Jacob Rankin 4-7-1978

On 4/7/1978 the IRA murdered Jacob Rankin, 37. Married father of 3; 12 years old and under. Full time RUCR (Reserve policeman) shot from a car while walking down the path from Castlederg Station to go to a shop during break.
A green Humber Sceptre car used had been stolen from local farmer and was found abandoned at the border just yards inside the border in Northern Ireland.
Resident Spokesman: "It is an open secret that these people use Donegal as a base to organise murder raids into Northern Ireland."
