    I've been checking your channel for a review of the Basecamp since it came out, so I'm super glad to see this. I think this Basecamp, with its reconfigured transmission and motor placement, finally puts the SCX10 III back on the evolutionary path of its excellent two predecessors. I, too, felt that the original 10 IIIs gave up too much of the balance and simplicity that this line is known for - all for marketing features that the original pre-Horizon Hobby Axial engineers never would have chosen. I'm not necessarily in love with the body of this, but I'm super glad to see a single speed transmisson and mid/low mounted motor. Can't wait to see how it performs at your crawler park!

    • @RCReviewChannel

      Evolutionary path... yes. Now this SCX10 iii has an upgrade path and can be made to do different things, especially high performance.

    I really wish someone would just come out with a Tacoma gen 3 body licensed already!!!!! Lol. Axial missed a good opportunity there I think. Make it have options for lights and some bling and it would of looked sharp and they woulda sold a shit ton! Great video as always Francis. Looking forward to the 2nd. 👍

    The reversible gear is used for when you want to upgrade to the non portal axle. Remember portal axles run in reverse.

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  2 года назад +3

      Agreed. But why not just reverse the wires? Or just reverse the motor with ESC programming or transmitter programming

    • @lonniemuncy1005
      @lonniemuncy1005 2 года назад +2

      @@RCReviewChannel I think it has to do with where portal axles have so much gear reduction.When you change over to straight axles and flip the gear I think it changes the gear ratio in the trans.Not for certain though.Can't wait for the comparison of the 2 trucks.

    • @rcxventures
      @rcxventures 2 года назад +1

      This is an entry level truck vehicle and most beginners like to work on things but never mess with electrical. As far as reversing the transmitter I would assume most beginners don’t have a programmable transmitter. I’m not sure about the boot camps stock transmitter if it has the capabilities to reverse. I don’t have a scx10 but hopefully one day.

    • @valuerc2664
      @valuerc2664 2 года назад

      @@RCReviewChannel I am not an expert on brushed motors, but some motors have built in advance timing, so if you run them in reverse it will be reduced timing. I believe standard 12t Traxxas has no significant advanced timing so it could run fine both directions, not really sure, on brushed erevo and emaxx they have reverse rotating 12t motor

    • @walspeed
      @walspeed 2 года назад +1

      @@RCReviewChannel Once the brushes are bedded in in one direction, the motor is much less effcient in reverse. Also, some esc's dont support reverse motor operation. That and it also changes the gearing in the transmission for more reduction when running straight axles since the portals have a good bit of reduction in them.

    I just want to say thank you guys for being the first channel to cover this question..... I have never been so "underwhelmed" about an Axial release, and it looks like it was designed by committee (compared to their previous releases) I'm already tired of Horizon Hobbies' corporate bullshit, and especially considering the target market for this thing, consumers need an honest comparison. So thank you

  • @microrigs
    @microrigs 2 года назад +6

    Both seem to be very similar in specs and performance! In my opinion, the choice for the TRX4 brings the benefits of a longer history of bullet proof construction and option parts everywhere. But in those fields the Axial has a lot of benefits too...

    As usual one of the best review of this new car.
    I agree with all negative points of SCXIII, in fact I bought Gladiator only because my child like it... and finally is really cool !
    I tried Proline Gladiator body... but is a toy.. too small for 1/10 chassis... a really strange mistake from Proline quality.
    Fortunately I found a better RGT Gladiator like body... but in any case Axial Gladiator is really better looking.
    I also agree that this cheap body is awful.. I don't understand why not place a bit more attention to the look... SCXII as many better bodies with a reasonable cost...

    I despise Traxxas but I must admit that the TRX4 body looks better overall. On the other side The axial comes with far better electronics, just for that I'll keep the Axial. Both are still using "U" shaped frame beams... (That's funny if we think that the underrated Yikong Pro/Absima Khamba comes with one piece machined solid chassis). Not my cup of tea but acceptable to a certain degree. Good honest review and comparison, thanks. sir.

    The servo arm on mine is metal. I just bought the TRX4 a week ago. I’m new to this category but isn’t it weird where the axle goes into the top portion of the portal it’s just wide open? Like the bearing is there and the CVD portion, I would think you’d want a boot there to keep dirt and stuff out.

    The Trx 4 line of trucks are pretty well built they can take quite a bit of "driver errors" AKA spectacular
    Crashes before you do real damage.i have a few axial trucks as well also good trucks,most trucks need upgrades.We will see how the base camp hold up after some use.

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  2 года назад +1

      Yes, from our experience the TRX four will prove to be more durable. It can take almost any level of crash because it is so beefy

  • @MRMechanicRC
    @MRMechanicRC 2 года назад +4

    They both look great. The axial definitely has the edge as far as the details and body goes, and they have a better servo too (nothing is worse than those 2075’s 😂) but the trx4 has a better motor and esc which gives it more power and speed (and probably more control) and it has that infamous steering radius. I think the TRX4 is still king unless you want scale looks over performance.

    • @valuerc2664
      @valuerc2664 2 года назад +2

      I like the look of trx4, it looks like axial body is super flimsy. 2075 servo is not the best in any way, but I think it's enough for rtr car. I have bigger rc4wd tires, steel rims, some weight and still turns fine, even my UDR has plenty of power. While some cheap servos may have more torque, they tend to develop terrible play and slop in the gearing, including spektrum servos. Also relatively weak servo will not put a lot of stress on linkage and suspension

    • @MRMechanicRC
      @MRMechanicRC 2 года назад +2

      @@valuerc2664 that’s true, but when your looking to do crawling where you might get the wheels stuck on a rock or something the 2075 just doesn’t usually have it in it to get the truck out of there. I will say though that the Traxxas servos have been slowly getting better over the years.

    • @valuerc2664
      @valuerc2664 2 года назад +2

      @@MRMechanicRC yes, that's 100 correct, when you get stuck stock servo is weak. But personally I would never go with something ridiculously powerful like (true) 40 or 50kg. It will put a lot of stress on linkages and suspension. Trx4 doesn't have servo saver so a weak servo I guess is a substitute for it. I guess true 20kg servo would be a sweet spot.

    • @MRMechanicRC

    Comparisons against the Sport were inevitable but I think Traxxas comes out ahead on this. Not really the point though. The Base Camp is obviously designed for beginners and as such, it has a lot going for it (ugly body aside). Where this vehicle will shine though, is as a 'base' for some crazy crawler projects that will likely surpass the SCX10 ii Builders Kit in popularity. In fact, I expect Axial to release a kit version that is bound to be the basis of plenty a comp crawler!

  • @douglaselliott8298
    @douglaselliott8298 2 года назад

    The Basecamp is $20 more than the TRX-4 Sport. If Axial/Horizon hoped to capture the trepidatious, money-conscious first-time buyer while almost asuring the purchase of both Smart Charger and Smart battery(s) as well; they failed. I WAS that "trepidatious, money-conscious" first time buyer 3 years ago. Today I have a TRX-4 Sport, several Traxxas iD batteries, an iD charger, and several sub $10 EC3, EC5 to iD adaptors.

    • @n7sithis336
      @n7sithis336 2 года назад +2

      Personally, I'm that buyer and leaning Axial, can already use the same batteries my senton and kraton use. So cheaper than the traxxas. Also Traxxas business practices are just scummy, I'd rather avoid that company anyways.
