Common / People - a William Shatner, Kirk & Spock slashup

- A mashup of the old animated Star Trek series and William Shatner's cover of Pulp's "Common People." Done in the style of K/S stories, kinda. Therefore, a "slashup." For those complaining, Joe Jackson is the singer in this duet, but Ben Folds produced the entire album it comes from, which I think is where the confusion is coming from.
On Kirk/Spock stories, from Wikipedia:
Almost from the beginning, fans noticed the loving nature of the relationship. A few fan writers started speculating about the possibility of a sexual relationship between Kirk and Spock. The Kirk/Spock phenomenon eventually took on a life of its own, and became one of the driving forces in Star Trek fanzines during their heyday. Развлечения
I would of never guessed that a Shatner musical performance could give me chills. But this song does it. Joe Jackson's dual vocal and the building intensity of all that plebeian rage really makes the original pale in comparison.
I can't stop listening to it. Oh, and this should be the official video.
This may not go over well, but I like the Shatner version of this song better than Pulp. This is one of the few times a cover song is better than the original.
Saucypants1000 I confess, I think the same way
This is one of the most amazing pieces of art I've ever experienced.
This video is proof of the existence of God. Only through the grace of the All Mighty could a man create such a singular work of beauty.
I have to say in all seriousness that this is one of my favorite videos ever. I mean, between this and the infamous "Closer" one, I think all my K/S needs are fulfilled. I adore everything about it, and now when I listen to the song--um, which I've been doing a few times a day, lately--I see this video.
I love the bit of dialogue at the end of this. I remember watching that episode and marvelling at the fact that that moment had come RIGHT the hell out of nowhere.
I must say this is the smashingest video I've seen in months. I worship the maker of this video.
Just fantastic! I found this song back in 2006 and it has been a cult hit for me since. I'm trying to figure out how to kareoke to this at a local British pub where I'm at right now. That would be perfect. Anyway, your mash up was awesome! Really the type of thing that makes the internet worth it! Thanks man!
I'm not sure if you made this video, but if you did I wanna thank you because wow. I downloaded this a few years ago and have just fell for it. It's my favorite thing to come out of the Animated series hands down. Not only that but this Shatner cover of the song has replaced the original as my favorite. When I listen to Common People, this is the version I prefer. I have this video to thank. On the editing, this video had a heavy hand in inspiring to get my own video edits out on the net.
Thanks
What makes the whole thing so surreal is that the cover is actually very good.
Space Satan, Space Quetzalcoatl, Fluffle Puff Tribbles, Giant Spock, Furry Man-Cats
, Three-Legged Alien Guitarists, ALice In Wonderland we need a new Animated Star Trek Sereis ASAP.
this video is GOLD
A perfect example of why people can never be lucky. When your rich you long to live a life of someone common without all the problems of being wealthy. And on the other hand, those who are poor or just "common" would be more than happy to have a life where there are no sorrows of how to spend the last day of the month before the new pay check comes home. People will never find peace when they search it by being wealthy. Great job on the video too!
Arguably the most feel-good song of the past twenty years.
Mate that is excellent , made me laugh all the way through.
@PumpkinHipHop Thanks, that is very kind of you to say. I also like this version of Common People better, and that's not something I wanted to admit to at first. I think it's because it starts out as kind of a caricature of Shatner's acting, but quickly becomes brilliant as Joe Jackson joins in and the emotional fervor builds towards the end of the song. I'm glad you enjoyed it and hope you continue with your video edits as well!
@kirkslashspock
Dood, excellent job. This video is epic in every way...!
I've watched this about 15 times today and crack up hysterically each time. thank you for this.
Thumbs up not just for the original song, but for the great job you did at editing together the video. Brilliant!

and god Bless William Shatner.
just realized this is indeed shatner's version from the album Has Been. All this time i thought you had mixed the original pulp song with a Shatner version yourself (and done an awesome job at it, too). I'm getting the album then. Thanks for making me discover this amazing song and congrats on a cool video to go with it.
Very, VERY WELL DONE!! I love the original song, and this "cover" is fantastic.

This is genius. I love all the raised eyebrows.
@flyfloyd33 Thanks for the info, I figured they did show it, they asked permission but I never did get around to sending them the okay... but I don't see why they'd need it from me, since I don't own the rights to the song or the video, I just put the mashup together. I'm kind of honored they went ahead and did show it though. I'm just glad people are still enjoying my silly little hobby, if you guys only knew how drunk I was putting this thing together...
A master piece!

I really wasn't able to catch any "hints" toward K/S slash till the last three seconds, but this was still such a treat to watch. I didn't even know there was an animated star trek!
