Oh man, this is amazing. I also have a Sprinter 144” and have been struggling with the bed frame design. Do you have an actual design with dimensions that you’re willing to share?
This is looking great! If i had more money allocated to my van build, the extruded aluminum would have been my choice to build with. Perhaps if I do a remodel later, this is what I could do. I too have thought about a hidden shower setup, near the bed area somewhere. I am still in the planning stages myself but the build has commenced. I will be following your build. Thanks!
A lot of people will tell you if they did it again they'd build the necessities and then add on as they travel. Never know what you might need to add or even remove
Wonder how it worked out attaching 80/20 to the van frame without a thermal break? I'm assuming that in winter, the bed frame is the same temperature as the van exterior.
dude love the setup!!! do you have the link for the anchor fasteners and bolts you used on 4:55. plus what bit you used to make that hole.. gonna try to do this as well. you have inspired me!!! thanks again
Instead of the parts folding over. Maybe Just have 2 separate pieces. That lift and sit on top of each other. That way you can have upper wall storage. 👍👍
Hi this is a great design! Are there plans you could share? Also looking to modify and have the option to slide the other direction as well to allow for a view of the sky. In addition, want to be able to prop up the foot to make into a lounge facing out the back... any thoughts? Thanks
We are going to do this same concept, but were going to use wood. Can you let me know the total cost of bed project? Also, I looks like the front slats are pretty wide, Dow the mattress not dip at all? Thanks!
Man that 80/20 is so sweet. Definitely gunna use that on my next van. Great video. Those sliding bearings are cool, is that custom or can you just buy those? Thx again
After watching other videos of yours. Did you consider raising the bed a few inches to reveal more countertop when you slide it back? Your stuff looks great man!
Hey man.. nice work on the 80/20 sliding bed frame. I've been studying your old build. Very impressive. Have a couple of ? before I tackle the job. I have 2015 144 wheel base with all the windows. (12 pass van) I see you use about 6" riser to the rail. For me to accommodate the widow I have to go about 12" high to clear the rear seat headrest. Will that make any difference on the load integrity of the crossbeam? I'm thinking of installing legs for better support. Is that necessary u think? Thanks! Well done!
Do you have the bed schematics online anywhere to look at, I really love the idea of using 80/20 for a sliding bed in my van and yours is absolutely perfect
I’m glad to see people finding ways to live and thrive without spending every cent they make on rent or mortgage...save as much as they can living this way and THEN buy a house...don’t be burdened your whole life with a huge house payment. This is so smart. And having solar power too. Keep it up kids!
Absolutely. Don't be beholden by The Man. Or some stupid overpriced house. Save up every dime you can, wait until the market is near bottom, then buy several. Rent them. Buy more. Rent them. Let others work for you. Then you become The Man. Life goes full circle.
the problem with 80/20 is you have to tighten everything every so often wood on the other hand once everything is in place there is nothing more to do, down side is you can not adjust it you have remove it and is heaver
Looks good. Though I wonder how comfy those gaps will be with just a mattress. You might want to also add an extra expanse on the tips of the extension, as otherwise it will bite into the mattress when you try to slide it in. Well, that is what I would do. No judgement here. Looks and seems to be very savvy. Thanks for sharing. Good adaptation on the change when it was too close to the wall.
What is the difference between 80/20 or 20/20, I have seen many types, I am new to that and wanted to build my own set up on my truck. Did you find everything you need to build on Amazon?
How much weight will it hold? The weight of the mattress like an 8 to 10 -inch latex, plus 2x 250-pound = 500 pounds of human doesn't Aluminium bend or warp easier than most other Metal? Really want to know to convert Van and be able to remove when not travelling.

This would definitely be possible to design into the system! With my van, however, there are some constraints that prevent this design. The biggest one being the upper cabinets. More details coming in the follow up video!
@@seven_o_savage but can you fold your mattress over if you have upper cabinets? im right at this point too. also would be interested on how much this construction costs.
Seven O'Savage You could cut the 2 prices of mattresses at a 45deg overlap so that the section sliding in slides underneath the section in the back. C class motorhomes have that system for the above cab bunk. Because your van is narrower at the top, flipping the mattress may cause the corners to catch the sides. Did you say you had cabinets above?
Or... make a three piece bed that has two "folds" in it. And, take your allen wrenches with you and whatever small hand tools you assembled this with. At least on your first few outings. One other thing to look out for - sometimes when you tighten a bolt, it will feel like it is tight. In fact, unless it is the right length, it may have bottomed out in the channel before getting truly tight. It's easy to do and the difference between the correct length bolt and one that's too long it usually only 1/8". YMMV.

Why not have the back part of the bed slide up vertically to make it a couch when collapsed ?
There's a video from a couple years ago where a young girl did one like that in 80/20. That's how I first became interested in using it in my build.
Do you remember the length of the bolts used to attach the extrusions to the wall? Seems like they'd have to be at least 2"?

This frame will conduct heat or cold. You need a insulator between .
heavy mass vinyl spacer between the steel and the 80/20 should help with that.

That is one expensive bed frame
And too complicated. I built a collapsible bunker that equally enables total use of space when not in use within a few hrs using wood & hinges
