Omar Jasika has received the final wildcard for the maindraw which is great too see. Alex Bolt and Bernard Tomic all qualified using there rankings to get into the qualifying draw while Jason Kubler used his protected ranking of 140 to get in. The wildcards in qualifying where awarded to Marc Polmans, Matthew Dellavedov, Blake Ellis, Dane Sweeny, Edward Winter, Jason Kubler, Pavle Marinkov, Hayden Jones and Cruz Hewitt. Out of that group of players who do you think can make the maindraw. If I had to pick I'd say Bolt, Sweeney, Kubler, Tomic, Ellis and Polmans. Who do you think can make the maindraw?
G'day @DynamicPool28 - how are you? Thanks for the 'heads-up' you beat me to the punch with that news. A straight-up report tomorrow: * ruclips.net/video/q-TzpdTT-FY/видео.html Appreciate your insights. I profiled Omar a couple of years ago as a Wildcard. Wasn't up to speed with his recent success. Hayden Jones won young player of the year at recent TA awards - might profile him. Has to be a player if he's pipped young Cruz for that award (his time will come). I agree with your pics - Polmans may go well. I admit to a bias for Tomic, but pleased to see he's finally maturing and applying himself.
It would be nice to see Cruz Hewitt do well in the Open, following in the steps of his dad. Good to see Bernard Tomic still giving it a go. Just when we think he's calling it quits, he's back! He's like Kyrgios - a great player but has trouble with his mindset. Hope he wins a few games 😊
G'day @tennisfancaz22 - how are you? Yeah I think I have a bias for Tomic, but pleased to see he's finally maturing and applying himself all the same. Four years since he's played at AO. Interesting to see LH comments about Cruz H. Never figured LH for having a 'nurturing' 'he should enjoy himself' type of Dad/coach...but then he's been DC Cup leader for what...3 to 4 years? I always thought LH an ok guy off the court, especially in his latter years....but took me some time to warm to him. Still have a vague plan to catch CH at junior boys in Traralgon, but undecided so far - it's a 3 hour train ride... long return trip for a picture.
@@thisaustralianopenlife I've been okay, but tested positive for COVID today 😭 .. It's thrown my work and Christmas plans into disarray, but I'm feeling okay - it's just like a minor cold. I've always thought that Bernard Tomic wasn't given a fair go when he first started playing. He wasn't one of the "popular" players, but he always gave his all on court. Hope he can get to the third or fourth round, or even further, in the AO! I used to like watching Lleyton play - his focus was very intense and he kept a lot of emotions to himself, although his "Come On!" cry was legendary! Hubby never liked him but I admire his determination and introspective nature. He was a real Aussie battler and worked very hard to get to the top of the tennis ladder! Cruz (such a cool name 😄), is showing potential already so it would be fantastic if we have another top 10 Aussie player in the ranks. We do have a lot of talent, but the top 10 has been elusive for a while, other than Alex DeMinaur. If you do decide to take the long train trip, I look forward to the photos or videos of Cruz in action!
