i do wonder if anybody has considered flipping the setup around. Raise the sofa floor at night, admitted you might need a double lift so you can then also raise the bed a little, which gives a normal domestic bed height. And while travelling you'd be able to raise both to the ceiling and have a free van floor for your bikes etc

Hi I'm so impressed across the board with you, your build, your aesthetic, and your ability to articulate your technical design and reasoning. I've watched many elevator bed video's with hopes of finding a build which suits a room (not van) in order to fully free the floor a few times a week.
??? Given your deep grasp of the options and your system, do you have any thoughts on how to do this without losing central floor space due to the "footboard" track actuators???
My gratitude for any time you take to consider the parameters and solutions for my need.

The way an linear actuator works is a small powerful motor spinning a screw thread metal rod through a screw thread hole. It cannot go up or down without spinning this rod so can never be in free fall.

Thank you so much for sharing your design and explaining how it works. You did an amazing job. Do you have any ideas for a (non-electric) swivel chair on a track? My idea is to put a co-pilot seat in the front-right passenger position of a bus above the stairs. But It needs to be movable on some sort of track embedded in the floor. The stairs on a bus take up a lot of usable space and I want to have my navigator (my son) sitting in a regular RV seat that can be ‘parked’ back a ways and to the side, until it’s time to travel. Then I would close down a cover over the stairs, slide the chair smoothly on its tracks into position on top of the stair-cover, and lock into position. Does that make sense? I saw one like this on a bus conversion but didn’t get the link. What would you recommend for a dependable locking mechanism that would keep the seat in place while holding up to 300 lbs? Or my other idea would be to use one of the original school bus seats, having it parked & locked back against the side wall at a right angle to the front when not traveling. Then when it’s time to travel, the seat could be unlocked & pivot toward the front and slide forward to a position where it could be locked in place. Again, it would need at least 2-3 locking mechanisms to hold it safely in place wherever it is parked, and possibly some type of embedded track to slide on when it is pivoted and moved toward the front. What do you think?

    Two other questions:
Static force 100 lbs for each actuator. Isn't 400 lbs total capacity a bit too narrow for weight of the bed + 2 persons? What is your experience?
Is there some way to manually lower or raise the bed in case on or more of the actuators fail?
