So I saw your one macro shot in there at 1:43 but it was quick. How is this for macro? Similar at all to the Laowa 15mm f4 macro? Would like to see more shots with this at it's closest focus.
I used to own the Laowa 15mm F4 Macro 1:1. Used it in my Sony a7s back in the day and it was such an amazing lens. Sharp and the Bokeh was awesome when i used it for close ups. Not sure why people don't like using wider lenses (15mm - 35mm) for close ups, i understand that distortion might be a thing but close ups can look so beautiful on wider focal lengths.
Depends on the style you're seeking. Bruce Gilden does great closeups with wide lenses but he isn't aiming for flattery. Most people don't look their best in closeup on a wide lens.
Cinematographers such as Emmanuel Lubezki and Rodger Deakins are pretty known for their use of wider focal lengths on close ups but I agree, it depends on your story and style. Nice work none the less! loving your work!
Nice Brandon, I've been thinking about using the EOSHD PRO COLOR for some time now. Is this straight out of the cam or has it been slightly graded after?
Great stuff Brandon! Do you typically use a PP in many or most shooting scenario's? Is the EOSHD one you need to upload to your camera's? Certainly not in my 6300/6500 models.
Hey Brandon, thanks for your great review. I was considering getting a Laowa but couldnt decide between the 12mm and the 15mm. I like to shoot landscape and travels but I'm afraid the 12mm might be a bit too wide. What do you suggest?
Nice video and covering a wide (no pun intended) range of subjects, situations and lighting scenarios. Definitely makes me want to research this lens a bit further.
I have the laowa 12mm canon mount it run very well on my fs7 and a7rii. with speedboster you need to setup backfocus of adapter to have infinit focus. On fs7 it can be 12mm with speedboster or 18mm with standard metabones. the zéro D is very cool but if you film face you have to center it if you don't want déformation. other thing, it is like macro lense because minimum focus is 20 cm.
I so want to buy this lens for my Sony a7iii... BUT I am so afraid f not having autofocus! Ad I get older, my eyes get worse. Plus, I usually work alone and I need to be able to trust my films are in focus. Do you have any advice? Could I expect the lens to be wide enough that the focal point won't matter much? I can't afford to own too many lenses, but I LOVE wide angle! Is this the one?
which one you like more the Iowa 12mm 2.8 or this one? I just a big fan of wide angles and loving the zero d! currently own a rokinon 12mm 2.8 and 14mm 3.1!
Got the Laowa 7.5mm for MFT and absolutely love it! Gets the same crop equivalent for 35mm. Only prob is that the GH5 isn't fantastic in low light even at f2
Looks like a great wide angle lens ,purchasing the a6500 and i sure like that lens , sure love they way you video Brandon .. i'm trying to follow your moving foot steps ..
Hey man awesome video ... im a newbie ... how do you keep focus sharp on a gimbal without making the camera move if you have to manually focus ? Sorry for the newbie ?
Looking at their website and seeing your quick review this lens shows great promise so far. Would like to see further review for more good looking independent results.
B&H now has it for $850 -- that's what brought me here. Great example, by the way, since I'm a real estate photographer, and potentially videographer. It looks like a great result but pretty pricey for a fully manual lens!
Zero destortion you mean barel etc? Because normaly distortion like big noses comes just by getting closer to the subject, and with wide lenses you tend to be closer to your subject. But maybe they can have some distortion on the lens (pincushion?) to minimize this.
Been contemplating back and fourth between the 7.5 laowa f/2 for m43 and the voigtlander 10.5 f/0.95. Going to be shooting wedding receptions and need something that'll stay in focus with the crane in low light situations. Not sure I want to buy though because I know the GH5 doesn't shoot great on auto iso like the Sony a7sII. The shot at 1:00 does come out nice though.
Stunning image quality... thanks for posting this... I need this lens. :) BTW: I would also recommend the Sigma ART 24-35mm f2 lens (via an MC-11 adapter) for your A7SII... it's a superb lens with fantastic sharpness/bokeh/focal length.
I bought this lens with the Nikon Z6 Filmmaker’s Kit for the exceptional purpose of shooting the classic “asides” found in British Restoration comedies to set aside the character from the other characters and action in the play... but I am still waiting for ProRes RAW to do my serious shooting.
Thanks, Brandon. But distortion on edges seems terrible. Or is it "Stylistic choice?" And maybe this lenses is not for selfies. Because face and shoulders looks slightly disproportional. But "MathcBox" effect of living room panorama etc looks interesting. Human figures looks like a toys. May be useful for some psychological influence. Thank you. PS a7 really shoot in the dark. Awesome.
Brandon, your channel is very informative and inspiring to be honest, I'm so glad I found this. I have a problem with the Sony alpha 6500, I can't seem to get good quality video at night, Low Light-ish! No matter how much I opened a picture or play with the ISO I still get a very grainy shot in 4K and HD can you recommend some setting?
But I have 1.8 and 2.0 still get clean night shots. And I see a lot online that do get it. I don't know what a good setting is, and forget about slog I can't get anything there all grainy like an old phone camera!
Brooska test with standard profile and lowest ISO. If you look at the wedding video on my channel at the end all the indoor shots on the dancefloor are in standard picture profile, images were clean in 1080p 60fps
This lens keeps being delayed and no updates as of extact timing or prices has been released yet... i anticipated purchasing this lens once it comes out, but am now considering the Irix 15 f2.4 instead. The Irix is also zero-D, has electronic comunication with body which can be translated via the mc-11 adapter (laowa has no electronic comunication) and the price of the Irix is most likely to be way lower...
Great looking lens! This one you plan on adding to your lineup? If so, can you toss an affiliate link once it's released? I'm in the market for this focal length and would love to support you/your content when I do buy a lens!
APS-C sensor is smaller, how does a full-frame lens that is made for a bigger sensor, crop anything? You might get other distortions, since it's not optimized for aps-c but no cropping or vignetting.
Oh really? That is strange. The image size of the sensor is bigger at Full Frame, so the full frame lens should be optimized for a bigger picture and not a smaller one (which is basically the definiton of cropping). So how comes it has such a strong crop factor on APS-C. Are you sure?
crop factor in this manner basically means the photo is a lil bit zoomed in. So full frame lenses on aps-c sensors will not get the true focal length. ex: 15mm full frame on a aps-c would get a a 23mm equivalent. Its like putting a big picture inside a smaller frame. U gotta crop those edges outside the frame coz it cant fit the frame. hence, crop factor.
It may not matter much to you but you can add an affiliate link. you influence a lot of people and it would be cool to see you get some credit for your efforts.
can this go with my sony a5100? also can anyone recommend me some low budget but decent e-mount lenses ? (I make travel vlogs & diaries so I would totally appreciate if you could take some time to check em out 💖)
So I saw your one macro shot in there at 1:43 but it was quick. How is this for macro? Similar at all to the Laowa 15mm f4 macro? Would like to see more shots with this at it's closest focus.
Great video. I find purchasing wide angle lens' to be difficult and pretty confusing. How well do you think this lens would work with a Sony A6000?
Beautiful video. As a macro guy I love the shot going deeper down the plant.
That's awesome to see some new lens manufactures getting into the game and doing things that the big brands aren't.
Brandon Li's gimbal movements > coffee for waking me up right now

back in the day lol
Nice Brandon, I've been thinking about using the EOSHD PRO COLOR for some time now. Is this straight out of the cam or has it been slightly graded after?
slight grading on some shots
Are you using version 1 or 2?
Brandon Li are you using cine 4 (a6300) or cine 2 (a7) version? Of the picture profile?
Hello Brandon, does the Lawoa 15mm work well with the Catalyst Software?
Great stuff Brandon! Do you typically use a PP in many or most shooting scenario's? Is the EOSHD one you need to upload to your camera's? Certainly not in my 6300/6500 models.
Hey Brandon, thanks for your great review. I was considering getting a Laowa but couldnt decide between the 12mm and the 15mm. I like to shoot landscape and travels but I'm afraid the 12mm might be a bit too wide. What do you suggest?

This is the dream lens for any a7 user
Excellent! I got my self a Lawoa 7.5 for micro four thirds, which, apart from bokeh, should give similar results. Still on the mail!
Very nice video. You're making this lens seem like a real winner just through footage.
The Emo Emu anything he touches looks amazing - makes it hard to judge hahaha
Nice review Brandom, and a sweet looking backyard too.
my mom's place

You have to use the focus zoom magnification function to check your focus. I use it every time. Yes still matters even with a wide lens.
I like the closeup shot, interesting lens..
Great undistorted shots! Focal zone: wide? AFC?
which one you like more the Iowa 12mm 2.8 or this one? I just a big fan of wide angles and loving the zero d! currently own a rokinon 12mm 2.8 and 14mm 3.1!

Thanks for this video! Beautiful shots!
It looks pretty nice,
Sounde like a good deal for Vlogging at least. I would love to be able to mix the wide angle with a nice focus/blur contrast.
Brandon Li, which Laowa lens do you like better, 15mm F2 or the 12mm F2.8?
Found the answer in the comments below.. "This one". Thx, it helps.
Looks awesome! I only wonder how much it will cost..
I love the lens. Super for Wide Shots, Landscape ...
Or for Macro
Oh my god!!! This is going to be the best vlogging lens ever.
Looks like a great wide angle lens ,purchasing the a6500 and i sure like that lens , sure love they way you video Brandon .. i'm trying to follow your moving foot steps ..
Love the look of this lens. It looks great for those indoor shots. 👍

This lens looks incredible! :D
I have the Lumix G7 and still saving for zhiyun crane gimbal.. hopefully I can afford and buy it before my vacation on september.
It looks amazing!!! :) How much does it weight? Can you show it how it looks on the A7sII?
Whoa this is awesome! I've always been a fan of shooting wide with the Rokinon 12mm but this takes it to another level!
This is so much better than the rokinon
Brandon Why is it better than the rokinon Brandon?
Because you can use it on an A7S for ultra wide?
I know you shot this on the A7 body, will it be as good on the A6300/A6500 ?
Widest I think I've seen was the 18-35mm f1.8 from Sigma, but that's for APS-C. This 15mm looks really nice!
Hexus 12mm f1.4 panasonic MFT
B&H now has it for $850 -- that's what brought me here. Great example, by the way, since I'm a real estate photographer, and potentially videographer. It looks like a great result but pretty pricey for a fully manual lens!
Can Sony a6000 record well in low light using 50mm f1.8?
I use the Carl Zeiss Loxia 21mm now, but i'm still waiting for this one...It's superb lens for Stars
Zero destortion you mean barel etc? Because normaly distortion like big noses comes just by getting closer to the subject, and with wide lenses you tend to be closer to your subject. But maybe they can have some distortion on the lens (pincushion?) to minimize this.
I hope A-mount will be available!
cool one day I'm going to get a camera one day.... then watch all your videos again 🙋💪🤘
@ Patrick I hope you have one now

Amazing video bro
You inspire me to create more travel video
Thanks 🙏

Thanks, Brandon.

PS
a7 really shoot in the dark. Awesome.
can you make another video when its released and add the link to it? thatd be awesome
Brandon, your channel is very informative and inspiring to be honest, I'm so glad I found this.

Brooska get an f1.4 lens - this will sort you out on the 6500 ;)
But I have 1.8 and 2.0 still get clean night shots. And I see a lot online that do get it. I don't know what a good setting is, and forget about slog I can't get anything there all grainy like an old phone camera!

Irix looks great! Heavier than laowa though
Always look fwd to your content 👌
The isnt such lens(15mm) in the link you provided.. only a 12mm F2.8 and a 7.5mm
is everything you do super pretty?
OMG!!! shots are amazing!!!!!!
I was distracted by the house.. 😍
all wide angle lenses should be like this! It's so much more realistic.
it looks great!
That looks good. I love your videos 👍🏼
Will you be in NYC anytime or Madrid in Sept?! Would love to shoot with you. Tell a story.
damn thats a nice combo right there! need to upgrade so baddddd
Does the lens support auto focus?
Great looking lens! This one you plan on adding to your lineup? If so, can you toss an affiliate link once it's released? I'm in the market for this focal length and would love to support you/your content when I do buy a lens!
Thanks I will be buying it and I'll post a link
Thanks for more great info.
Does this lens have auto focus?
It's out now ! ! looks like a good tool to have :)
Thanks for letting me know! I just updated the description.
Brandon Li no problem, love your videos man !! Getting my a6500 tomorrow !!
That's pretty amazing...
@brandon li, what is autofocus like ?
Can I buy your pre-release?
Looks dope!
I hope there would be a good lens like this for Canon SLRs
by using this lens at so wide aperture and 0 distortions we can fake anamorphic style? just adding the black bars
Man, I love those tight shots of you. Looks great with the f2 🙌
surprisingly it doesn't have the Busta Rhymes look
Will this work with a6500??
ofcourse. its the same mount. however, you will have that crop factor since this lens is for the full frame mounts (FE-mount). not the aps-c (E-mount)
APS-C sensor is smaller, how does a full-frame lens that is made for a bigger sensor, crop anything? You might get other distortions, since it's not optimized for aps-c but no cropping or vignetting.
full frames lenses on aps-c sensors have a crop factor of 1.5x i think, so this would be something like a 22/23mm on an a6500

thanks for the great review!
Does it have auto-focus or what is the advantage over the Rokinon 12mm F2?
It's a full-frame lens. Therefore you'll get a wider field of view and better low-light performance.
love your videos!
Great videos and samples! Any samples of stills? Thanks! :)
Hey Brandon, can you do a video on your zhiyun crane settings?
ruclips.net/video/TBzOc-8_nhk/видео.html
so amazing
is it applicable on apsc ?
That's nice
what's the minimal focusing distance on that?
macro
It may not matter much to you but you can add an affiliate link. you influence a lot of people and it would be cool to see you get some credit for your efforts.
Lens isn't released yet
Nice lens auto? I think so you need to eat a Big Mac haha we all need more info!! JoP
can this go with my sony a5100? also can anyone recommend me some low budget but decent e-mount lenses ? (I make travel vlogs & diaries so I would totally appreciate if you could take some time to check em out 💖)
all my lenses: ruclips.net/video/H7m9rpp-dYw/видео.html
