The bartender at Dirty Frank's made me cry on my birthday several years ago because she opened a bottle of beer for me, only for me to later realize I had no cash on me. It only deepened my love for this place.
In the hood there's Cozy's Lounge, at 51st Haverford Ave, where they served doubles for singles standard. All the liquor bottles are half gallons. Run downed, holes in the cushions. A true dive where you get pickled for cheap! ***Fun fact, the drinks are often triples, based on the bartender.
Dirty Franks was the first bar I got into when I was 16, with no fake ID - they didn't card at the time I guess (the drinking age at the time was 21). Ironically after I turned 21 I started to get carded a lot. On my 18th birthday the staff kept the bar open just for me after they closed at 2 AM and served me for free till about 5 AM!
I spent a lot of time at both Dirty Franks and the Pine Street Beverage Room in the early seventies. There was a real dive bar at 10th and Spruce across the street from the Athens Restaurant. It’s very upscale these days.
I met friends for drinks one summer day at Dirty Franks after work. We were going to the Phillies game and it started to downpour outside. The sewers backed up and then so did the toilets. It did that every time there was a deluge.
Wherever I go, I do what I got to do, then do family stuff n shopping, then we hit the bars, I got to go bar hopping, no two ways about it, got to go dance...

I love all music hip-hop being my favorite but I go to dive bars to listen to rock/punk/metal one day I walked into McGlincheys and they were playing reggae so I spent 15$ on the jukebox app and played Bad Religion, Black Flag, suicidal Tendencies, Slipknot and a slew of others but I didn’t get a chance to rock out to the music that I spent my hard earned money on because the bartender turned it down and said she dnt like that music then turned the volume back up when Eazy -E came on..I was totally confused and pissed that I spent $15 on music that I didn’t get a chance to enjoy
I love McNally’s ! Great northeast dive. And yeah tattooed moms is def not a dive .. Vegan cheesesteaks 😂😂👎🏼 a dive is definitely where an older lady bartends at 10am and all the regulars in the neighborhood come to see her (def all have drinking problems) 💯 loved this video
These are all "tourist-friendly". There are about 5,000 other dives around the city that I would NOT recommend. It's Philly, people get stabbed or worse.
I don’t know what voice is more annoying the monotoned alligator or this Siri wanna be. Overall disappointed smegys wasn’t included. NORTHEAST PHILLY DIVE BARS MATTER
Morrell Tavern, good crowd, good drinks, good music, good games, good bartenders. A Northeast philly histeric spot since 1958.

Also, RIP..the infamous, Papa Doc's bar. Huge cheap drinks. Where cops get drunk and start fights. 😅 There out of business!
You ain’t lying
@@inquizative44 when I was little my mom and dad would drive by the papa docs bar on 52nd street headed towards wynnefield
My college years were spent walking from McGlincheys to Dirty Franks and back again. Thanks for sharing.
Sounds like grade A college years
Same here. Does McGlinchey's still sell hit dogs? I swear they were twenty-five cents
@@JAHinHK I don’t know, I was always getting the cheap pitchers of beer 🍺
I always drink at Oscars when I visit Philly. It’s just a real place, unpretentious people and good bar food. The wait staff has always been cool.
They used to be dive bars now they're all hipster yuppie hangouts 😢

Dirty Franks rightfully earns the number one spot.

Ray's Happy Birthday used to be a speak easy. In the 80"s, we would go there after the clubs and buy take out beer.

Yeah you missed Jack’s Famous bar on Allegheny ave near the K&A. That is the ultimate dive bar.

But the question remains is McNallys better than Smegys
@@phillyhistoryfacts5757 McNally's is much better than both smegys
@@Trust_Me I think we need a bar league softball game to solve this dilemma
@@phillyhistoryfacts5757 you have to remember, there are two McNally's... 1 in Fox Chase and one in Mayfair
@@Trust_Me Are they the same owner? The one in Fox Chase closed :( I heard the people that own Northeast Sandwich Company might take it over
Annoyed smegys didn’t make the list but appreciate this list for future visits around the city
The one on Torresdale Avenue or the one on Cottman Avenue?
pop pop’s in Roxborough should be here … lets not talk about Peck Millers tho 🤣🤣
Chuck's alibi
El Bar??
It was considered but it's too hipstery these days

Very true.
I did love your video.....
Your term "triggered" ...It's so sad that people are so sensitive that this will annoy them
You forgot about Charlie B's
I need to do this list over again. A lot of these bars are trash touristy bars.
💗💗
Good list but jive ass computer generated narration gets this a thumbs down.
boooo I'm just trying to prepare everyone for our future lives with robots
