For anyone who is not in the US and gets a tad confused by this. The T-Slot Aluminium extrusions are not 8020 but look more like 4040 in dimensions. 80/20 is just a very popular brand name in the US for a company that supplies T-Slot Aluminium extrusion based kits along with extrusions and related hardware

Love it, been sitting on this exact bed for a couple months. Was building a 2019 350HD and realized it was too much van for me, sold it for a profit and am restarting with a 2013 E350 with a high top. Glad you got this video up, thanks for sharing

I built one with an old windscreen wiper motor, a rod, 2 skateboard ballbearings and some straps originally for strapping down loads on a car. Cost about $50.

My idea was to cut out the roof section of the van over the bed. Then weld some aluminum side to the cut out roof section to create a box for the bed to raised up into. Then you will have full height use of the van.

This is what I would want to do as well for the bed system. It would be nice to go up higher slightly more for a seating are underneath. Now Mr. Savage, I've got a new idea for you. Build a shower that combines hanging space up top and a fridge down below where there are two sections that slide out towards the front of the van and let's you shower. Then slide both back in. With this shower system along with this bed system you have the most efficient use of space in a van for sure!

Thanks to this video I finally found the best bedding option for me! I've been on the waitlist for this bed from Wilderness Vans for a while now and I got the good news last night that they are in stock. I paid up today and I can't wait to get this in my van (whenever my van gets delivered). I'm going to do the larger 80/20 bedframe also, hopefully, it's not too difficult attaching the motor & pully system to the new frame, looks pretty straight forward though. Thanks again!!

Yep, it’s super easy to attach the pulley system to the 80/20 just requires some precision on placing things like the mounts.
@@seven_o_savage No kidding, when I called to originally get the bed, the lady on the phone said " I guess there is a youtube video out there with this bed and our company name on the box, everyone has been hitting us up about it"! You definitely sold some bed's HAHA!
A prior comment referenced safety cut off switches to prevent the bed going up and possibly crushing and/or creating an asphyxiation situation. Such electrical interlocking is NOT enough on its own! You absolutely need positive mechanical stops of suitable strength that will stall the drive motor to prevent the bed from rising to a height that would do that. Limit switches, relays and/or contactors and anything electrical can fail - contacts weld themselves together, switches stick, etc. Not having positive mechanical stops would be similar to working under a car using just a jack. You don't do it - you always use a jack stand or some sort of mechanical blocking in case the jack fails. These stops could be designed so they can be held up and out of the way to raise the bed to full height for more storage, but they should then deploy when the bed is lowered. This would be similar to how the safety latches in a garage lift work.

Thanks again Seven for another great video. I was hoping you would have shown how you attached the tracks however. I looked at the maximum lift height you were able to achieve in your van compared that with other videos of the Revel’s Euroloft and even if you take in account you not having a mattress in this video, your bed lift doesn’t appear to travel as high as the one on the Winni.
I plan to purchase the Lippert system in build as well and since I am 6’ I will be using the mattress frame (those tensioned plywood slats in the OG frame allow for better body support) that comes with the unit and laterally configured it while extending the mattress length in the flare space however. Being 6’5” this will not work for you but I’m hoping this configuration will allow me to take a great advantage of the extra 26” a 170WB gives.
As for the price of the project 2000, I agree with all the comments here at $1900USD this is ridiculously overprice item. BTW- I see lots of places online advertising a replacement lift motor, I wonder if that is a clue that the motor in not robust enough? Even if you take in account the engineering/design work, this item should not be more then $1k. I hope someone in the van build community comes up with a DYI design solution. I am sure with the access of parts available in the 80/20 catalog, IKEA slats n’ frame, seat belt belting material and a off the self motor one can build it for 1/3 the price. With the high margins the manufacture has built into the pricing of this device it will be knocked off by a made in China solutions soon enough!
Great videos Mr. O Savage! I am doing my first van build on a 2021 2500 170wb and really like the layout you have put together. I will be carrying mountain bikes or dirt bikes so this bed system is ideal much like the revel. I am using a lot of your videos on the build (thank you). Seems like this bed it's only available to OEM manufacturers. Would you be willing to share your sketch-up files ;-)? Keep up the great work! We have a full metal fabrication/powder coating facility at your disposal if you fancy doing a build in NC, 'Savage Vans' has a ring to it!

Really good video. Terrific working through the options and then modifying it. I used to look at that extruded aluminum stuff and shake my head at how much it costs and then I make it out of wood, (Once I even welded). $3000? And then all that work? The work can be fun. I think if I needed this (and it's a really smart solution- it's essentially simple (nothing to bind ) with the widest range (height) of solutions). If I needed this I think I'd just go with ropes and pulleys and a way to tie it off (stabilize it at the sides) against movement. But then I'm a sailor (and former physics teacher) so I like pulleys and things that move (rock me to sleep).
I'd always get a Waterproof bed cover. Even at home. They're just like normal stuff, soft cotton, but they won't let any spills (or blown in rain) get into the mattress. Also a reason for venting on the bottom of a mattress is over time body perspiration can collect in a mattress work its way to the impermeable surface at the bottom and begin growing mold. Just seems obvious to make the top of the mattress (which can't be run through the laundry) waterproof.
i totally don't understand the reason behind a waterproof bed cover? your roof is not leaking and during the day it's up, so how can you spill something on your bed? And of course, I hope your cover is breathable, otherwise, your moisture accumulates at the top instead of the bottom!
Absolutely amazing video that I was thinking of doing the same thing in my van. These guys are the only ones that sell the system. The Euroloft loft bed is only available to manufacturers, this seems to be an identical product.

I went TWICE to the 5 day Camping and Caravan Exhibition last week and 80% (4 of the 5 halls) was about showing off new models of Campers, Caravans and Tents. In the remaining hall were companies showing off their batteries, solar panels, TV dishes, aircos and extractors and the company that was representing Lippert (the LCI Autoloft system, Tesa self-balancing system and Telair) were only interested in selling to Dealers, who would by 5 or 10 items at a time! So there are NO dealers here in NL that can help me buy a single LCI bed-lift system, just as you have installed!

Long time watcher, first time commenter. I was on the fence about doing my own build before watching these videos, but now I'm certain I'm paying someone else to do it. I think it was the floor nightmare that broke my spirit - and I wasn't even there. Bravo.

Farm out what you can't, do what you can... Sometimes just paying a boomer to come show you how it the way to go.. Go to Home Depot talk to one if the dudes, or go to their Sunday free work shops and ask that guy how to find someone..
That way your not paying FULL ON 4x RETAIL for something that can be done for a nickel

@@seven_o_savage oh i wouldnt build it any other way from yours. Your build is a new benchmark. I spent 30 years working on airplanes and ships for the navy. Your level of craftsmanship and detail is off the charts for van conversions. Have you thought about opening your own van conversion company? Because youre build is amazing work.

I think one could easily self engineer the system. It is basically a pass-through right angle motor with a single shaft. I mean, you practically rebuilt this thing. This could have been built for much cheaper. Thoughts?

Single garage up and over door motor second hand £50, seat belt webbing from scrap breakers 4 casters and c Chanel, square section sly from scrap yard for frame, should be able to do it for less than £200

Also I noticed the European version of this has a rotation counter that doesn't exist on this one -- the counter can be tweeked as a high and low stop. Have you seen the European model? thanks again!
Love your set up!!! So much so that I am going with nearly the exact same in my new 2022 4x4 Sprinter 144. My rig is shorter than yours so I will have to loose some of the stuff you have on your van but the bed and bathroom are a must for me too. Both of our taste seem to be nearly Identical. How much time have you put in total on your build this point? How much time will you have in it for the finish product? How much money have you had to spend up to this video? What is your estimate for the total cost of your build? I absolutely love your video's and appreciate that you share the products you have researched. This will save me time because I am using everything you recommend. You rock, and thank you!!!

Maybe put some fold down steps mounted to the 8020 at the corner of the bathroom, to get into the bed when it's in mid position.
Great videos! Building end of this year or early next year. Curious if you can adjust the bed from left to right to level the bed if parked on the crown of a road or some uneven surface?
For getting up on the bed when in the book position, did you ever think about a drawer, with feet that ride 1/4" from the floor, with an inset lid. You could pull up the lid and the drawer is still a drawer for storage, otherwise its a step. Interested to see if you ever tried or thought of this.

Its a great video, really nicely presented. I've got just two questions: 1. Why that extra length on one side (creating a bump where you climb into the bed) - could you make it flush and fit an extra shelf unit or something thin? 2. Why won't it go higher - is it a lack of webbing strap, or the narrowing width of the van? Thankx.
If you look carefully you can see that the width is smaller due to the inward curvature of the wall (which is less on a promaster)
First, a safety warning. Make this fused, have a secondary cut out, and a safety cut out at the roof for if people are in the bed. Say a wooden bar across the top at the roof, with a switch on either end. Bed at full up doesn't hit it so no cut out, if there's a person in the bed they hit the bar and at least one of the switches disconnects. In fact make it 2 or 3 bars, or a large rectangular panel with 4 or more switches. You don't want this going up in the middle of the night and crushing you to asphyxiation before you can find the off switch. Winch type systems are extremely strong, you want a lot of extra safety when people are around them, it doesn't take that much force to make it where you can't breathe.

That's like my garage door. If you touch it it turns off. That's a safety design. I am really glad you mentioned this because I had not thought of it while I was watching.
The bed platform hit the side tapered side walls which is why it can't go higher than the top position shown. That still allow plenty of space for a human so I don't see how the wooden bar is necessary.
Why not put safety lock on the belts so it raises all the way up?

It looks like "Item" extruded aluminum. Item brand is pretty heavy, but strong and versatile. It is used alot in industry to build supports and surrounds. It is pricey, only reason I even know about it is that a found a trove of it at a surplus store years ago.
Quick question, is there a slit in one the van mounting plates for the webbing and then compression fit with the other bracket? Is it possible to snap a photo of the make and model of the right-angle motor assembly they use? Thanks again for the videos! Wow, and you also let the webbing just slide over the 80/20 frame with no pulley/bearing surface. Very cool.
I would also like to buy all the components without the expensive bed section. I'm even thinking about just making a hand crank system.
