Hi Nicole and Edden…. I have enjoyed many many van builds on youtube and I just don’t get why people don’t use the bed lift technology… it’s such a space saver allowing for much more build possibilities. Your DREAM build is BY FAR the best all around build I have seen thus far. The finish project is amazing. Nicole’s homey touches make a HUGE difference… and the design is awesome. Keep up the great work guys!
Thanks so much for taking the time to write this! Appreciate it so much, and we agree completely that it's almost crazy to not put a bed lift 😅 Thanks!
Very helpful video! Thanks for this. To “square” the columns, I would attach the columns on one side top and bottom, and columns on the other side at top only, after carefully measuring (as you did). Assemble the drive assembly and the end rails, with rails at topmost position. When you lower the rails, the bottoms of the columns which are loose will be pulled into position. Put one screw in each column and then run it up and down to check for binding. When it’s all “smooth” put in all the rest of the screws.
thanks for this - I’m planning to install the happijac system in our van - but it looks really daunting, so really glad to see this tutorial. 👍🏼 👍🏼 👍🏼 👍🏼 👍🏼
I think the happy jack woulda been the only thing I left out in this build/layout simply because I would get annoyed not having a standing height in the mail area of the van… but the rest of the layout/design bathroom is probably the best I’ve seen.. and I’ve waited a lot of van tours!
Thanks a lot! I thought that too about the happijac, but then I was in my friends van with a similar layout and realized it's not a big deal at all. It's very much a sitting space and you don't ever really need to stand there, you only stand in the kitchen and bathroom

Dear Edden, I hope this message finds you well. I recently came across your incredible van conversion project and I must say, I am thoroughly impressed with the layout you have created. The attention to detail and the thoughtful design elements truly caught my eye. As someone who has been considering a van conversion for quite some time, I have been searching for the perfect layout that suits my needs, and yours seems to tick all the boxes. The way you have optimized the space and created a functional yet stylish interior is nothing short of remarkable. With that said, I was wondering if it would be possible for you to provide me with the measurements and possibly a blueprint of your layout. Having access to such information would be immensely helpful as I embark on my own van conversion journey. It would allow me to visualize the space and plan accordingly, ensuring that I can create a similar, well-designed interior. I understand that you have put a lot of time and effort into perfecting your van conversion, and I greatly respect your skills and expertise. I assure you that any information you could provide would be used solely for personal use and not for commercial purposes. I am simply an individual who appreciates your work and wishes to create a similar space for my own adventures. If you are able to share the measurements and blueprint, I would be extremely grateful. I understand if this is not possible due to proprietary reasons or other constraints, but I wanted to reach out and inquire nonetheless. Your work has inspired me, and I believe it would be a valuable resource in helping me bring my own van conversion dreams to life. Thank you for taking the time to read my message. I eagerly await your response and hope that we can connect further. Keep up the fantastic work! Warm regards, Zayden
Thanks so much for sharing this Edden. It will be extremely helpful when it is time for me to install my (planned) happijac one day soon. Love your work👊
Thanks for the tutorial. I was going to install a happijac but now im leaning towards a Murphy bed as it seems like the cost would not be within budget.
Yeah, it's really strange! Now that we've built a couple I feel like it's time to make a better video. Because it doesn't seem like they're planning on making one any time soon haha
Mounting the cross angle piece, you could also use a shim or flat washer to provide slightly more clearance if needed. (Using a longer bold too if needed).
This was such a vital tutorial.. thank you so much!! 🙏 I have to ask, though, how did you not pinch the cables on the left side or your small wooden door rails? But most importantly, how did the happijac structure hold if you only drilled onto the pinewood and it doesn't touch the floor? You didn't drill it into the van/metal itself right?
Happy it was helpful! Not sure exactly what you mean about pinching the cables? You shouldn't pinch anything as long as you're careful when screwing the rails in that none of the cables aren't stuck behind it. The structure is very sturdy, as they're mounted to 3/4" baltic birch plywood that is secured to the van frame in at least 3 axes each.
Hi Edden & Nicole, did you steam and flex the veneer around the corners of aluminum slats/beams and then adhere and clamp, or are they corner-cut? Thx. Troy @@nicoleandedden
Hey! The veneer is corner cut. We didn't have any experience with steaming and flexing, but that probably would have been the right way to do it! @@guiguencex7670
Thanks for the torturial. How does it go with the bed after some time? Happy with the quality and functionality? Since everything seems to be angeled perfectly, I wonder how it works, if you park somewhere in the beautiful outdoor without having a perfect flat parking spot? Any trouble, if the Van is parked with wheels positioned on differend heights? As well, the bed "hangs" basicely on the front and backwall, so all the weight while sleeping in the bed will be on these 2 walls, since the 4 bed profiles dont thouch the floor actually. Is this right? Greetings
No worries! No problems yet after a long time with the bed. And yes it works at any angle, because the system itself is squared and not affected by gravity in any way. So even at a steep angle it will move smoothly within it's tracks. The weight is on the 2 walls, correct. So it's important to secure those two walls as securely as possibly, to the chassis in both the floor, side walls, and roof.
No worries! You have to buy it through a dealer. A lot of campervan shops will be able to help you, but yes it's not so easy to buy! As stated in the video, the kit comes with everything except the actual bed frame itself. That you will need to build on your own. But the rest comes with the kit, just make sure you're getting the right height and width that will fit your project
How thick are the tracks on short side? In other words, how much bed length do you still lose if you mount bed frame direct to track as you did? (understand you would lose more if mounted the other way)

This would need me to cut down the drive shaft, from your experience doing this is there a limit to where the drive shaft pole can be cut down to? Cheers :)

Hey! Yeah for some reason these things are not easy to buy. So ridiculous! You need to find a dealer that sells them. I have a friend in the States who is a dealer, but in Spain you will need to find a dealer there that imports these. Sorry, I know it's frustrating, I don't know why they make it so difficult to buy 😅
Great videos! Thank you for the education. What led you to decide on this type of Lippert Happijack bed (chain type) and not the Lippert Smart Bed (With Straps) that seems to have a simpler and easier installation?
Thanks so much! The strap bed is much less stable, almost like hammock in my opinion. I wouldn't want it swaying and banging into the walls when down. Then again, I guess its a personal decision. I think it also has different weight limitations. But definitely haven't looked into it as much as I should have!
Thank you @@nicoleandedden for your response. My van (Sprinter 3500 EXT) is coming in the next couple months and wanted to finalize some layout decisions. Yes, absolutely! You can make the bed as long as you want technically, as the drive shaft length arrives very long and you can cut it down to your desired length. The main thing to consider is if you are ok with the headroom under the bed while the bed is up. For us it was about 5'7". I'm 6 foot and didn't mind it at all, as its anyways a sitting area. But some people might care more about it.
@@nicoleandedden That's amazing advice, we've been and looked at Ford Transit LWB vans today, thinking we will use this Happijac system. Thanks again for all your help.
What size happi jac did you order? 54", 61" and then height as well? I'm a happi jac authorized dealer, but we typically install for enclosed trailer. Just curious which one fit in this van. Also is this a Ford Transit-250
Hi Edden will you building any more vans, I loved your Oasis van build and my wife and I want to live full time in a van, and do you only build on Mercedes??
I assume you bought the 63" happijac system, or did the dealer allow you to custom size the width? Does it allow you to make it smaller than the 63"? Your bed is 56", so 63" is definitely overkill for you. I only saw a 42" and 63" option, when I went to buy, so I'm not really sure how to manage that because 63" wide is basically the absolute maximum width of my Ford Transit, so I don't think it would fit, but you somehow got yours to fit. Thanks. The video is great and mega helpful.
width-wise you can get a thinner one and have the frame be as wide as you want. The system doesn't come with the bed frame so you have control over how wide you actually make it, it doesn't matter if the happijac width is thinner!
I'm not sure. Their entire sales funnel is horrible, it's almost impossible to find information about anything, especially where to buy them. It's pretty ridiculous honestly lol @@KwonHo09
Great job. 1 question, can the width of the frame be wider than the bed? My bed is 60 inches, but I need the frame to be 72 (there will be 6 inch cross members sticking out each side
Yes, you can watch all the videos on our channel to get more inspo about the rest of the van! We also have a tour coming out very soon that goes over everything in detail :)
Do you just use wood screws to mount the frame? I’m mouthing the frame to 2x4 that are bolted into the van, but I feel like screws aren’t strong enough.
They are around $2500 USD. I'm not sure about international shipping. I know they are experimenting with a new shipping method that will allow them to ship anywhere, but I'm not sure if they're doing it yet. I can check if you'd like, email me at Contactusananda@gmail.com
Is it the chain that's breaking down? The cross beam just screws straight into the tracks, so I can't see how that keeps crashing down if it's screwed in
@@nicoleandedden Love the reply, thanks. The Cross beam has been popping off the stud on the non-motorized stud. I beat it on last night with a hammer and I'm optimistic that maybe it holds this time! Glad to hear that yours is holding up well! Most helpful video on the internet for Hapijac.

I'm not sure. Their entire sales funnel is horrible, it's almost impossible to find information about anything, especially where to buy them. It's pretty ridiculous honestly lol @@KwonHo09
@@nicoleandedden haha damn because I bought the 63 inch and it’s not fitting like it does in your video so now I might have to change A LOT 😅
Damn, sorry to hear that! Can you have it exchanged fro the 42 maybe? I assume that would be easier to work with.@@KwonHo09
Please post how you built the sofa.
We have a ton of videos about how we built all sorts of things in the van on our instagram page :)

I learn uou are going to sell the van I really want buy it how can I contact you?

Great job. 1 question, can the width of the frame be wider than the bed? My bed is 60 inches, but I need the frame to be 72 (there will be 6 inch cross members sticking out each side
Yes, I just wouldn't go too far out to the sides. But our bed frame was 56" wide and the happijac system was only 42" or 48" I believe.
is awesome the system, but my doubt is if they support a earthquake on a saturday night after a dinner with candles??
Fully earthquake-proof 😎😂
What are you mounting to? Wood, sheet metal, drywall???
We mounted to wood that was anchored to the van chassis
How did you deal with humidity in the end? Is the plywood breathable?
We made slits in the plywood so air would be sucked up from below and through the mattress
Hello! Did I miss it? What is the standing height when it's up? Thank you!
It's around 5'8" underneath
Hi Eden, does you have mor details from your van, for inspiration the Bed construction and the bathroom in die backside?
Yes, you can watch all the videos on our channel to get more inspo about the rest of the van! We also have a tour coming out very soon that goes over everything in detail :)
Do you just use wood screws to mount the frame? I’m mouthing the frame to 2x4 that are bolted into the van, but I feel like screws aren’t strong enough.
Yes, surprisingly the screws are very sturdy. Of course, use quality screws and make sure to use all provided holes to secure it.
Where in the process of your build do you suggest installing the bed lift?
While building out the internal skeleton of the van
Hey Edden! How much does the happijack costs? and are they shopping to germany?
They are around $2500 USD. I'm not sure about international shipping. I know they are experimenting with a new shipping method that will allow them to ship anywhere, but I'm not sure if they're doing it yet. I can check if you'd like, email me at Contactusananda@gmail.com
My non motorized side of happijac bed keeps coming apart and comes crashing down. Can’t seem to get the cross beam bar secured on each side
@@QuintonHamp Appreciate it! I can't imagine what would need hammering to fix on the happijac 😅😂 but I hope it works out! If not, I would need some photo or video to understand what exactly is happening. Not that I'm actually an expert or anything hahah
we need full build video plz
We are posting our full van tour in the next week :)
Will this only work in a Mercedes sprinter van? Or can it also work in a promaster ?
It will work in any van!
How tall is the area under the happy jack ?
It's between 5'6" - 5'8". Every build will be a bit different depending on the van's interior height, floor thickness, etc..
It’s a lot of hassle to get less headroom
How much is the automatic bed frame
They cost around $2,500
Is there any way I could make this but lift it manual?
The Happijac has a manual option in case you need it, but not sure why you would prefer to use it?
Do you know a dealer that sales this?
If you're still looking for where to buy, reach out to us privately and we will be able to help you buy one :) contactusananda@gmail.com
What is the size of the van please 🤔🚍⚓️🇬🇧
It's a Sprinter 170
Uhhhh. I typed in Happy Jack and got a van? I went fishing for a week the entire world changed?!
😅
Way to cumbersome bed raise system.
That gay dude has skills!
🤣🤣🤣🤣those directions
So bad hahaha
Wy didn't you just use a FatMax waterpas magnet ????
You can't use a waterpass level in a van, because the van is usually not sitting on a perfectly level floor.
THANK YOU!!
My pleasure! Hope it helped! If you have any questions shoot us a message!
What size mattress did you use?
Queen
