      What year and model car did you get? And how many miles do you have?

    • @XSilvenX

      @@DIYLifeSkills Not sure why, but I'm just now seeing this. To answer your question though, I recently bought a 2011 GS450H with 206K miles. Got it for $9.5K and have since driven 10K miles (daily driver) with minimal issues. This video for the most part covers my bumper as it's identical.
      And before anyone says anything, I know it's not the best price, nor does it make sense to buy such an old car with that kind of mileage, but I was set on the car for a while and figured I could get it to at least 250/300K miles with very careful maintenance and key replacements. We'll see how it goes. It's probably worth mentioning I got it earlier in the year when I could not find a single Black interior/black exterior GS450H in good condition for months. They're extremely hard to find and it still amazes me today how rare the car is. I never see it and I drive literally everywhere in NYC as an Uber driver.

      @@XSilvenX I bought my 2006 with 105K miles 3 years ago and it’s running so smoothly that I’m pretty confident that I can easily get over 200K miles. Only thing I regret is not getting a bigger engine. Also like you. I prefer black leather interior, but mine is gray which is much better than tan leather which I hate. Thanks for following up.

      I had water in my Jetta headlight, and what I did was take out the bulb and then used a hair dryer to dry out the moisture inside. And then added some caulking on top of the headlight to seal off the moisture leak and that solved the problem.

    Would you need to remove the whole bumper to replace the fog light assembly/housing? Or can you just access it from the bottom of the car if you jack it up

    • @DIYLifeSkills
      @DIYLifeSkills  6 месяцев назад

      I think if you jack up the entire frontend and remove both front tires, and then remove or just peel back on fender liner, you should be able to reach the fog light assembly. Let me know how it goes for others consider doing this.

    First of all, that GS is immaculate! 😍
    My question: is it necessary to remove the front bumper to change the low beam headlights? I want to upgrade the headlights but I don’t have the tools and expertise to remove the bumper.

    • @DIYLifeSkills
      @DIYLifeSkills  2 года назад

      By headlight, I'm assuming you are referring to the entire headlight assembly. In that case, you have to remove the bumper. It's not super difficult in terms of skills or tools needed, but it's very tedious as you have to remove so many bolts, screws, clips, and to get it back on perfectly you really need two people.

    • @TheLifeOnHigh
      @TheLifeOnHigh 2 года назад

      @@DIYLifeSkills thanks for replying so quickly, but no I’m not referring to the entire assembly. I simply want to upgrade the HID bulbs to the OSRAM series. They are said to give performance similar to LED output.

    • @DIYLifeSkills
      @DIYLifeSkills  2 года назад

      @@TheLifeOnHigh The OEM HID bulb gets power from the ballast, so I don't think you can just swap LED bulb to it. I think you may have to bypass the HID connection and feed a new power line to the new LED bulb. You can actually all the manufacturer or try to find HID to LED conversion videos on RUclips. If you get this working, I'm curious to give it a try. Let me know how it goes.

    • @TheLifeOnHigh
      @TheLifeOnHigh 2 года назад +1

      @@DIYLifeSkills no no, I’m sorry for poorly communicating my question. The OSRAM bulbs are high performance HIDs. They are not LED bulbs. So the job is a simple HID swap. Would I still have to remove the bumper just to swap them out using the same connectors?
      Edit: I gave up on the idea of converting the HIDs to LEDs because I’m told LED light does not reflect well through projector lenses. So the high performance HIDs is the next best option for those of us with the projector lenses. I’ve already swapped the fog lights with LEDs and they look incredible on the road. But they also make my existing 4300k HIDs look much more yellow 😒

    When removing the 10mm bolt that holds the bumper to the headlight housing it was too tight and broke the housing and now how matter how much I turn it it won’t loosen since whatever the bolt screwed into inside that housing is rotating with it. It was bit of a journey to figure out how to remove the ballast without completely opening up the headlight assembly.
      I've tried 3 methods and they didn't work out, but finally on fourth method, I was able to replace the ballast with
      no disassembly to the headlight. I still have assemble everything back on to the car, and edit bunch of videos,
      so it'll probably this weekend when I can upload the video.
