    Great video as always of one of my favourites. For those that may drink many you can pre mix your honey syrup and ginger syrup at the 1:1, which will be easier to measure 3/4 oz instead of 3/8 oz of each. Or, which I prefer, is once the ginger is grated/juiced I add 2 part honey to 1 part ginger juice. That makes my honey/ginger syrup without the use of any extra sugar. Pure bliss.

      Those are my go to bourbon for a ‘house whiskey’ - any of three will be perfect for mixing. Rye will add spicier notes whilst the bourbon will be sweeter and is more prevalent in recipes so I’d start there... you could substitute one for another when first starting, no probs 👌

    Why straining over fresh ice is important? Why not use the same ice the drink was shaken with?
    Is it just the aesthetics and for the looks?

    • @MrKniIlz
      @MrKniIlz 5 лет назад +4

      As far as I know there are 2 reasons:
      1. Yes the looks. Considering you are bartending for an other person, you want to offer the best experience possible. Fresh Ice Cubes are just larger and not shatterd. And in my opinion dumping in the old ice cubes and some of the cocktails splashes out of the glass isn't as appealing and elegent, as just using new ones.
      Doing a cocktail for yourself and you dont mind this it doesnt matter.
      2. The used cubes are already smaller in size so you tend to have not enough ice in the finished cocktail, what helps watering down the rest of the small ice cubes. Whilst using fresh ice in the glass and you put enough in it, its not gonna dilute as fast. You can find evidence for this in some RUclips experiments where they measure the temperature.
      If you put plenty of Ice Cubes in the shaker in the first hand there might be no difference but I don't know.

    • @matthewgodwin4626
      @matthewgodwin4626 5 лет назад +1

      When you shake ice, it breaks apart into little pieces and it’s really not appealing to try drinking a cocktail with tons of ice shards in it lol. And the above reasons too.

    Any recommendations for a medium priced whiskey to go for in a penicillin? I was thinking macallan or maker’s Mark?

      Makers Mark is perfect! That’s what I generally use as my ‘house whiskey’..

    Please reduce the volume on the backing music

      @@StevetheBartender_ I watch you through multiple devices but mainly on PC Desk Top Speakers. Honestly I had not noticed it so much before but a few recent videos I started to notice it due to the volume or may be repetitiveness of the music. Not going to be that arrogant to demand but you are interesting and charismatic enough to carry the majoriry of the video without backing music (but you do you ss you are thr one who madr it successful). Lovr thr format and set and your clear non-perfectionist style. Sorry I am Irish and we are burdened with the disability of never being able to give a straight answer without writing a novel. Off topic, I was a cocktail barman for several years and although some of your cocktails differ from how I made them I have to admit your versions taste just as good.

      I stock them in my store but realised I don’t even have a product listing online for the copper ones, here are the stainless steel picks: www.cocktailkit.com.au/product/stainless-steel-cocktail-picks-set-of-6/

    In germany laphroaig is about 40 AUD (27 euros) your taxes on alcohol must be insanely high... but he's still worth it

    • @StevetheBartender_
      @StevetheBartender_  5 лет назад

      They are...! $84/litre (of pure alcohol? Which works out to about $24 in excise duty + 10% GST..! So $27 in taxes per bottle...

      @StevetheBartender_  5 лет назад

      Yep! Johnny B will work for the main whisky component but it wouldn’t replace the smoky Islay whisky 🥃

    using a Laphroaig to an cocktail is nearly a sacrilege, but in this case it could be a good one.
