The trick is to mix in some bacon grease to complete that breakfast feeling
@@rogeliogarcia-cavazos3715 always.
Almost bulletproof
A heart(attack)y breakfast
Looooove where you're going with this. But don't forget some egg, sausage and a bit of white beans and tomato sauce to fully round out the experience. ;)
why not throw in some cigarettes and meth just in case
"am I that fussy"?!
My fingers go near the keyboard*
"Don't answer that"
Me: 😫
I laughed so hard when it came out clear-ish.
The thing is evry drink from that company looks like that.
They are well known in Germany for making ice tea.
@@tifacoba i'm pretty sure their teas are a bit more solid in color lol
That's what she said?
"did we accidentally stay on track"😂
“Janitorial lemon... made dirty by the undertones of coffee”
It’s like listening to Shakespeare
You know you're going to enjoy it when you mention Janitorial Lemon
That should be the name for a new flavor :D
I have had a couple of pour overs that I couldn’t describe. Thanks for Janitorial Lemon.
as a German I can say Germany has a history of products no one ever asked for. Sometimes these "ridiculous" products don't disappear from the shelves and become a niche fan favourite
Luckily it is from Austria
@@david316i Well, we do tend to blame the Germans for our mistakes.
Try Japan.
Like that Hitler fella

This is not the type of content I had in mind when I subscribed, but I am thoroughly entertained. 10/10.
Tasting notes: Citrus, sweet, janitorial lemon
I thought he said genitorial lemon. I'm glad that's not a word.
@@simonlowther92 now it is, what does it mean?
subtle notes of pine sol, candied blueberry, windex, orange liqueur,

James breaking down into giggles over how appalling that first sip was brightened my whole day, because wow, I've been there before.
"Janatorial lemon" is now in my personal tasting glossary
@@jameshoffmann should be on the new version of the coffee flavour wheel ;)
I am from Germany, and i tried the Lemon one as soon as it was on the shelves. My curiosity was instantly killed after my first sip. I was actually disgusted and almost gagging. I just could not stand the taste.
Same story man, and I'm not even a coffee snob
The juice is from Austria, so you being German has nothing to do with anything.
@@FloMader Crazy how 255 more people care about what he has to say than what you have to say.
I had an orange juice and espresso drink while I was in Warsaw, Poland that was actually pretty good. It was a passion fruit syrup, with iced orange juice, and espresso poured on top. I recreated it when I got back to the U.S. with fresh orange juice and a citrusy espresso and it was wonderful.
there’s a coffee shop in Boston ~ Finn’s ~ that does a similar coffee drink that is amazing. I think they said it’s lime juice with simple syrup and espresso. The drink is amazingly wonderful
Frei in Hungary has an ice coffee drink with orange too. I love it
I've had a lemon shandy, which was essentially lemonade, topo chico and cold brew--now that was freaking amazing here in houston
Come to add the same comment! I love espresso + orange juice + ice + a bit of sugar.
You know when a busboy clears off an abandoned tabletop and combines the water, juice, and coffee glass contents to better stack them in the dirty dish tub? I’m imagining this tastes of that magical leftover cocktail.
🤣 Drowning in horror!!! I’m quitting sitcoms. This is my new comedy TV.

@@desuMaKun Me too, even better! Bahaha
I was so bored I despaired until I found a whole lot of videos of James tasting things he doesn’t like. This has literally made life more worth living. I love the informative and serious videos too, but this was exactly the thing I needed to have in my life this evening.
I think James deserves some kind of Medal Of Conspicuous Valor During A Pandemic for brightening so many lives during such a trying time.
RUclips recommended me a video of James's a few days ago and I have been binging his stuff. I don't like coffee and am a diet coke drinker but I adore the nerdiness of the channel. It reminds me of how I mod video games and at a certain point messing with the mods and getting them to work became the hobby, not playing the actual games.
It helps that James is handsome as fuck with a great dress sense and an asmr worthy voice. Like yes coffee magician explain the magic of the bean I cannot stand.
Fresh lemon with cold brew and a touch of sugar is actually really good. It's pretty common in Portugal. I know where they get the idea from.
Also lemonade with cascara on ice is amazing. I used to drink it all the time!
Iced lemon coffee is a signature summer drink at a cafe I know. First sip was bewildering but it tasted pretty good by the end. Now I know what it might be inspired by!
I do cold brew with grapefruit and honey and it's very nice. But everyone always seems very alarmed when I mention it.
my brain cant comprehend what that would taste like, i need to try it
My heart sank when you chased the lemon one with the orange. I’ve never seen someone’s tongue hit rock bottom before.
You should try to recreate the drinks/flavors, with your own brews and methods :D
Stencil25 interesting proposal - is it at all possible to make the combination work?
Good cold brew and good fresh lemonade make a fine combination. You float the cold brew atop the lemonade.
Gotta find a coffee that comports with the lemon, though. After some trial and error, though, you have a refreshing beverage for a hot summer day.
It sounds strange but coffee and lemon juice can actually be pretty good. Try a good cold brew, 2 tblsp of lemon juice and 2 pumps of vanilla syrup then shake it all together with ice looking for 16 ounce for the final drink. its weird yes But in the weird is something good and refreshing. also sorry for the measure measurements being usd.
In Colombia, a shot of espresso is sometimes poured into lemonade. That drink is served cold and is incredibly tart/tasty.
Another lemony coffee drink from Colombia is Cafe Campesino. Hot coffee has Panela and fresh lime squeezed in, much like tea.
Espresso on freshly squeezed OJ is not bad either, just make sure the orange is sweet and acidic instead of watery and sour
Possibly the funniest video yet, so many great lines!
Also, really loving the intros and editing, you've definitely improved on this massively and it's so enjoyable to watch!
(oh, and yeah, turns out you weren't crazy about stirring over swirling, actually a notable difference. Was very surprised)
“No, no, no, no, no, no.............. no” 😂 I was missing your facial expressions James!!! Thank you for doing this “for us” 😂 😂
Everything about this is amazing- the intro editing- your honest and hilarious real reactions. Thank you for helping us answering that age old question- why would you do that? Looking forward to the series
"I respect the confidence" it's 2 am, bursting with laughter. I think I waked up my parents and am about to get scolded.
100% worth it
As a bartender I would often make myself a drink with ice coffee, tonic, and lemon. Maybe my tastes are off, but I enjoyed it.
This! This actually tastes lovely! You should alsof try a coffee liqueur with tonic. Weirdly enjoyable!
Lemon in espresso is ok to. And supposed to help against headaches
We have a coffee shop that'll mix tonic, espresso and orange bitters, over ice, served with an orange slice. Great.
My bartender/chef Go-Juice was ice coffee, red wine, a dash of brandy, and lemonade. Serve in a liter plastic container.
The orange juice with cold brew is one of my favourite coffee drinks, but this one on the video is nothing like that. I use quality 100% orange juice, i put it in a glass with ice, and I layer like 50 ml. REAL cold brew to that. I top it up with orange slices.
But it has nothing in common with that thing in the video, i think this "cold brew" is just the water they use to wash away the coffine from the decofinated coffee. Sad.
I was going to say this. I think it has a bit of a Spezi (German orange/cola soda) flavor, which is either rather fitting for this video or ironic depending on your view.
"I don't know if I hate my face enough to take a third sip..." Best line ever in almost any context.
I think you didn't read the directions to "just add vodka."
Thanks for taking one for the team James.
"This waves of flavour crashing over my face, drowning it in horror", enough said, James.
I know it sounds weird, but try mixing actual coffee with 100% orange juice (about 1:1 ratio if pour-over)...it's a surprisingly refreshing summer drink
I tried that in Arizona- they called it a "good morning Vietnam". When you use an aeropress, the drink is separated when you serve it.
@@ethanpayne9256 so cold orange juice and hot coffee? I've only seen natural orange juice and cold brew served really cold
@@andreaoak yes, but there's also ice in the orange juice- cools the coffee off rather quickly. Usually they go for a stronger ratio in the aeropress, since it will be a bit diluted from the ice.
This is a reasonably common thing here in Thailand as well. It's good. The coffee and orange juice are served separated, orange on the bottom, the coffee floats on top.

Absolute delight to watch; I cackled wildly while sitting alone in a room by myself. Comedy gold.
This is one you'll probably have to make yourself, though you might be able to buy prepared versions of this from Spain.
There's a traditional drink from Galicia called 'queimada' which is a punch made from coffee and orujo (firewater). That's probably the strangest coffee drink I've had.
The series no one asked for, but everyone is glad it exists. (side note: Pfanner Ice tea is the ice tea of my childhood and actually quite good, but maybe business isn't going so good )
In Portugal we have the Mazagran, a drink with real lemon juice, espresso, sugar and lots of ice! It’s a good way to cover bad espresso!
tacodias I was thinking of the Mazagran as well.
Lucas Borges Instead of sugar I make mine with honey syrup. It dissolves easier & I prefer the sweetness coming from the honey ✌️
Literally everyone: James we want a v60 video
James: TODAY I HAVE SOME ORANGE JUICE COFFEE
I think “Literally Everyone” still came out on top!
I think the paradox of this product is that if it were to have the sligthest chance of being drinkable or even enjoyable, you were to make of nice freshly squeezed juice and high quality coffee, but the people who are 'creative' enough to come up this this sort of product doesn't really care much for quality.. Anyway great video as always James! Please don't change
I never had this much fun on a review ever! XD Thank you for making my day! Aslo huge fan of your vids, where you explain lesser known issues about coffee!!
James, you truly have the best outrage on RUclips. You're simultaneously soothing and hilarious, but I can feel the disgust coming through the screen. I'm not asking you to repeatedly subject yourself to terrible products for my enjoyment, but... Wait, no, that's exactly what I want every now and then.
I tried something similar in my local coffee shop, where they mixed orange juice, an espresso shot and some flavored syrups. It does come in waves and at first i thought i would never get it again, but by the time I finished it, it became my favorite summer time beverage.
"a janatorial lemon, made dirtier by the undertones of coffee in there." What an absolutely fantastic quote.
The taste of toilet cleaner with brown undertones.
Thank you, sound person. Hearing the gurgle as it makes its way down the esophagus is just *chef’s kiss.*
I am well aware that probably no one will read a comment on a 11 month y/o video. Yet I wanted to state my opinion on Pfanners Coffee & X line. They came out right around the time cold brew really hyped in Germany and probably wanted to get a piece of the cake. And I think I haven't seen them in supermarkets for quite a while. I guess many people bought it out of interest and then didn't after trying it. Yet, I kinda enjoyed it as a substitute for icetea. Pfanner is known for cheapish icetea in Germany and the quality is about on par with their cold brew coffee line. As in, nothing special, yet not bad. And on a hot summers day, as a substitute for icetea, if I wanted something else, which wasn't too sweet, and at least reminded me of coffee, it wasn't too bad. However I haven't bought it in quite a while and won't buy it again (if I even could). It was, very much a product of its time ...and season.
I am way too excited for this series...I stopped what I was doing and immediately watched this video when I saw it was out. Thank you so much for trying all these drinks so that we don''t have to do it ourselves to sate our dying (hopefully not deadly!) curiosity about drinks that should not have coffee in them...
As a German that lives in the UK I think the reason why the title is in English is a because everyone can speak English in Germany and secondly because something that idiotic should only really come from America, so putting the title in English hides that a German company is technically at fault here(well technically Austrian but we will glance over that for the moment)
I was looking for these, trying to answer the question if your taste is so much different indeed.
You'll be glad to hear I couldn't find any. Neither online nor anywhere else.
You need to do one of these on Instagram live so that we can laugh at (with?) you in real time.
@@jameshoffmann yesssss
I had a boss who loved to put some lime juice in his coffee. I love coffee, and I love limes (I usually season my soups and salads with it), but I have never built up the nerve to try. A month ago, I joined a Zoom masterclass on cooking with coffee, as it was one of the events of Coffee Week (I am Ecuadorian and we produce very good coffee, albeit not as famous as Colombian coffee) and the chef made a coffee lemonade (half lemon juice, half french-pressed coffee) and I thought I wanted to try it, but can't manage to build up the nerve for that either...
In Indonesia we have "es alpukat" or "es alpukat kopi" which is like an avocado smoothie with coffee mixed in, you should try to make that!
This show really is just the best. You pitch your voice well enough for excellent radio, the decor is so refreshing in tandem with the tasteful color correction, and your mic and audio balancing sound completely professional.
You make great conversation over very interesting topics and I'm always glad to see your videos in my feed.
Why is this more entertaining than I thought it would be?
“Janitorial” should be added to coffee flavour wheel.
Right next to sceptic
The local convenience store sells cold brew and lemonade. The lemonade sits in a layer below the cold brew.
It's actually quite pleasant!
I've heard of cold brew and lemonade a few times. Never had it. But it seems to keep coming up.
Espresso and orange juice is surprisingly good. The beverage is called a Mexican Sunrise. Start with glass of ice. Prepare your espresso double shot. Pour over ice....take a teaspoon and hold up over the glass and pour chilled orange juice over the spoon into the glass. The beverage will remind you of grapefruit. Very refreshing in the summer.
"The things I do for you."
*Pushes himself out of a window*
*Lands in a bed of orange, lemon, and coffee*
*Vomits*
This is just the best form of coffee entertainment ever. Please keep doing this.
"janitorial lemon" is a gem of a line and also a very clear description. lmao
One day when I was 8 I decided to put OJ in my cereal, I think the same thing happened here, Grandma should make them finish the whole thing.
I did not know this was a thing, but, I did make this mixture with homemade coldbrew and fresh orange juice and I found it refreshing.
So I thing I've tried that actually was quite refreshing, was getting some food grade organic Orange oil and driping one drop on to the very bottom a v60 filter paper. Brew your coffee as normal for a v60 and chill. Nothing more. Just chill and drink it cold. As long as your coffee is decent and obviously to, the orange oil (Saflora is a German / Italian brand I used) it actually turns out with a light, natural pleasant and refreshing flavor.
Thank you for all you do for us!
I wondered if shaking the orange would have helped, but didn't seem to make the lemon any better.
When you were smelling the lemon, I was waiting for you to say it smelled like Lemon Pledge Furniture Polish... well, pretty close.
La Colombe does a canned cold brew shandy lemonade that is conceptually similar but it's actually pretty good imo so I think the problem is in the execution
yes!! the la colombe one is so good!!! and a lot of coffee shops around me make it in house and it is really good!!
Keep it up James, the amount of satisfaction you give us when you drink these horrible drinks is priceless
To be honest, there are several drinks of espresso and orange juice in my local cafes and... I like them :)
I think that they are much better than thus packed mixes, but the idea of mixing orange juice and espresso itself is quite nice.
I've added fresh-squeezed lemon juice in a tiny amount to hot, black, unsweetened coffee before. It wasn't bad. I was looking for a way to amplify the already existing, fruitier notes of the kona coffee I had lying around. Lemon did it a bit, but when I added about an ounce of cherry juice (the liquid leftover when thawing frozen cherries) to my 10 oz cup of coffee, it was a perfect match. Strongly recommended if you want to amp up the sweeter, fruitier flavors your coffee already has for a different cup.
I have mixed iced Kenyan coffee with fresh squeezed orange juice at a 1:1 ratio to good (in my opinion) result. The orange paired with the fruitiness of the coffee and the coffee gave a bitterness to counteract the sweetness of the juice resulting in a grapefruit flavor. Both were very acidic, so it sure woke up the edges of my tongue.
I used the mixture to show baristas in training what "acidic" means when describing coffee.
I’m glad I saw this because I was thinking of creating a coffee orange juice beverage myself.
Funny thing is that there is a Portuguese drink called mazagran that is lemon juice, sugar, and coffee. There are many recipes available, the best ones use an aeropress! That drink is actually really good!
Thank you for reviewing. Good thing i am from germany so i can (and i definetly will) try that. Pfanner is "known" for its ice tea products(really sweet but enjoyable at some occasions) and I assume when you go in from that angle as opposed to from expecting an actual coffee beverage, maybe it's not going to turn out as terrible as you(rightfully) described.
But I have to agree. The idea of mixing my morning coffee with a glass of orange juice sends shivers down my spine so i dont really know what to expect from it.
I'd love to hear the product owner's defense to your comments 😁
Tried the lemon a year ago, the taste is reminiscent of the smell of the liquid in the organic waste bin dripping out of the paper bag if the bin has not been emptied for a long time
All the german companies like "Hey Gunther, JAMES HOFFMANN made reviews about absolutely anything that ist is kinda related with coffee." "STOP there Hans, we`ll make him suffer!"
A: Giggling when smelling something awful, and B: replacing “tastes like ‘Lemon Pledge’ “ with the newly minted ‘janitorial lemon’ made this video more than worth my time.
Pfanner is best known for its iced "tea-adjacent" products. It's the german equivalent of "grape" drinks.
this was so fun to watch!! you are too cute and funny james!♡
Every time when I'm having a bad day, I come back to this video
The face momentarily after taking the first sip of Janitorial Lemon is a fine involuntary impression of the dear departed Grumpy Cat.
When we were first doing Via at Starbucks we tried mixing it with fresh orange juice and the Colombia was actually okay, enough that we were like “what an interesting experiment!”
With better coffee it would be probably fine. Oh gosh that clear liquid thoughhhhh
There are some high end beers that are sours (type of beer) that are infused with coffee. "The Rare Barrel All Systems Go" and "New Belgium Oscar Worthy Coffee" are highly rated on ratebeer.com and I bet they are both bizarre, complex beers. Would love to see you try some of those.
Didn't think about that until you mentioned it. In AZ there's a local brewery making a coffee Kölsch.
A coffee beer episode would be good.
That was entertainment. All I can say is a big thank you for sacrificing your taste buds for us in the name of.......something.
I recently picked up a tin of cold brew mixed with lemon (different brand, I should say). I had much the same reaction. I'm glad I'm not the only one to have this reaction to cold brew with lemon.
I laughed so hard with this video! Thank you for it, James, made my day
WOOOW this made me laugh 😂
That being said though, I have had a coffee/orange juice drink before that was surprisingly great 🙌🏻
It was at ‘Truth Coffee Roasters’ in Cape Town ZA.
I believe they used freshly brewed espresso along with freshly squeezed orange juice with a whole lot of ice 👌🏻
I don't know if this is within the same realm, but la colombe's grapefruit and lemon shandy cold brews are absolutely delicious.
I am so glad they made this product because it resulted in this video. 👏🏻
I like both, very nice in summer 🙂
I was actually excited to see his product at first because the way I drink my coffee hot or cold with nothing but a woman a lemon wedge it was something I picked up in Haiti when I first became sick with cholera it made me feel better and I've continued to drink it
"Uh, no, I'm gonna go back in, cos it's terrible." killed me 🤣🤣🤣
I already knew that product before.
I had to laugh out loud before the video even started and wasn't disappointed by your reaction. By the way your German is pretty spot on.
Interestingly, while I was in Taiwan last month (December 2019) nearly every cafe I visited had some version of lemon and coffee, usually either lemon and espresso or lemon and cold brew. A while back, a local cafe also had a seasonal drink which was cold brew, orange juice, and vanilla syrup, which was quite delicious.
Into the ridiculous? Automatic thumbs up! I'm so interested in non-traditional coffee drinks!!!!
I nearly spewed my coffee all over my keyboard when you said "janitorial lemon" lol XD
Cold brew with a good lemonade or some decent tonic water is really good and refreshing. These just sound like they're half-assing a half decent thing.
Lol.... I laughed so much... "Am I that fussy? Don't answer that.." I could watch your reviews all day
I have tried fresh brewed ice coffee with orange in a restaurant and it was very interesting, I liked it. Not for an everyday drink but for the experience
Chocolate works with orange and with coffee, so I could kinda picture coffee and orange working.
Oh I remember that! I LOVED that stuff (I'm kind of embarrassed to say it but it's true 😅) and I'm sad they don't seem to make it any more.
I really enjoy drinking the Lemon-version in summer...but I don't consider it coffee more like a softdrink. But I really like it

Please try espresso with fresh orange juice! It’s heavenly. Different beans react differently to the orange juice, as the sourness of the juice cuts back on bitterness in the coffee and you pick up on so many interesting delightful flavours.
These pre-mixed versions may not be good, but squeezing fresh lemon juice into espresso is called an "espresso romano," and it's quite popular in Italy. Squeezing fresh lime juice into coffee is called a "cafe guillermo," which is popular in South America.
Pouring fresh espresso over freshly-squeezed orange juice was a fad in Phoenix Arizona for awhile. Someone in the comments mentioned mixing coffee with fresh grapefruit juice, and a quick google search told me that a few cafes have served such grapefruit-coffee combos.
The connecting thread seems to be: freshly-brewed coffee and freshly-squeezed juice. Pre-packaged versions can't compare.
It's sad because Pfanner acctually makes brilliant iced-tea. But this ??!? I can't even.
I actually ad a slice of orange to my flash brews! You should try it. Pour about 2 parts of coffee directly over 1 part ice.
