I'm a professor and these officers went too far!!! She was in the wrong for touching them, but their reactions were far above and beyond inappropriate. She didn't need to be treated that way. This is not okay.
Point that can’t be ignored though is that she caused the situation and ultimately what happened falls on her.
She was being pushed around in the crowd. I see no evidence of intent. The cops should never have been their in the first place.

She hit a police officer in the head while he was making an arrest. This is not in dispute, and she clearly admits this later in the video. That is a crime. Then, when informed she was being arrested and asked to sit down on the lawn, she physically resisted. Reasonable force was used against her to gain compliance. This was not police brutality. She is not a victim. She committed a crime and got arrested and charged.

This is why cops hate bodycams. The bodycams record their own crimes while on duty as a "law enforcement" officer.
There's a full film crew there, they still arrest violently with impunity.

I believe it's every Americans right to protest whatever they wish as long as it remains peaceful. You or I or whoever might not agree with them, but they have a right to protest. My Dad told me college kids back in the sixties protested the Vietnam War too. That doesn't make them less American or anti semitic.
We were actually involved in the Vietnam War, Vietnam was a State and not run by a terrorist organization, the protests of the 60’s were anti-war and/or pro-peace protests and not extortion with monetary demands, the protests of the 60’s weren’t disseminating propaganda of a State calling for “Death to America,” and the protests of the 60’s weren’t infringing upon the rights of a certain category of Americans. These people know exactly what they’re doing, and are choosing controversy over cause.

I’m proud of these students and professors exercising their right to protest. I also supported the peaceful protestors in Charlottesville, even though I vehemently disagreed with their message. Free speech is our first amendment for a reason and I would protect it with my life if necessary

OMG, I’m having flashbacks to Kent State in 1970 when Nixon sent in the National Guard to a protest and they shot and killed 4 of the protesters and wounded 9 others. That second woman’s face when the police grabbed her reminded me so much of the photo of the girl at Kent state when she was kneeling next to the body of one of the victims. Please don’t make us live through that scenario again!

So, heres what happened for those who havent yet watched, or have mental problems. An econ professor at an ivy league university was walking on campus to go to a meeting with the philosophy department. On her way, she sees a COP beating a young student for no reason. Being sane, she defends this student and refuses to leave when the vile abuser tells her to go away so he can continue joyfully attacking the person in peace. He then throws her, a thin older woman, to the ground and pummels her for quite a bit as well. She later is filmed being arrested and she asks a student to notify the philosophy department she is being arrested

I think the word the reader of this story is groping for is "interfering with an arrest". Assault can involve any physical contact. The Professor came into contact with an officer who was handcuffing a protestor. That is an assault and interfering with an arrest.
This is the most disgusting act by law enforcement. The professor and students should sue the PD.

I feel sad and disgusting whenever I watched the police deal with university students and professors with this brutality, cruelty and violence as if they were their enemies. These universities produced senior scholars that we are proud of in all fields of science, medicine and engineering. All they did is that they called for freedom for humanity, fighting injustice, oppression, killing innocent people and genocide. Shame on you, they are not criminals.

I'm a retired combat NCO. Please don't generalize I'm not saying terrible things don't happen. But it's an insult to people who serve honorably. Besides, we in the military are trained a hell of a lot better than most cops.Most of us don't lose our shit in stressful situations.

@@patland1762 I was in combat in Kuwait in 91 and deployed to combat in Afghanistan more than one tour. You don't need to lecture me about the horrors of war. I've seen it first hand. What I find offensive is military personnel painted with a broad brush. The soldiers are not the same as the government that sends them to fight. Not every soldier agrees with their orders or even mission. But we take our oaths seriously. And you must realize the soldiers are not always privy to the politics behind the scenes that put them in harms way. May I suggest people think a bit more carefully before making a blanket statement.
