    Can you do a part 2 to this presently ( 2019 update )
    There’s been a ton of games that came out since this video was made that the world can use a few glimpses at. You guys are the best at my life in gaming

    Great video, guys! After my criticism about Limited Run Games and your last video it is great to see that smaller publishers and developers whose business model isn't centered about the hype of rarity get the credit they deserve! In particular the small developer SOEDESCO located in the Netherlands, in Rotterdam, was often mentioned, and rightfully so! Lumo, Song of the Deep, Giana Sisters and many others delivered some of the best game experiences I had so far with this console generations!

      [Try4ce] That is definitely one of the top games from this generation that is in desperate need of a physical copy in English.

    I hope this trend of seeing more and more download style games available on physical media continues to become more popular. ... ... ... Sometimes you also have to buy imports if you want them. I recently bought Alienation, Hustle Kings VR, and Super Stardust VR. I nearly bought Fast Racing Neo for the Wii U, but then remembered the region locking on it, which is a shame.

    Great episode, as always!
    But one remark: the ZX Spectrum and it's main rival the Commodore 64 were indeed more popular than consoles in Europe but we did not call them PC's.
    We called them homecomputers or microcomputers.
    PC's (often called IBM- compatibles) were dull, monochrome or 4-colour, tinny sounding machines people used at work or at home for boring tasks and maybe the occasional game.

    That Lumo looks so much like a remake of Solstice from the NES, which is a game very much worth playing. Might have to give it a try.
    There's a bunch of downloadable games I'd love to see get disc releases like Assault Android Cactus (Which has a PC limited edition available through indiebox but it's still a download), Nova 111 and RIVE. RIVE seems unlikely though as Two Tribes are closing down now.
    Good to see you guys continuing coverage of disc based download games. It's good to see what's out there and for collectors they're pretty much must haves.

    It's starting to get to the point where you'll expect a physical release for higher-profile downloadable/indie games. Merge Games started doing "Signature Editions" with games like Aragami and Super Meat Boy for the PS4.
    I've had my eye on the releases you've shown off here for a while, good video as always!

    • @mylifeingaming
      @mylifeingaming  7 лет назад

      [Try4ce] I'm really curious about Aragami, I almost bought it, but I decided I was spending too much money, so held off for now. It also wouldn't have fit the theme of this episode, being $30.

    I know this video covers console releases but another service to look at is Indiebox. They make a collectors edition physical release of indie titles as a monthly subscription box service like lootcrate.
    They have released some amazing boxes like Rogue Legacy (which I sadly missed out on), Axiom Verge that comes with an awesome statue, soundtrack, map and other goodies. Other releases include Freedom Planet, Armello, Dust an Elysian tail, The Stanley Parable and many others.

    • @Matt-vx3ow
      @Matt-vx3ow 7 лет назад +2

      If you're still interested in Rogue Legacy, Indiebox is selling a steelbook version of it along with other games through Gametrust. www.theindiebox.com/indiebox-at-gamestop/

    Ori and the Blind Forest and Song of the Deep are without a doubt my favorite titles here, I'm so glad they were mentioned! I wasn't aware of Duke Nukem 3D and Geometry Wars 3 being on disc though, I'll have to hunt them down and add them to my library. :)

    The thing i was disappointed with, with the anniversary version of Duke3D was the muffled sound. PC DOS version had better sound. Only Duke's lines were re-recorded.

      In the menu you can change back to original voice (for the original episodes anyway), didn't now if you knew about that, and yes the muffled sound is a bit of an annoyance.

    I just downloaded my games on a cheap SD card, get an Xbox One disc case, print out what I feel would look like the cover art, mod the case to hold the SD card, and boom, I have a digital download in a physical copy and a snazzy case to represent a game I have on my shelf of game discs, not practical, but fun, plus the SD card gives the nostalgia of the cartridge ages...

    Thanks for this video ad further more, THANKS for including whether or not DLC and Patches are included on the disk. The tidbit of information is so helpful in determining whether purchasing the game is worth it if it ships will various bugs on disk.
    It's also a great feeling when you truly have a COMPLETED copy on disk and that means with all available DLC and updates. I should be able to pop the disk in and not worry about downloading additional content even though the game has been out for several months to a year.
    With this current generation, I slowed down in purchasing new games on day one unless it is Resident Evil or any one of Nintendo's first and second party games. Instead, I delay purchase HOPING that said game receives the "GREATEST HITS" treatment usually with ALL DLC and Patches in disk...Usually that happens and boy, what a treat that is. An example of that is Witchier 3 for the PS4.

    keep in mind that both ps4 and xb1 dont allow for play from disc so physical releases are not as big a deal. the discs are simply the install medium and required in the drive to verify and play. a hassle when its just easier to download and play without having to use the disc.
    physical releases are a thing for show off shelf collectors more than simply gamers.

    • @mylifeingaming
      @mylifeingaming  7 лет назад +3

      [Try4ce] Just because the disc is not being actively played doesn't bother me. In fact, I'd say that's a positive step forward. It's still the source that the majority of the game data originates, and it's the only source in the instances where there are no patches (which is why we mentioned specifically when there were none, cause that's kinda cool). There's a lot of reasons to enjoy physical media. I enjoy that I can put them on my shelf, but to me, their primary function is to be used. I don't deny a lot of it may be my old-fashioned gamer ways, but it's all part of the enjoyment to me. To each their own, etc. etc.

I remember the secret in Project Gotham Racing 2 for the original xbox; if you go in your garage and walk around, there is an arcade cabinet in a corner where you can play the original geometry wars! that was fun! :)

    Actually thinking about it, rather surprised The Behemoth didn't have a collection of it's 360 games whether original or Remastered seems like something I would totally be down with, digital or physical as the games they made have been some of the most fun of the 7th generation. As for games here I only bothered with Ori, Geometry Wars 3, and Assault Suit, as the other games just didn't interest me. Though I'm assuming part 2 or 3 will focus on WiiU, 3DS, and Vita games that are similar to this.

      gamesmaster5555 NO THE INTERNET HIVEMIND SAYS ONLY LIKE WHAT WE LIKE, but jokes aside ehh as everyone has preference when it cones to games. Just people act like you insulted them if you don't like the same game for whatever reason, and that gets annoying.

      I can agree that Ori and Geometry Wars were good games, but Song of the Deep was also a nice title to snag so long as the patches don't make you want to rip your hair out. Assault Suit Leynos looks really good to, but I lack a PS4 to play it on and there really aren't any other titles on PS4 that interest me so it wouldn't be worth getting one just to play Leynos... :(

    I have mixed feelings about the Duke 3D remake:
    1) They removed the old Megaton edition from availability... which has other episodes that are missing from World Tour.
    2) The physical version was exclusive from Gamestop.... I had to order mine online, my local shop didn't have a copy on the release date.
    3) The graphics upgrade is.... okay. It looks slightly better than the original (and I'm okay with the original's graphics as a longtime Duke fan)
    And I don't know about you, but I find aiming in Duke World Tour on the Xbox One to be very unsatisfying. I can't get the mouse aim sensitivity right, it's like it is missing "mouse acceleration" or something. If I turn it up too high, then I constantly overshoot enemies left or right. If I turn it down too low, then Duke turns like molasses.
    Still, I'm having fun with it and am enjoying replaying the game on my console! Definitely recommended for any Duke fans!

    Something I found interesting was that the PS3 got a "Best of Playstation Network, Vol. 1" disk release containing When Vikings Attack!, Sound Shapes, Tokyo Jungle, and Fat Princess, but there was never a Vol. 2. Maybe that first one just didn't sell well enough to warrant a sequel, and the world is more ready for digital-first-physical-down-the-road titles these days?

    I got a lot of these digital and the ones I don't I might try because I want to try game genres I don't play often, but question whether I'd really like them. I have ori, lumo physical and plan on getting assault suit physical, but I can't justify rebuying these games again and again. Maybe with switch if it's the game gets released because its handheld and just because I love physical switch, but really I just want to have more money for other stuff more than a physical copy of a game I already have digital and bought for a lot less cuz I waited for the sale.

    I know this video is a bit older but I have a serious question. You guys are talking about patches / updates etc.. does this mean in the future we’re gonna be unable to download those and play em?

      @mylifeingaming  7 лет назад +2

      [Try4ce] Have you watched RGB 105, on Framemeister Alternatives? It's not covered specifically, though we do reference it. From what we understand, there's not a compelling reason to choose the XRGB-3 today. The Framemeister and OSSC perform its functions just as well and better.

    • @ArtGamesfr
      @ArtGamesfr 7 лет назад +1

      Yes I watched, but I just want to know if is good or not? because the Framemeister is 400 euros and I found one XRGB-3 for 150 euros, what are you think? is it better I spend more money in the Framemeister or the diference is not so big? thanks for your attention :)

    • @mylifeingaming
      @mylifeingaming  7 лет назад +2

      [Try4ce] The XRGB-3 is kind of like two devices in one. It has a line-doubler and a scaler built in. I think the short answer is that it's very good, but I think there can be sync issues that the Framemeister does not have. You should read videogameperfection.com for more info on the XRGB-3, as the owner of that site has a lot of experience with it.

    You can get Giana Sisters PC box version sealed for 3.5€ in here. Sadly most of them are in these ugly boxes of brands selling reselling old titles... Though I found some in a normal box too.

    Has anyone run across a good list of download on disc games? There's sooo many games I wanted to play off XBL / PSN that I just didn't because they were released digitally.

      Edelweiss - We think alike, because I wanted to know as well, if there is a site or a listing that list every single game from the PS3/360/Wii era to the current generation of "digital games gone physical".
      I would also like the Wii digital exclusive Contra: Rebirth and the fabulous XBOX 360 LIVE digital-only arcade game, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time Reshelled, to be next on Limited Run's to do list for the PSVita.
      Please make THIS happen! Anyone!

    ya Nintendo is pretty stupid when it comes to competitive pricing. I bought Axoim Verge shortly after it game out for PC and surprisingly i got it on sale. Then a Wii U digital download was released in the first week of September. Nintendo put on a small event called Indie Month (or something like that) and each week they were going to release an larger indie game on the e-shop. I was certain it was going on sale for special price, but nope. Price listed was doubled what I paid on steam, I guess i'll stick to my PC version. Axiom Verge is a game I REALLY REALLY want a PS4 physical copy of. and of course The Witness is a game people have been dying for physical release, but no news.

      [Try4ce] Gosh, yes, I'd actually let myself be ripped off and pay way more than that. I feel that is such an overlooked game from last generation. Even though it's a bit different, I consider it to be a true Contra game. So freaking much fun. Sadly, given the state of Konami these days, I can't imagine it will ever happen.

    why do you guys prefer optical media? Is it the box art? it's actually pretty easy to pull out your ps4 HDD and make a 1:1 clone, when your disc or disc drive breaks you are screwed.

    • @mylifeingaming
      @mylifeingaming  7 лет назад +2

      [Try4ce] It's a combination of things. Both methods have their pitfalls, to be sure. Part of it is to have it feel more a part of your collection of games. Part of it can be the box art. Part of it is having something that can't be taken away if a game is ever delisted, or if the servers are taken down in 15 years. You have enough of a point about the disc drive, but I do feel that PS4 and Xbox One disc drives won't wear down that much because they're mainly used just for installation and checking, not loading constantly mid-game. It's wishful thinking this early, but I do hope we'll see releases like this for Nintendo Switch and its card-based media, because I'd be glad to leave optical media behind.

    • @tinostarks
      @tinostarks 7 лет назад +1

      ***** Funny, my Xbox One blu-ray drive stopped working after a month and I only used it for movies. But your points about "something that can't be taken away/ delisted" are invalid. Both HDDs and Optical discs are a form of storage, they're both 1s and 0s. If something is "de-listed" from PSN the 1's and 0's are still sitting on your HDD that you own, eg., P.T.

      [Try4ce] There's no right or wrong answer here, I think digital/physical/legal/piracy, all those aspects provide different roles in long-term game preservation. Our route is that we much prefer having physical media whenever possible. There are upsides and downsides to it, but at the end of the day, having that item adds to our enjoyment of the hobby as a whole. Is that silly? Maybe in some ways yes, and in other ways no, but we always like to say that as long as you are getting the experience you're looking for with a game, no matter how you obtained it, how you're viewing it, what system you're playing it on, that's the important part. It's gonna be different for everyone.

    • @tinostarks
      @tinostarks 7 лет назад +1

      My Life in Gaming see, you keep saying "physical media", a HDD is very much physical media. I think your brain is looping in anything that is "downloadable" as stuff that lives only in the cloud (like Netflix) but that's not the case here..

    • @mylifeingaming
      @mylifeingaming  7 лет назад +4

      [Try4ce] Not at all. It's not a misunderstanding of what it is, and I do not have a grudge against digital distribution at all. I have purchased and downloaded quite a lot of them, but when given the choice, I prefer a cartridge or disc. The common terminology for "physical media" means read-only memory for a specific game (or compilation of games). A hard drive contains whatever you put on it, but it is not specific to a particular game. People have interest in those objects that are the embodiment of a specific game. That might sound superficial or silly, but the point remains that a lot of people enjoy having those things. But beyond just having them, in the future, they can be installed on any working PS4 or Xbox One hard drive. Don't forget that simply cloning the hard drive does not mean that it will work on any system you shove it into. You need to use the built-in system backup process, and if your system is dead, a simple clone of the hard drive that's inside it will not work on another system. If you cannot download the games anymore at that point, then they're gone. P.T. can be moved only through the backup process, but it can never be downloaded again, even if it is on your account. All of your games on one hard drive is putting all your eggs in one basket. The hard drive can only be cloned through the system it was formatted for. You can download most games again for now, but one day when no one but hardcore enthusiasts care about old PS4 or Xbox One games, Sony and Microsoft will decide it's no longer worth keeping those services up. Will there be workarounds by then? Quite possibly. Which again, just goes to say, there is no right or wrong answer, choose the method that makes you happy. This subject is for people who enjoy physical media, whatever their reason.
