I worked with Van Murphy Bed to outfit my 2023 Ford Transit High Roof Extended van last summer after seeing Ted's van at one of my local MTB trails. My wife and I have taken a couple trips with our MTBs out west and also to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I have experimented with carrying my 950cc KTM Adventure Bike under the beds and although we have not loaded it out yet, we intend on also putting my wife's Honda CRF250L inside and still be able to fold down the beds to sleep while traveling. With the MTBs, we can keep the bikes inside the van when travelling and sleeping. As soon as we wake up in the morning we fold the beds up with the bedding inside them and we have access to the full length of our van. Our original floor plan had a more traditional bike garage/bed area permanently mounted in the back of the van and I am so glad that we saw this layout before our van was delivered. We can now have our entire van area when traveling, or for hauling furniture or construction materials when not on trips, adds a ton of versatility.
Thanks for that vote of confidence Brian, it’s been a pleasure working with you and Barb. Looking forward to many more adventures in the Van Murphy bed vans!
I was just schematically figuring this out in my head. I opened up RUclips and behold...this. Thanks!
I'm glad you found it, what are your thoughts anything we can do better besides the video of Course
Best idea in a long time! This is THE solution. Great job!
Thanks for the vote of confidence, we feel like it's gonna be a game changer in the Van industry
Glad you like it!
Wow. A locking hinge. Crazy.
One thing that keeps me from van life is the need to have a workspace with a large monitor and ergonomic chair. Using one of the chairs in the cab and a small flip up table and laptop doesn't do it for the work I do. I've seen van builds with dedicated desk areas, big monitors and a decent chair, but they also take up a lot of space. It would be cool to see a build like this where, when the bed is flipped up, it turns into a dedicated desk somehow with a mounted widescreen monitor and area for keyboard and mouse. Maybe with a decent chair mechanism on the other half. Work by day, sleep by night, instead of trying to have both dedicated areas taking up room in the van at the same time.
I like the way you're thinking! what about when the bed folded up a table folded out from the backside and the monitor was mounted to the bottom of the deck pad. The nice thing about the system is its versatility, and I know that that could be done on the underside of one of the beds. I just wonder if the other bed would work as a good seat for you depending on the height
The chair is the challenge… a second panel built with a large monitor ( possible curved) and a fold down desk/keyboard segment would take up 4-6” using a secondary cantilever… for the chair a drop in pedestal may be an answer, or a heavy laguna style swivel could be an option.. the seat then becomes the last design hurdle. Modified camp chair that can fold away… 🤷♂️
just adjust the hight so one is the table and the other one is de chair, and place the matrasses any way that feels right and/or the necessary ergonomics on the one that is the chair. the computer can stay under and the screen(s) can fold down from the ceiling, or you can just place them up there and down again when you want make the whole bed, screens aren’t that heavy i think 🙏
I'm thinking of a fold up desk that's mounted underneath one side of the Murphy bed. So put the Murphy bed down on one side leave the other side up and then fold that desk down from that. Should work. Haven't tried it yet but in theory it looks good

I have this in my sprinter long time, I loved!
What part did you have on your Sprinter that you like?
I think this would be perfect in a wheelchair accessible van camper build. I hope to one day be able to do that.
That's always been my favorite fart for the system it's gonna make a lot of people able to travel with their spouse easily, good call
Best bed, etc. solution I've seen.
Thanks for the comment, from all of my studies in the last three years of the beds available out there I tend to agree. The system is simple, sturdy, and versatile. I hope to help a lot of people with the system
Awesome system. Plenty of market potential ... Cheers
Thank you!
Thank you for this good video
Glad you liked it!
I have 3 large dogs (all over a 100lbs each). This floor plan is perfect!
That’s true it should be perfect for that. I’m assuming all the dogs get to sleep up there which would be happening in my van
I had plans to DIY a similar system for a Transit Trail buildout, though Ford couldn't deliver in 2023 with a 2022 order. I was inspired by the German twin bed layout. Nice to see a design in the US is engineered and made available. Though I wanted a few differences. I wanted it to work in a
I love to see what you're thinking about on paper can you shoot me an email with the drawing, I think it'll work perfectly for what you're describing so far. Good luck on the transit I think that's the right vehicle to be using these days. I actually have one ordered too
I love the versatility.
It would be fun to use bottom bunks as sofas and host a party.
Good space for cooking and desk as is, or you could install this system in a shorter van and have bunks, desk, and sofa in the back!
Thanks,
Thanks like all your ideas. Nice thing is lousy to be versatile and creative.
Really cool design.
Thanks it works cool too
Simple I love this van!
This van happens to be for sale right now if you're interested, it is one of the most versatile vans we've ever seen designed please feel free to contact us if you're interested in any information
Awesome stuff. I was planning to toss out the mattress and buy a latex one, but you did it right. Where is the system made and where are the parts sourced from?
Thank you! This system is made and assembled in Michigan.
Great video and super helpful! Where did you buy the molle nets? I like having some hanging storage up off the floor. Thanks in advance for your response, much appreciated!
Thanks for watching the video, those storage sheds I think we're just off of Amazon. But I do like using the L track hooks from Macs
Does this work for a ambulance box ?
I would only need a single wall bed.
Amazing innovation. Nice video. Excited to our tour video we did together Ted live on RUclips soon ;) Congrats!
Thank you! Can’t wait to see it!
I have the adventure wagon L-track wall and floor, and this will be a perfect solution for the lower bunk for my kids. Is it compatible with L-track?
our system will work fine with the Adventure wagon LT system. It’s a independent stud that goes in front of the wall that allows you to have four independent bunkbeds or two queen size beds. Everything is adjustable up and down. What area are you contacting us from. Have you worked with a professional Van builder in your area?
Can we see the tracks up close..what do u use floor and ceiling tracks for..can we get a tour of rest of van to see how the work in fir overall build
Hi and thanks for contacting me. What kind of van are you working on? Have you started anything else on the build part? My email is Ted@VanMurphyBed.com I’ll try to send you over a few pictures of things I think you might want to look at.
1. Can this be built based on a 144 body without adventurewagon kit?
2. In addition to the brackets on both sides, I noticed that some boxes are also needed at the bottom to support it. Will this affect the installation of the electrical system and water system?
3. Is there a dealer in the Los Angeles area that supports installation?
Yes, you can use it at a 1:44 without adventure wagon kit
Those boxes are just storing my electrical and my toolbox. So you don’t need anything underneath the bed it’s up to you.
Working on the right person in that market to represent us, let me know if you have any ideas.
I like how simple everything looks. How much is it?
Thanks for the comment. Yes, it is a simple system and leaves you so many options. Currently the system is about $4000 for the queen size bed portion. The bunkbeds are extra option along with the quick change system
Now add a drain in the middle and removable pan and a magmatic shower curtain and you have. 48 X 60 shower.
Great idea, I can show you how we do it and basically just what you said. Our system is designed out of Australia and it works great.
Hello felicitations nice kit, where can I buy your kit ? I am in Québec Canada thanks
We’re finding professional builders in that market currently. Have you worked with anybody in that area that you prefer?
So 13.5 minutes in, and I must’ve missed the answers to: 1. What is the weight capacity of each side of the bed? and 2. Is the kit available for purchase, or can you only get it from an outfitter? Thanks.
Okay, looked at your website and got the answer to #2. Still confused about maximum weight capacity, since your site says it’s 100 pounds per “deck”; or I’m misunderstanding something.
“Under each bed deck you can fasten a quick disconnect saddlebag system that will give you a ton of extra storage. Each deck can carry a 100 pounds and effortlessly open the with the use of gas struts. ”More Space””
There were two big dudes sitting on half of the bed. One of them looked to be 200 lbs or more, out of shape and breathing heavy. So two fatties could share that bed. How much do you weigh? 😬
😂 both were recovering from Covid so that’s where the out of breath part came from. We don’t have a firm weight rating yet but have had about 600lbs bouncing on one side with no issues.
I couldn’t sleep on 3” mattress with seams. Give me a Happy Jack system with a real mattress. No doubt this will be ideal for some. Peace - John
Have you tried sleeping on a 3” latex mattress? I have a few times and it’s surprisingly comfortable
You can use a thicker mattress, probably up to 8 inches, however it will be taller than the sides of the Murphy bed when in the opposition. We just want to be able to use a second bunkbed in it so we go with the latex because it's unbelievably soft and firm at the same time. Not to mention it's a healthy foam
Amazing concept....when/where is it available????
Should be ready to start distribution in 2 months
Hey, Rogue Engineer! You do camper vans? I literally stumbled onto this video.
I might be interested. Where are you all located?
Located in Michigan how about you?
When will you be adding pricing on these?
Contact ted@vanmurphybed.com for pricing.
The basic bed system is about $3500 add the bunkbed another thousand dollars
👍👍super💪
Thanks
Nice job!!!! Available on all 3 ram/ford/mb?
@@fredzuccarelli thanks! We are developing those now.
Can be built on Ford Transit Passenger Van?
We can do a transit van that I can access the ceiling, I don’t know if the passenger vans interior will allow me to install our stud system. We can talk just call.
Nice! But roll over couch are better. Because you have this plus a couch.
Interesting, do you have a picture?
Who makes the storage bag?
I don’t recall the name of the company, but this is designed for the back of a jeep, you should be able to find it. I think they’re only making it in black now too.
sorry it took so long, it's from right line Gear they do jeep stuff
Where do you evacuate your colon?
We have a dry flush that can be moved around the truck, I'm sure you realize how important that is
Cool
Thank you
Where can I buy the hardware? Thanks.
Sorry for getting back late, we should be launching in about two months
Hardware will be available for sale from our Michigan location in early spring
Is there a rough estimate for pricing?
Right in the $3500 area
Price is around $3500 for the base queen size double Murphy bed, add another thousand dollars for the second set.
Im sure theyd hold but having those bed panels interlock like an interlocking tote would probably make people feel better about them if not actually providing some structure. Lol
any plans for ford transit
Coming soon!
Just did a Ford transit with the system works great
Ford vans will be added very soon I heard
how much do one of these cost
$3500 for the basic to system Murphy bed
Love the idea but those mattress are too thin for me.
I understand, I’ve been in the Furniture business for over 30 years and I get it. So there are options , first thing is we use medium density 100% latex cushions. Don’t bottom out and you are very comfortable. Second thing is you can use up to a 6 inch mattress, it just doesn’t fold down into bed system it will protrude 8 inches above the deck, so what happens is you can’t use a bunkbed system above it. The main thing is it’s got options.
Can someone buy the bed system?
Bad system will be available in about 30 days for purchase. Feel free to contact us on any details. Sorry about the late response.
When engineer goes rouge?
😉
For a this price plus shipping and the install cost not many potential customers , it’s going to be a flap
We haven't settled firmly on the price yet however it seems to be going Price for similar systems as far as beds go
Great system but this is I was struggling to watch it.
Great comment but I was struggling to read this.
Yeah I understand but it's hard to get a lot of stuff in short video and we did it in one take
Crocks?
I'm out. 😂
Cheap and they want way to much money
Interesting comment, it’s less expensive than most bed systems on the market currently and more versatile strong than anything that’s been developed yet
Hard to find a system with four Murphy beds in one van
And still maintain 48 inches of open aisle space
Imagine masculinity so fragile you can't sleep near another man...
Not the masculinity do, it’s generally gas and snoring
