Unless you learn to shorten the backswing situationally for those high speed scenarios. If you have time on the ball, elongated backswings can still work. funky backswings can still make it in the ATP - (tiafoe, Medvedev, khachanov, even Kyrgios on certain forehands)
His Tiafoe kind of forehand will cause him problems. He should study sinner or alcaraz - who have more compact shots, can adapt to different surfaces well.
Yes every tennis match Leyton is their with Tennis Australia guys supporting Cruz Hewitt. I feel sorry for the other Aussie kids he has to play all that pressure on them very unfair

Really not liking the forehand. Very wrist intensive. Plenty of opportunity for it to fly, and timing needs to be on point due to very narrow window thanks to the technique. I can see a lot of shanks, especially when we add bad bounces, poor identification, and high speed from opponents. I would never teach this to a player.
@@NotSettlingForSecondBest Yes, because using world number ones as a "standard" is going to work for this player? You have to remember that these are players that have developed this shot since their junior days, for literally years, if not decades. There are plenty of ways to hit a tennis ball that are not extreme, and you can look at the current extensive crop of players who do NOT have such extreme techniques.
As an Aussie, and a dinkie die Leyton fan (still am), I hope and pray Cruz breaks into the top 100 soon, then climbs to #1 ... long way I know, and very unpredictable too, but he has the right support people around him. Have watched him from his very first Dec Showdown Nationals, and boy, has he come a long way!!! Hewitt all the way! Oi, oi, oi.
I’m sure with all Leytons money and Tennis Australia connections Cruz will get wildcards and be in the Davis cup team for the next 20 years. I just feel sorry for all the other poor kids out their just as good but will never get that shot.
Yea he sure does have enough support Leytons money and all Tennis Australia, don’t worry about the rest of the young players trying to come through. Let’s just solely focus on one no wonder Tennis Australia never gets it right
Better be teaching him hard court sliding drills and strong footwork or he isn't going to stand a chance. Today's different, you have to be able to play incredible defense, he better be able to do the splits.
The team should help him with his technique to raise his level further. Subpar forehand preparation, barely using his left hand to wind up. And too tense on the backhand, pulling up his left shoulder to his chin.
Footwork and body movement is progressing nicely, if you look at Sinner at 16, his technique wasn't perfect either and he changed it later to a modern forehand. Probably only half a second too long in the prep. Easy fix.
So nice to see tennis carried on in the family though . If,as techniques r not good as folk say, they need to be corrected soon if he wants to achieve ✅✅🙏👍🏻
Commenters trippin--his FH is fine. Looks fine. solid western grip, modern FH. HIs backhand is intriguing tho. looks like he gets a lot of topspin on is which if perfected will make him deadly.
Having four pros surrounding you when your dad was a good player, just shows what money can buy and how the lack thereof can exclude the really talented. If he wins his first grand Slam, I will eat my hat. Take me up on that.
What a clown you are DN-kz7xl. His dad was number 1 in the world, and worked his ass off to get where he is today. There are limitless opportunities for talented kids with or without money. Does it hurt to have money growing up in sports? Of course not. But ultimately it’s on the player and them alone to grind and win matches and perform. Good take your nonsense elsewhere.
both backhand and forehand looked off somewhat; The forehand is sort of next generation, which will lead to injury and early retirement. On his backhand, feels his body and shoulder unnecessarily tensed up to bring out power, again not a good technique for longevity.
I don’t like his forehand. It’s “nextgen” but there’s still a lot of effort in it, he seems to be catching it late and pushing it. There’s too much force/exertion/strain. Not sustainable and will cause him problems.

The greatest legend of all, Tony Roche was there coaching Cruz Hewitt. He coached Hewitt senior to two major titles.
Tony Roche also coached Roger Federer, during that period Federer won 6/10 GS.

Your forehand looks great :)

Awesome to see Lleyton's son carrying the tennis torch like Seb Korda does. How cool is that?

hes only 15 so anything could happen. his forehand is really weird tho idk if weird swings like that can hold up nowadays
why does aussies all hit forehands like that? kyrgios kokinakis popyrin etc...

He's got the Kyrgios forehand, but unfortunately the backhand too, he has to learn to bend the legs on the BH

Hitchy forehand and a tight backhand. I don't know!
