Thanks everyone for their appreciation of my clip :) It was fun to make and still fun to watch!
this video is AWESOME ! must've taken a long time b/c the clips & music & lyrics are perfectly blended .... fantastic job !!!!
i JUST FOUND IT ,WATCHED 3 TIME IN A ROW ..........THE BEST ..THANK'S !
Amazing cover by The Shat, and amazing mash-up by you! Win-win!
This is sublime, perfect. A true tribute to the Shat.
Well done!!! That must have taken a very long time to do!! Loved it! 💕
Some people have way too much time on their hands. Which is why we have awesome things like this. :)
imagine what we'd get if we just paid creative people to be creative, instead of needing everything to be a commercial success
I LOVE this song,so relevant
Hilarious. Nailed the tone! I would love to meet the creative genius behind this.
The best cover version of any song ever, and I state this without the faintest trace of irony.
Agreed - for some reason it just works, although "Jackson and Shatner" should have the same impact as "bacon and soap". Still.....
Truth!
I won’t argue it’s bloody awesome
It's definitely Shatner's best cover, and he has some good ones.
However, Devo's cover of "Hey Hey, My My" with Neil Young on supplemental guitar is the greatest moment in early eighties music. It's up on YT now. If it isn't 9 minutes, it's not the right video.
Well that was perfect.
Thanks Greg, Appreciate it!

9 years later this remains one of the greatest things to ever hit RUclips
Yes!
Guys, I literally do not know another human that would have loved this. Its really nice to know you guys are out there, loving this stuff with me.
Nearly ten years old, and I've only seen this for the first time today. Oh well, better late than never. LordRicco666, whoever you are and whether or not you still exist, please know: this is damn beautiful. Funny, slick, gorgeously assembled, and sometimes just wicked smart (Uhura in front of the monitor, relearning everything after Nomad wiped her brain in "The Changeling," in time with "pretend you never went to school"? Oh man!). Bravo, sir, bravo!
Thank you so much sir! and yes I still exist 👍
I'm also late to the party and found this after doing some recent Shatner viewing. The editing on the video is fantastic and although I've known this great Cocker Shatner performance for a long time it's been a real treat to see these pictures too.
For someone that is almost 10 years old, you have a wonderful lexicon and even better taste. 👍
Thank you!
I knew virtually all of the episodes involved, but drew a blank with Uhura's scene
@@johnmccaffrey280 If you are, indeed, LordRicco666, then may I add my thanks, as well!
This is "internet-best of" type of stuff (that's certainly true for all of the many fans of the original Star Trek!)
This has been here for a while, only now just stumbled onto it. I must say, it's brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.
Thank you :)
This is FANTASTIC! I made a William Shatner sing-acting video and someone linked me to this one. I doubt I would have discovered this otherwise. Now all the time I invested is worth it.
Awww awesome, please send me the link if you have it of you singing it
This was better than the last 3 Star Wars movies, and maybe the last 6.
Well..he Shatnered the hell out of that video. It proves there is still some good on this planet if you look hard enough. Well done mate!
I'd give anything to see Shatner , Jackson and the rest of this group do this live
Check out dailymotion
2024 and I've just seen this, pure genius and so well made!
Thanks mate!
You can tell so very well from the pairing of the scenes with the lyrics that the creator is a huge Trek fan andTOSser 👏
This has to be the best William Shatner themed fan-made video out there. That's frankly saying a lot!
Nah, the Kirk/Spock slash "Closer" video is the best. I made a YT account because they made that adult restricted.
@@Bacopa68 Got link? I looked at your channel but couldn't find it.
@@billmilligan7272 Sorry, I meant I signed up to YT because the video was age restricted. Just look up Closer Kirk Spock.
Old friend Alex Proyas (Director, The Crow, Dark City) has just been mesmerized by this today♥♥♥
Thanks for brightening Alex's day all these years later.
Every now and then, I have to revisit this song and put it on blast😁
Congratulations to the person that put this video together, pure genius...
Love the original , but this version took it another level. Love it.
As a fan of Pulp, this song, Star Trek and of course, William Shatner, This was Tremendous ! Great job.
Great video... gotta mention that Joe Jackson duets on this with Shatner for the actual singing. They both do amazing, with Ben Folds providing the music. So many stars...
Just as good today ! Absolute genius ! and what a show..still AWESOME
this may be the greatest video ever....thank you so much for putting it together, makes me ridiculously happy
Ditto!
ikr? LOVED it !!!
Right?! 😆😆😆
I loved the original, but methinks, as the wheel of life rolls ever on, that this version shall posterity embrace.
Thank you sir.
Flawless -
I'd like to think that Bill Shatner has seen this!
As viewers would have noticed, I went with the whole spoken word to video clip approach and I think he'd approve
Is there a Nobel for best video of all time? Consider yourself nominated.
Awwwwwwwwwwww.. thanks :)
Absolutely brilliant,i first heard this version at our local cinema during the intermission, could not believe it I had to ask what version it was,and now with the scenes as well awesome.
This played at a bar I was at tonight. I had to come find it again. So good
It took me 3 years to come across this vid, but I'm so glad I did. Kirk taking Edith Keeler to a supermarket, Operation: Annihilate roaches, Kirok and Trelane as tourists….too damn perfect. Thanks for putting this together!
Anything that brings more attention to this great song has my full support. That, and Joe Jackson vocals.
BRILLIANT VISUALS.
Well Done, Lord Ricco.
Thanks :)
Thank you, thank you, thank you - I haven't laughed this long and this loud for ages. The amount of effort and work required is evident - full marks.
Consider this.... 11, ELEVEN years ago!!!!!!!
Thank you sir :)
@@Atheist7Indeed! I have been quite absent in new content although I do have a Breaking Bad clip spoken word/video in mind
@@LordRicco666What I meant..... Your video is of IMMENSE quality, compared to computers that were available back then.
Must have taken WEEKS if not a couple months of computing time to do.
Whoever you are. Wherever you are. Be proud.
Thank you! I am proud of it and watch it to have a laugh & a smile.
This video has extremely high re-watchability for me. Thank you (to the creator). I love this version of "Common People" by Shatner and Joe Jackson (and Ben Folds).
Thanks :)
You are most welcome! I do rewatch it myself on occasion as it is just upbeat, fun and humorous
Really well done. It must have been a lot of fun to make but also hard work. Kudos for finding so many scenes to match the song lyrics, often in comic fashion. Bravo!
This has to be a STRONG ass candidate for BEST THING ON RUclips EVER!
Truly inspired genius!
How ever did you turn a Shatner cover of a 90's Brit rock class war anthem into a touchingly hilarious tribute to OG Trek?
You FOUND a way!
🖖LLAP
Awww. Thanks :) The clip was spoken word/video so the clip had to match the lyrics of the song so in some ways all it took was meticulous editing and a trekker knowledge of Star Trek but yes wanted to inject humour too :)
But in some ways it's like Michelangelo said "The sculpture is already complete within the marble block, before I start my work. It is already there, I just have to chisel away the superfluous material."
@@LordRicco666Spoken like a true genius, my friend! And it looks like you used bits from ALL the TOS' episodes, which is even more impressive.
I thought I couldn't love this cover more, but I was wrong.
Great editing- thanks for making this!
Agree! I love it when Joe Jackson blasts in. And Shat has the right amount of anger to punk it up. This video makes it even better!
No problems, glad you enjoyed it. Sorry for the long delay in replying I'm quite inactive due to work!
Still gets better and funnier with every viewing - once again, thank you, , thank you......
I keep watching it too! lol :) it is a fun watch and particularly like the film reel slide bit
Still the greatest thing on RUclips. A work of pure genius
This wins the Internet on so many levels!
I love coming back around to this video every so often. One of my all time favorites!
This is the best fan-made/compilation music video I've ever seen.
A genuine Labour of Love, well done Lord Ricco.
Thanks mate! It certainly was, I wish I had time to do others!
Indeed it was! Thanks
This is still one of the best things on RUclips.
Thanks Chino!
Dear god that's beautiful.
That was glorious.
italian renaissance painting? who needs it? we've got youtube fan videos. brilliant!
an award for the CUTTER please!
My mind was blown the first time I heard this song a few years ago and you had to go and take it to a-whole-nother level. Well done
Absolutely perfect, brilliant tribute to Trek original series and stunningly well crafted, bravo!
I did not think it was possible for this song to get any better. This video proved me wrong. Well done! and now...it's back to Christmas songs!
I’m here because Bill Shatner travels to space this week, and I couldn’t think of a better video to share on this momentous occasion.
This is a masterpiece. A work of art. 🙌💯 perfect
This is great! Always been a fan of TOS, what an awesome video. Gotta give credit to Kirk, he sure got around. #1Captain!
This is one of the best internet things I have seen. Thank you sir/madame
You are most welcome
Heard original song while out this evening, had an immediate mid-90's Miller High Life flashback, which led me to finding this. I thank you, sir, for your masterful efforts.
Love this version of Pulp's song and this video is so much fun too!!!
the more I see it, the more I like it. I loved the song but the video also has an incredible production.
Thanks :)
this may be the greatest video of all time - really!
This is the greatest thing ever
Thank You for sharing your genius with the world. We are genuflecting in front of you to shout your amazingness to all.
my fav song ever
Absolutely brialliant..
This is the most entertaining thing that I have ever seen.
I sincerely mean that.
Thanks mate, I'm a fan of it too. Very proud of it and it makes me smile :)
This is pure genius.
I found that clip in 2022 &
THAT. IS. AWESOME. great work. Landru would be proud.
Peace and Tranquility, friend :)
Holy mallolies!!!! That sir, is ART!!!
That was very well done! Nice selection of clips that really fit with the lyrics. Great job!
#LordRicco666, the editing on this clip is worthy of some form of Grammy award. It's brilliant. The #WilliamShatner version of this track was already on my Saxoffender Favourite Of All Time Favourite Setlist. Now it's going to be on there twice. :)
Thanks Sophie... such kind words :)
Wow! You put a lot of thought and work into this. "They'll tear your insides out" (2:58) -- amazing find to match the lyric among dozens of other great video references that match. Well done.
Everybody hates a tourist
Gets me every time!
Just searching for the official video for this song. Couldn't find it. Found this instead. It's even better!
I love everything about this: Star Trek, Shatner, Pulp. Bravo! ❤
Best. Shatner. Song. Ever! You made it better with this video!
This is magic, people!
This is not a video, this is ART.
Thanks I really appreciate that :)
1st time seeing this and absolutely thrilled to find it. I haven't watched these types of clips for years and was hesitant to click onto it, only to find that your inspired concept and playful editing was an absolute fun ride. Thanks for doing this.
Thank you :)
What a staggering exercise in Editing. From the choice of clips, to the overall rhythm, variety of characters and especially the dead-on lip sync moments. I can't even imagine how long this must have taken. Brilliant - absolutely first rate!
It took me 3 days to complete over a long weekend but I had been listening to the song and thinking about clips for it for a couple of months earlier, then one weekend of ripping DVD's and editing :)
@@LordRicco666 Well, brother... you nailed it!
One of the best videos online, top 50 easy.
Happy 91st birthday the honorable william Shatner.this version of this song is alot better than the original.live long and prosper or give me some of that prosper.lol!
Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant!!!!! LOVE his version of this song, and now i love it even more. Thanks for the obvious care and love you put into this.
This is one of the best fan videos I've seen in a long time. Kudos to you, good sir.
I watch this pretty regularly, and I always wonder how intentional it was on op's part that this song kind of feels like a perfect encapsulation of star trek's (especially tos) themes of, like, economic tourism? Like the crew of the enterprise, coming from their utopian society on a mission of curiosity and discovery really are kind of like a rich kid playing at being working class to enrich themselves with authenticity or whatever but then getting way more than they bargained for, and at the same time, encountering all these godly aliens who are even more privileged and bored than they are who use them as playthings for their own entertainment. like that line "and everybody hates a tourist, especially one who thinks it's all such a laugh", one way or the other, isn't that the plot of so many of those old episodes?
anyway great vid 👍
Agreed!
Very nicely put together.
For things like this TOS will never die. ;)
Wow man, thats a lot of work to get such random clips to fit the song. Great job!
2019 - Still f*cking brilliant
For things like this TOS will never die. ;)
I think this may be the first thing I've ever commented on here. Pure. Brilliance.
Brilliant!!! Love Star Trek TOS and Pulp so this is dreamland... really good work!
Lifetime Trekkie, first time watching this, lol. Amazing. Thanks!
First time today....Absolutely Brilliant!! DD
Pure, unadulterated, utter and absolute genius. I have paid to watch good films that were not as good as this
I don't know Star Trek, but damn I want to watch it now !
I mean.... hats off to you sir. That was brilliant!
I can’t stop watching this. It’s so perfect! Thank you for this wonderful work of art.
"Star Trek" 1966 was made so that "Common People" gets a second video.
Thanks :)
@@Atheist7 lol :)
From a great album (Has Been). I listened to it today on the train. Lots of emotion.
Shatner singing "I can't get behind a fat ass" is one of the greatest moments in the history of recorded audio entertainment.
Video is perfect. Wouldn't change a thing.
The only thing I would change is to add an mage of "Nomad" in the gallery of Star Trek villains
Genius...
Absolutely amazing. This is why god made the internet! 😂❤
