cars....and all of them lately. Idk man.....nice trucks but more like $250 tops
I can't watch your show. You can't change things on them and say that it's still stock I want to see actual brand new outta the box untouched then see which is the best. You always mess with something on one of them which can't be a true side by side comparison of traxxas and axial

The previous upload was low quality and cut short. Reuploaded it but lost some comments so please repost. :)
Flip the bumper mount on the TRX you will get just as much clearance as the axial😀

I really appreciate the unbiased format of this channel. Thanks!
Thank you. Not easy having to wait 2 months til the vehicles are available to the general public but worth it.
I been watching lots of video on this base camp and I have to say I’m impressed as someone who is looking for a rock crawler /trail truck and not the biggest crawler guy this might be the one to add to my collection
How are you liking it?
The TRX4 Sport had a good run, I can’t wait to buy the Base Camp in the next week or so….should be excellent with a few mods.
You did a great shoot out of this two great rigs . Keep the good work coming .
Thank you. Happy the result and I learned a bit about the two rigs.
They are both great!! Just buy them both!!! Thank You for the great video!!! Can't wait to see some upgrade videos of the Axial. Although it doesn't need much. The TRX 4 is still a awesome crawler right out of the box and also doesn't need much in upgrades. Can't go wrong with either one for sure!!!
on the base camp the servo horn hits the upper panhard mount. with a little shaveing you can get the steering radius back
Aha!!
I run a G Made BOM which is how I originally found your channel. Back when I first got into crawling. Keep up the good content
We have a new Gmade to review!
Great unbiased review! I loved the fact you did an after market tire test. The improvement from just that change alone, ups the abilities of both trucks immensely. Thanks for a great review, not ready to give up my TRX4 Sport yet.
I'm glad I sold mine years ago.
@@SnarkyRC Good on ya m8 😒

Definitely, that's how we run ours. But Traxxas really should address that, even with a low-profile upgrade version.
@@RCReviewChannel just flip the bumper mount and it’s close to axial. Free simple upgrade. 👍
The TRX4 Sport really needs brass on the front portal axle covers too. It makes a night and day difference.
Loving the videos and got my first trx4 for my wifey and I find the cable lockers a waste kinda think for mine I’ll get the sport and upgrade to a 2spd after a bit

Excellent analysis as usual. I am still enjoying my Sendero HD but my next crawler will definitely be the base camp.
It's a good next base project car!
As a trx4 sport owner, I’m no fanboy of any brand but I think the trx4 sport is a great rig but it’s old. The axial base camp is refreshing to see and I think it will be equal or even trump over the trx4 sport.

Dope is a bad thing...
Nice review! I've indeed modified my trx4 sport front bumper.....and about everything😅 it is indeed an awesome budget kit crawler. But now, thanks to you I want an axial III😍

Both awesome vehicles to get into crawling or add to your fleet.

Well put. Both good cars to get started with and capable platforms to build on.
Forgot what I said in the first one but great comparison. Both very capable trucks. Another video well done sir!

I'm glad that worked out. Gave an idea about the stock tires and then gave context to what Hyrax can do to an RTR
Got the 79 bronco because of you and love it so thanks I guess

There is no other youtube better chanel like this in terms of crawler cars.
Thank you, I really appreciate it
Great video. Very nice to see this same time, same trail comparison.
With regards to the poor left turn on the axial, how can this be fixed?
Thanks for the great review! In the video the Axial was smoother getting up steep inclines. What is your opinion on shocks, springs oil on the two? TRX4 was bouncing alot.
Can you help to get battery & charger for Axial SCX10 Base camp, is there at Amazon?

Do you have a brushless motor in the Traxxas? If not do u recommend one? Thanks
I think that bumper definitely let the TRX4 down. A new bumper would level the playing field a bit.
I don't think you should have tested them with Hyrax's.

Great comparison but I have my eyes set for for the Enduro Ecto, what do you guys think?
What size is the spec tire? Thanks
Like always, great vid. If I’m well on my way to pick one up looks like a great rig.

I didn't think it would....I believe the axial performed just a little better. I honestly wouldn't have bet on it. I'm surprised
Awesome video! Base camp is the clear winner!
Very good video. Trx4 been on top for awhile now. Ready fir the next video
Yeah, more coming!
They look quite even. Somewhere Axial with no sliders seems more agile and front bumper makes the difference. Hard to say which is the best. For sure Axial body is...... no words. Ciao Nanni
Our observations as well. Box stock though, the Axial seems better at tech crawling.
I'm just here to make sure I own the better one...Dangit.
Sweet crawler for sale.
:) make some room on the shelf
Your from San Diego ?
RC Review,
How come you have not reviewed the SCX6 yet? Is it just that this size of RC is not in the scope of your channel?
Only thing I don’t like abt the base camp is all that body noise. Sounds like it’s falling apart. But dang it can crawl
Axial won, but it's a little too narrow, moreover, it is probably the tires helping it to victory...
I'm a huge traxxas fan but I have to admit, axial is right there with them. You can't go wrong between these two.
❤ thanks for this review bud!
Any time sir!
Base camp is the king
On full turning lock does the tyre rub against the underneath link bar? Also are the electronics waterproof out of then box?
If axial released this truck as a kit, what do you think their target price would be!?
$310 as a kit i hope
Nice! I agree 100% the Basecamp was just a little better overall. Is there a fix for the steering?
Radio where you can set endpoints. My 10.3 got full steering left/right.
I've read that the servo horn hits the upper pan-hard mount.. a bit of shaving would help a lot. I don't have one but I'd definitely give that a try if I did.
Good comp. I'm a Traxxas fan. But good show
Same. Love Traxxas but I fear they will not update the TRX4 in the next 5 years... just like the Slash
@@RCReviewChannel don’t say that!😫😫😫. Lol
Would the TRX-4 Bronco beat the Axial Base Camp?
Prob not as it’s a scaler rig with extra weight. The sport beat the base camp by simply removing the bumpers. 1 min mod.
Trx4 My wishlist rigs 🤩🤩
Scx10 base camp is 390 vs sport for 370
#Rcreview hey my qestion is it a waste of money to buy Axial scx 24 instead of saving for the 1/10
Why that one cost more and it doesn’t even have clear windows
Let Traxxas update the Trx4 Sport and then try again. The Axial is a newer generations crawler. I like it though!!
Hello sorry i am french, i want to by scx 10.3 base camp or traxxas sport what your advise me?
I would recommend the axial basecamp. It is more modern and current. It is lighter as well making more build options Possible
@@RCReviewChannel thanks what option do i must have?
Great video@
I gotta say the trx4 is still king
Scx10.2 Honcho still the best for the money.
Is this the MTBR guy?
I'm not a trx fanboy but performance issues in trx sport is easier to solve than in Basecamp.
TRX is more durable and can handle more speed, power, weight and trail crawling if one wants to go that route.
Nice video bro
Traxxas has more available and upgradable parts. Much easier to customize how you want.
The TRX-4 is known to have terrible steering angle... If the Base camp doesn't steer left as well as a TRX-4.... Both terrible for comps
The Axial axles have an awesome steering angle, it mustn't be set even on the servo horn and drag link or something along those lines.
Maybe a bend in the drag link to clear diff cover.

1st thing I can see is the tires on the TRX4 are worn out on the edges unfair advantage I'd say...................
Final something to put Traxxas on there heels
Maybe realizing axial is on there ass they will update the trx platform
Looks about the same too me.
The Axial "Sport" for the Axial Fanboy.
