Soccer Mommy: Tiny Desk (Home) Concert

- The Tiny Desk is working from home for the foreseeable future. Introducing NPR Music's Tiny Desk (Home) Concerts, bringing you performances from across the country and the world. It's the same spirit - stripped-down sets, intimate setting - just a different space.
March 24, 2020 | Bob Boilen -- On Monday March 30, Sophie Allison, aka Soccer Mommy, was to perform a long awaited Tiny Desk concert at my desk. Now the world has changed, and with the coronavirus keeping us at a distance, we're taking a break from filming Tiny Desks at the office for a while.
Sophie wanted to share her music and her thoughts with you. So we're kicking off our Tiny Desk (Home) Concerts series with Soccer Mommy from her home in Nashville.

Even after this quarantine blows over, we should keep these self made bedroom performances as a recurring thing. Something so sweet about seeing musicians playing in PJs in their room
I think it would feel...forced? This is organic. This is life finding a way.

This type of tiny desk is really inspiring in a way especially for amateur musicians like me, it speaks volumes just seeing her in the bedroom playing songs on a acoustic, resonates with me a lot at least

One of the best things about tiny desk is the authenticity of the music, what could be more authentic then music played from home? No perfect place, no artifice, just all the highs and lows and all the in betweens. I thoroughly enjoyed Sophie, showing the tune up in between songs is SO REAL!

I heard her on a local radio station and I thought she was an artist from the 90’s
One could make that same mistake just by looking at this video! Pigtails and facial piercings and dark makeup colors and black fingernails and dark t-shirt and dark wrist-wear and angsty alt-rock ballads via an acoustic guitar? All this needs is for her to either be wearing a plaid flannel overshirt or have one tied to her waist by the sleeves and for her to be onstage at the local hole-in-the-wall coffee shop's open mic night where a quasi-disguised Kurt Cobain is in attendance because he'd rather see what's going on in the local scene, man!
She definitely has that Juliana Hatfield, Liz Phair vibe going there.

This feels weird. Seeing this in 2022 brings me back to the first quarantine, in 2020. A sense of nostalgia and also of innocence, not knowing what the next years with covid were going to be like

Just love! It is great to see someone so vocally unique and with such a great understanding of her own voice such that she creates perfect lyrics and sings them so beautifully and with absolute impeccable timing. Really great.
soccer mommy randomly opened at a paramore concert i was at and she always sounds fantastic live it is impressive. they will be around for a long while

I can't stop returning to this set. It really does retain the intimate feeling of tiny desk, and the first three songs on the album are so powerful in succession

I graduate AIT for the Army at fort leonard wood in missouri this thursday and I was gonna go see her in St. Louis where she was supposed to play a concert on the 17th but thanks to COVID-19 I can no longer do that. I'm glad she was still able to perform on here! Hopefully once this stuff blows over I'll get to see her in concert some time
