Came for the tutorial, left due to bad jokes. Lol just kidding I'm here for the jokes, I have no idea how to use Blender.
Hahahahaha!! I never said they were “good” jokes haha! I’m glad you stayed 😀. Thanks 😀😀
I love your approach , show people the major steps, give them hint as to what can enhance the scene and let them play and add new details to create something they own !!
There were so many techniques in this video, yet surprisingly I already knew most of them, kinda, so the whole process easily made sense to me... but then I realized: "Err, wait. With what I've learned in Blender so far I could have actually made sceneries like that?? O..o I guess it's like cooking: knowing what the ingredients taste like is one thing; knowing how to combine them is another :p
Thanks for this practical, one helluva video. It was an eye-opener :)
Haha, totally. I've come to realize that I know the techniques, but applying them and creating something from scratch is just something completely else and requires experience. We'll get there. :)
Thanks for the vid, Kev. Much appreciated as always!
You are both welcome! It takes a while for the creative application of anything you learn to kick in, at least it does for me. Then, when it kicks in and you start making connections, awesome stuff starts happening! I’m glad to help in a small way, and I’m sure you’ll both be making amazing stuff sooner than you may realize! Thanks, and stay healthy 😀😀
Play around with the ScreenSpaceReflection > Edge Fading! So you wont get that missing reflection section on the screen edge
Thanks for the tutorial! :)
Yeah, I’d admittedly found that AFTER I’d made the video lol. Thanks!
Wow so helpful I like the fact you use only Blender
Thanks! I use Blender for most things as it’s really capable.
I'm starting to relearn blender since I stopped a few years ago before 2.8. Your tutorials are simple enough to understand for relative beginners yet contain useful tips to use later on. They're also funny and entertaining to watch. Keep up the awesome work!
Thanks Jonah! I try every now and then 🤣
no more hair sytems, i been fighting my model for a week now to get my characters hair done and have PTSD when i see hair systems, but i dig these simple concepts that work and can be taken further with a few more steps or time, great vid
Yeah, I hair that haha! Thanks man!!
damnit 😂😂 you just had to
Hey my dude, I can totally relate to the feeling. If it helps, I've found that segmenting the scalp into 4 areas really helps the grooming process to achieve the results you want. You can then run a quick simulation just to set the hair collisions with each other. It beats the hell out of grooming the scalp in one go
As a Frenchman, I only miss the field of frogs! Thx
Haha! As a “colonial” descended from the British, I shall not go there 😀. I’m just kidding. You’re welcome 😀. I’d love to go hang out in France. The closest to the French border I’d ever been was Barcelona.
Now they are on point!
Lol!! Thanks!
Shrek would be pleased, I like it kev :D
Oh man, I forgot about Shrek! Awesome! Thanks!

Shrek: “WHY ARE YOU MAKING MY SWAMP!!??”
@@lostcrusader8053 Hehe with this comments you made my day :D
I missed this one lol!
This is like four or five tutorials in one and all in under 10 minutes, damn you're good! I'm just glad youtube has .25 speed mode.
Haha! Yeah, I was going fast back then.
Love this, even though I have watched and played many hundreds of times over these last few years, I'm always picking up and cleaning my workflow from these demonstrations. Even going back over the basics helps clarify and highlight any bad habits. Thanks again Kev for another great fun walkthrough tutorial!!:)
Thanks Gary! I should do more of these. That helps me tremendously.
@@KevBinge my pleasure!:)
I found this channel and I just want to say you're awesome! Great tips in short videos coupled with good humour make these tutorials really pleasant to watch. Even for advanced users. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Jarek! I have more coming. Welcome!!
I love to see this. The community for blender seems amazing.
Thanks! It’s a really great group of people, and growing quickly.
Well, the sea serpent lady I made in blender needs an enriched environment she can swim around in and call home. Galina will appreciate this!
Then Galina shall be happy, and by default, humanity shall be spared her wrath haha!!

Your videos makes Blender so easy , I wish i had a teacher like you in our country ..love from India 💚
Thanks!! There are some great teachers in India! Check out Just 3D Things and RenderRides. They are really good!
Holy cow. Great tutorials as always. I keep coming back to this one for some reason. I like the techniques you use.
It’s quicker to just use the particle system to generate the grass clump instead of manually duplicating individual blades, and repeat it a few times to make random clumps so you have a group of them, then instance the group onto the weighted map.
It is, and I believe I did that in a video like 2 years ago for something, but this gives you more up front control, which I like. 🥴. I forgot to add that I’m a glutton for punishment haha!
one thing you can do when editing cane/grass/plant is pressing o key (this turns on proportional editing).
Thanks!
its cool,i love your tutorial
j'ai du louper un épisode,le myst t'en parle pas!!!!!
This is a really good tutorial, its quick, fast, and easy.
Thanks!
So beautifully done man. 💪🏾👍🏾🔥
Thank you! I was hoping it at least looked decent to another person lol. I was sitting on this one for a while lol.
@@KevBinge honestly most people nitpick 3d projects but most people couldn't tell if it's low poly or stupid high resolution. Glad you shared it man.
Yeah they do haha, just like everything online lol. I’m glad you dig it and have a great day. Stay healthy man! Thanks!
3:04 - What i would do : Not sure if i will call it a better method, Feel free to correct me if i am wrong
This is the perfect job for a "Skin modifier" to shape the grass blades.
(obviously its a different method which nullifies the process done at the start, but the result can be achieved just the same)
Another tip : In edit mode, select the grass blades faces, right click on them, and "Randomize vertices" (From there, you can control how much you want to randomize THE BLADE itself)
Thanks. Both of those work well too. I was just very lazy here and can randomize manually to my liking. Things can ALWAYS be more efficient of course. Skin modifier is great for quickly drawing, but it’s a different workflow, like you said 😀
Weight painting has so many cool applications. Nice video dude
Thanks Daniel!! I like it, and use it pretty often in so many different applications. I hope all is well!
Thanks for this awesome video....also make more environment tutorials..Your content is simply awesome
Thanks!! I probably will 😀
I notice you have the same error in the render as I do. There is no reflection in the water on the sides.. My "solution" was to increase the camera view and zoom in DaVincie to 1080. That way the lack less reflection area are outside the screen. Inside of Blender I got nowhere trying to find a solution. Might just be a weakness with Eevee.
Yes, you’re right. I think there IS a solution but now I can’t remember it lol. I use Cycles now anyway as CyclesX is faster now. I think someone in the comments of this video actually had a solution.
@@KevBinge Ah I see, yeah, Ill go through the comments and see if I can find it. Ill be using Eevee for that project's final render so a solution would be nice!:)
Hey kev, great video, reminds me a bit of Ian hubert - which is a good thing
I like Ian. He’s awesome 😀. Thanks!
wow that`s very cool! I was browsing your videos to see if you did the 2-nd part of quick space effects but that would suffice as well! very creative
Thanks! I need to do the second part. I put it to the side because the video didn’t take off, but now I want to continue one anyway haha!
Awesome technique for a spooky beginning :-)
Thanks David! It could very well be. Would go well with some Delta Blues... get on it buddy! 😀
@@KevBinge A brilliant idea! :-)
The Separate XYZ node seemed to gradient better with the X node. At 2:03. I"m using 3.4 maybe something changed in the shader.
Thank you , set on my to do list.
Awesome! You can grab the scene file too, it’s up there now for you 😀😀
nice tut
Thank you 😀😀
this is really awesome.... I Love it !!!
Thanks Niladri!!!

Could you make a tutorial on hair, for example braided hair and multicolor hair.
Thank you for this video
Maybe 😁

Thank you!!
thank you, i learned a lot!
You’re welcome, and thanks!!
Love it Kevin! But can we make some more pastries? How about a muffin?? 😂😂
Hahahaha!! I could, but I do take a whole lot of heat for those haha!!
How many of you rewinded the video over and over in oder to read the news flash @3:58 ;-)

i named my grass da rock
Lol!!
Stupid gator ( flyes ) lol i agree 😂😂😂😂😂
Haha!
Thank you so much, please please please consider making “ Boids particles “ tutorial if possible. Thanks
Ooo, I forgot about that. I do have one on the list from a LONG time ago that I never made. Have you seen Ian Hubert’s moth video? It’s really good.
Thank you for the giveaway. You are really awesome. I am new in blender and I am liking it. ❤️😍
Awesome!!
It is evident that the reflection disappears where the grass has been occluded. Can this be fixed in Eevee? One possible approach i can vaguely envision would be planar reflection, so basically there is an underwater mirrored copy of everything that's on top of the water. Another is to have a reflection map probe where the mirrored version of the camera would be, and it's then the environment map for the water. I wouldn't even know how to make these work in detail or whether they would actually work.
You could use refraction. It would work pretty well, but I didn’t use it in this instance.
Pointy McPoint reed?
Great, now I want to go fishing...
Is there a way to get your Blender knowledge transferred to my brain yet?
Stupid cybernetics is taking ages. ;(
Oh.., hey, what ever happened to the unity/unreal connection?
Thanks Kiera! I’m working on a brain transfer machine but it’s slow going lately 🤣. I’m not sure what’s going on in that space but crazy things are happening. We’ll see after SIGGRAPH.
Hey Hey I am next
subsurface, grass and leaves always do need a bit subsurface :) (I'm stupid and wrong read response)
😀
@@KevBinge hm, your comment made me think, so I did some research... and as always, I wrote some stupid stuff. So for everyone else. Subsurface is only good if your mesh has some thickness, not grass in this example. Since the grass here is just a mere plane, translucent is the only acceptable option between the two of them.
That’s true. Translucence in this case renders faster anyway. Good catch!
so cool and so simple
Thanks! It’s pretty simple in concept.
@@KevBinge everyday I love blender more and more
So do I, mostly 😀😀
don't mind me

Lol
At the lower left corner the mist is stagnant that breaks the realism, just find out..... Although the tutorial is very good i havent tried it
Thanks. I didn’t mean this for realism. I’d use Cycles and images for that lol. Although it would be cool to see how far one could push it in that direction.
Interesting one. Love it. Your tutorial is very helpful, I get confidence from you & I enjoy it a lot. I have a request to you if you have some time 😅. Will u give some tips to modeling 3d cartoon character, bring variation in modeling & some animation tips. I'm suddenly stuck in modeling, your knowledge helps me earlier, your tutorials are so good that I know you will bring some new tips & tricks. & Thanks again
Thank you Shuvo! I’m not great at cartoony modeling, but I can do it. I have one on the list, so it’s coming at some point 😀
@@KevBinge I know that will be unique 👍🧡
Can you make a video on timing and spacing
I can try lol. 😀
Do you think shading complex models in blender is doable vs in substance painter?
It’s totally doable but Substance is more streamlined it seems. It’s made for that.
Hey Kev, for a q & d tutorial it's bloody brilliant !
One other thing, did you swap your mic for a tin can & string ? Man it sounds different !
Take care, stay safe & keep on smilin.
Thanks Nigel! I actually had to record through AC blasting because it’s been so hot here in LA. I ran a noise removal filter, so it sucked a bit lol.
@@KevBinge Ah that explains it lol.
Cold as a mother-in-laws kiss here, cant wait for Spring, totally over deicing the car every morning.
Take care buddy.
Southern Hemisphere?
@@KevBinge Yep, Victoria Australia.
South! Well, spring is coming for you guys, hold out for another month 😀
Why not use SSS instead of translucent? is it for performance reasons only?
Yes. Subsurface wasn’t giving me the results or speed I wanted.
@@KevBinge thought so, thanks!
