Hello from Thailand! You’ll be surprised that most of our coffee shop have this menu, even in Starbucks (Orangina top w/ double shots of espresso is quite poppular here).
Moreover, Thai people like to drink espresso w/ many kinds of juice (coconut, pineapple, lemon soda, etc.). Hope you try and enjoy!
charcoal coffee when i was in bankok was the bomb! and lemon coffee!
I tried something similar first in the Philippines. Starbucks had this thing with lemonade and soda water. So refreshing. They settled serving it. Went to Bangkok last month and you're right. Most coffee shops there served an acidic fruit juice and espresso. I tried the yuzu Americano too. So good!
i wouldnt be surprised if there was someone named kel repeatedly going to your coffee shop just to buy orange juice and coffee
Omg I never thought about drinking it with other juices! I live in Brazil and we have SOOOO much juice variety here, I'm gonna try ALL OF THEM
ORANGE JOE???!!?
*Kyle:* nothing about the color of this beverage seems appetizing to me
*The color of the beverage:* looks exactly like his beanie
There is a shop near me that does pineapple juice with espresso floated on top, its not something I would have ever thought to make but I got one on a hot day and loved it. I don't typically like sweet drinks but the tartness went well with the espresso and was refreshing. I think with a more fruit forward espresso it could be even better.
Oh wow… that’s sounds fantastic. I’d love to try this. Have you tried with OJ?
@@KyleRowsell haven't tried with OJ before but I will. Might make one with pineapple at home today now that it is on my mind though since I've got some pineapple juice in the fridge.
@@morganbakerable do it! Let me know your thoughts!
That's so cool! I made cold brew and muddled some pineapple slices into it and it was actually pretty good.

Little tip when pouring on the back of a spoon into coffee, dip the spoon in the liquid then bring your edge of your spoon right to the edge of your liquid, it creates an even more consistent split in the two liquids. Works wonderfully for irish coffees aswell
Great tip!
Thanks. I'm a huge fan of Irish coffee 😯
@@NoZenith I got you bro, can't have my native drink looking like a rotten normal cup of coffee
@@liamblood5239 so when I make it, it's about a tablespoon of brown sugar with 4 oz of coffee, an ounce of Irish whiskey (I tend to use Tullamore Dew or Jameson's because for the price point, you can't beat the availability or quality), stir, stop the swirl making the liquid still, then pour the lightly whipped (thickened NOT firm or any peaks) cream on top.
I'll DEFINITELY be trying your wet spoon technique next time I've friends over.
How do you personally make Irish Coffee?
That's rad.

Nice orange joe.
I've tried it years ago! Actually around a month after I got into coffee I've brought an orange juice to the office and to the disgust in the eyes of my coworkers I've pulled an espresso into small glass of orange juice 😂 It tastes great!
Interesting. Love the presentation before mixing. I would have thought it would be overly acidic but I need to try it for myself first. My wife and her family are from Arizona so I’ll have to pick their brains too.
Please try and let me know your results!
Hello! I’m from Belarus. Last summer this drink (which is cold Cold Orange Coffee here) was a hit. It was possible to have this drink in a big amount of cafés. And there also was Cherry Coffee (the same, but with cherry juice) in one café
It really was the drink of summer 2021 for me
Starbucks offered the Espresso Cloud IPA (in stores that served alcohol a few years ago). It was beer topped with orange-scented espresso. That was surprisingly good.
I've had quite a few espresso tonics as a good summer drink. A few local shops do Espresso over San pellegrino, generally lemon, but you can substitute others. One shop in edmonton does a cold brew coffee and lemonade blend. This seems like a pretty logical next step. Might have to try it when I have OJ at the house.
This is intriguing. I enjoyed the espresso and tonic so I can see this as similar, just more acidic. I will have to try. And btw the whole not measuring thing... yeah I shuddered and almost couldn't watch. Thanks for doing it proper after!
Fascinating subject! I love how great your explanations and examples are :)! Very informative and fun.
I do this every now and then. Especially when I totally need sugar. Lol. The lots of pulp version gives a strange but nice mouth feel. Lol.
Glad it was helpful!
Now look what you’ve done…! It’s definitely unique and I’m very curious as to some of the other mixes people have tried on here as well. I think I’ll enjoy it most when we have guests staying over in the future… even just to see the look on their face(s). Enjoyed this video - Thanks Kyle.
Thanks for watching david! Please let me know if you try it!
I’ll give this a try. When I make espresso tonic I put and orange slice in the cup with ice, tonic over top and then the espresso. Would be similar but obviously way more orange flavour. I never stir my espresso tonic because I like the hit of coffee at first sip so will probably do the same here
I just did a podcast with a lady from Peru and she mentioned they sometimes drink it like that! I was taken back as well! Haha but I think I’m going to give it a try and see what it’s all about. Another great video dude!
Very cool! And thank you rob!!
I can see the oils in the peel pairing nicely with a bright espresso. You could probably have fun with orange bitters, or even a muddled syrup.
Will be making this ASAP! I expect it to taste great, as I really love the breakfast combo of a croissant, espresso and orange juice they have in Italy. Usually I just took sips of coffee and OJ mixing the tastes that way, but this sounds like fun, thanks for a fun idea to try out!
Be sure to report your findings!
@@KyleRowsell he didn’t… tarik let us know about your experience
I was first introduced to this drink in the St. Louis, MO area during a "coffee crawl" around 5 years ago at a local shop. It's not an everyday drink for me… but I make one every couple of months. That bold acidic flavor plus the caffeine just seems to jar me awake!
Coffee crawls! That sounds like a fun idea!
I was very skeptical, but I tried it with my Onyx Coffee Labs Southern Weather and I hate the fact that I like it so much! Really brings out the chocolate notes and tastes like those dark chocolate and orange candles
This is my favorite from a local AZ shop and I honestly don't stir it and it's a delicious journey from coffee to sweet orange juice 😋
I am glad you tried this so I don’t have to, but it also never crossed my mind to make a drink like this. I will say that having coffee with orange flavoring is not totally new as in Starbucks I used to order a Mocha Valencia quite often and I first had it/saw it on the menu at a Starbucks in Whistler.
Did anyone else notice that the color of the espresso & OJ mixed perfectly matched the color of his hat??
Quite a few 😅
I have been making espresso tonic with OJ for a while and love it! Try a 1:1 with espresso and OJ and then pour it on top of 1:2 tonic water
Thanks for sharing this! I’ll try it out.
This is amazing, i tried for the first time at my local coffee cafe and and its called OJ shots with double expresso. Great receipt.
Came across your channel by chance. Love the content and your delivery. Excellent to see a fellow Canadian focused on coffee. This is a fascinating concept. OJ & coffee?? what? but I'll give it a chance. Thanks for the post.
Hey Jeff! Welcome! Please try it out and let me know your thoughts!
@@KyleRowsell mmm well it’s interesting. Had to try twice even. Wife says hard pass, but I may try again down the road. ;)

ORANGE JOE?!?!?
I tried it, very interesting flavor! This is something I wouldn’t drink very regularly, but still good enough to have from time to time. Great video 👍
Thanks!
OMORI
Can someone help me with the proportions? I poured 1/3 OJ, 1/3 tonic and 1/3 espresso. The taste wasn't bad but it didn't really taste like anything! Not tangy not coffee either and not fruity.
Local coffee shop near me sells an espresso Lemonade. It's amazing, and unexpectedly refreshing in the summer.
The coffee and your beanie are the same exact color! Lmfaooooo i fucking died when you started describing the color and held the cup up
The beverage and your toque is the exact same shade of brown. I applaud the coordination ;)
I Didn’t even notice 🤦🏻♂️
This reminds me of some I seen i SEA they blend also sorts of freshly made juices or blended or lemonades with espresso and sometimes syrup very refreshing and makes perfect sense in hot and humid countries like you find in SEA.
Interesting! Never tried this but I sometimes peel an orange to have as my afternoon coffee snack, I like a light roasted fruity coffee hit while the orange taste is still in my mouth
i can see why it would work. going to try it, but i think Im gonna go for a slightly over extracted coffee so it is on the bitter side and let the acidity of the orange juice balance it out. it could probably even be shaken over ice and served as a mocktail!
Definitely going to try this out.
It’s actually so delicious and refreshing on a hot summer afternoon!
I'm probably never going to see any of your videos again, but I hope I do! Very clean cut g
I mean, you could subscribe 😅
Nice!!!Whats the music you using for this video?
Probably gonna try it this afternoon. Really intrigued as I've been wanting to get into some espresso mocktails.
Please let me know your thoughts!
@@KyleRowsell update: I enjoyed it easy more than I expected. Definitely not something that will be a regular staple, but worth trying. You hit the nail on the head though, at a 3:1 ratio the acidity from the OJ actually complements the espresso really well. I might actually prefer it closer to a 2:1.
@@MrGmh22 so stoked to hear it!!!
@@MrGmh22 well said! And glad you agree!
Not the same, but I do a very strong aeropress over freshly juiced lemons, sparking water, and simple syrup. That stuff is amazing on a hot summer day. I’d try the OJ, but I feel I’d need access to espresso or a bialetti.
Dang it Kyle can't be uploading videos 8 mins before I start work lol! Also, I'm in Toronto, any suggestions for a localish roaster for filter coffee (other than pilot)?
😅 Perfect! It’s only 6 min long!
I’d recommend quietly, detour, social and Seth Taylor,
Wow, beautiful b-roll in those opening shots! Keep it up!
I hope it only gets better with time! Thank you for the kind words!
Gonna give it a shot tomorrow! Only have a very pulpy OJ stocked though, you think that’ll make a difference?
For sure! Do it up and share your experience!
I love that combination! It tastes so good. Please do yourself a favor and use freshly squized juice. You can choose sweeter oranges so acidity form juice is not overpowering. Miles better. From my experience espresso from light roasted coffee suits the best. Please experiment further.
If I don’t like tonic and espresso would I not like this either?
“This color is so disgusting!!”
*holds it up to reveal that it’s the exact same color as his hat*
😂 wasn’t intentional ha
Did you purposefully match the hat to the color of the mixed bevereage haha? Cool video. Always fun to see people trying new stuff!
Absolutely not 😅
I have tried it, was fairly ok , great suggestion as always...
Orange joe?1!1!1!2!1!1!2!1
It sounds really interesting. I must say, living in arizona almost all my life, I have never heard of or seen this 😂 I will have to give it a try
KEL OMG ORANGE JOE OMG🗣🗣💯💯💯❗❗❗WE ARE GOING DOWN THE STAIRS W THIS ONE
Kel’s orange joe
Tried it loved it tbh, I picked up a light roast with hints of orange and paired it with a fresh orange juice 3-1
I tried it with 1 part espresso, 2 parts orange juice. Have you ever had orange chocolate? It's like I'm drinking orange chocolate. In a good way.
I love how you’re looking at your first spr-OJ dissing the color but it’s so close to your awesome beanie 😅😂
Haha. Not intentional 🥲
I had one previously at Canard Café in Montreal, but the ratio was roughly what the first drink you made was and i didn't really enjoy it.
Will definitely give the 2nd version a shot!
Please do and let me know your thoughts!
I’ve had this before. The small coffee shop had juicer for small sweet oranges of kiat kiat and super berry/fruit light roast local coffee. Refreshing but my friend who stole a sip started screaming - “It’s so bitter!” I guess it depends on the palate.
Kel moment?
KYLE! Loved this video. As someone who has travelled to Arizona over 20x in the past decade how have I never heard of this?! I got plans to head back there this coming March...any shops you know of specifically making the 'Spr-OJ?
Glad to hear it Tyler! Do try it and share your experience!
@@KyleRowsell I will absolutely look into tracking this down while I am in Phoenix. Huge thanks to you again for the great content you create!
Hi I’m in Tempe and there is a coffee shop called Infusion coffee & tea crafters selling it. 😂I saw in in store and that’s why I’m here😂
You should have left it layered and tried it so you were sipping the orange through the coffee that sits in the top. What's the point of layering if you then mix it up.
I've once tried something similar in a coffee shop in Cape Town, they called it Espresso sunrise
In a blender
Half a cup of ice
1 table spoon of sweaten condensed milk
1 double Espresso
& orange juice (twice the volume of the double Espresso)
Blend until creamy and enjoy
Amazing 👏🏻 thanks for sharing Ted!
Yeah i wondered if this drink (or the texture of it) can be improved with some milk and frothing. Does this work with a regular milk frother too? Don't have a steam wand
Definitely sounds gross. But I trust it's worth trying and I'm interested,. I don't have a real espresso machine at home. So as a substitute would you recommend and espresso-like aeropress brew, or Nespresso pod or v60, or french press?
Kel would love this
Somebody lied to you about french people making that. I've been to a lot, *a lot* of coffee shops and cafés in my 26 years of life here and I have never seen any of them offer that.
But, I will definitely try it, freshly squeezed OJ is a tradition in my family and I'm getting into espresso at home so, perfect experiment.
Good to know. Since I haven’t been this is solely from research!
we made this at a coffee shop I worked at for people who knew to ask for it - we usually called it a “juicy coffee” !
This is THE drink in northern thailand shops, fresh oj with espresso, or coconut water with espresso, i never drink it in Canada because the oj is not the same and its too cold here, but if you think about it, coffee cherry and fruit juice are not that odd of a mix.
Will be trying this !
Please let me know your findings!
It is like a refresher for me. Always order in starbucks orangina with 2 espresso shot.
Might be the cheapest cold coffee in the thailand menu.
The first time I heard about it wasn't even someone who told me Abt it. I saw a B roll on an espresso machine ad and was instantly "WHAT IS THAT "
I thought "coffee - good. Orange juice- good. Both - awesome"
Firstly because I really like fruity and acid light roasted coffee, and second because it just feels refreshing to even think. I live in a hot country, drinking hot coffee latte or milk in any form isn't the most recommendable if you don't want bellyaches for 2 days, and sometimes we need something to enlarge the quantity of time spent drinking the coffee without also having to deal with a massive migraine 2 hours later.
I love it, it's refreshing and cozy, it's citric and full-bodied, I like to mix the oj normally with some fruity or spicy coffee. Everyone should try it.
Kel has been summoned.
