      While a fun video to watch, I feel you only looked at the singleplayer applications, which is somewhat strange since against AI you can just use the basic divisions you start with and as long as you micro decently and produce enough to cover the frontline, you will eventually win. In MP meanwhile engineer companies and AA are the two most important ones, since without them your army is essentially dead the moment you go to war. Without engineers your divisions cannot push forts, they cannot entrench, they take far more casualties, you cannot defend against tanks. Without AA you cannot shoot down hostile CAS and your infantry will not pierce hostile tank divisions nor will they have hard attack.
      It doesn't matter much that they're more expensive if they're the most important one for any division to have when fighting an opponent that can actually fight back.

      Indeed, relying on engineering companies seems logical until you realize they don't build entrenchments during attacks. The AI's tendency to continuously attack until breaking through nullifies the entrenchment strategy for reinforcements, making it ineffective beyond the initial assault.

    Engineer companies essentially double if not triple the defensive capabilities of your units, against players its a must have. Without it tanks rip through your infantry as if they're not even there. For tanks its also important since in the later levels it adds fighting bonus against tanks, and since forts add as a strength multiplier for units (level 7 forts double the defence of a unit and cause it to take far less casualties) it very much is necesarry.

    I would argue armored and motorized recon are the best recon, here's the reasoning:
    In all instances it's best to minimise the diversity of the equipments you have to produce to maximise production output, that means reusing equipment as much as possible; armored cars only have 2 uses, recon and garrison, however you can do cavalry garrison which is not as good but significantly cheaper. That means using armored car recon takes you a production line of at least 5 mils solely for recon, in my opinion not worthit. However you are likely to be producing light tanks for a stand-in light tank division at which point you just beef up your light tank production to also cover your recon tank needs; Eitherway you are for sure producing motorised and out of the 3 it's the cheapest and thus make it the best for a cheap recon bonus where you only have to beef up motorised production which is already in high priority because a lot of usefull things require motorized anyway.
    As for the cheap and limiting what is needed to produce, I think cavalry recon gives too rubbish bonuses to be worth the effort, tho if you have the support equipment for it then it's better than nothing

And tanks need speed. Anti-tanks are great for minors when under attack by tank major. Anti-air is reducing air-superiority buff by 7% which is nothing from 35%. Since air got buffed anti-air builds are dead. Hospitals are great for minor support countries such as Canada, South Africa, Bulgaria etc. you can level up your divisions to Veterancy level much faster and in most cases it is completely impossible without hospitals. In fact, if I'm playing as SU or the US and flipping via civil war, I usually produce wayyy more support equipment than inf equipment until it pops off. Ai doesn't do this, so what happens is I create the template when the cw starts and my slightly under strength divisions end up stronger than theirs after a few months and I end up winning a war of attrition without taking that much actual attrition

    Question Dave------------->when you build flame tank support company's for other tank divisions, does the speed of the flame tanks affect the speed of the tank division overall? EXAMPLE.........flame tank goes 5.5, your medium tank design in division goes 8.7; so it has no effect, or slows whole division down to 5.5? Also, if it does slow down tank division, does this now mean instead of just adding anti air as a support company to tanks, we now must consider adding motorized anti-air to same tank divisions for tank division speed purposes? Another thing---------->if on your regular tank divisions you have extra fuel drums to make them go further, but you do not on the flame tanks support company, does the no fuel drums on the flame tanks limit the whole division on how far they can go before running out of fuel? These may be obscure questions, but whichever way the effect is, it does change gameplay and IC costs significantly. If these facts DO change how a tank division reacts, cheap flamers are not the way to go when pairing them with other tank divisions, nor are heavy flamers with tank divisions.

  • @Vaelosh466
    @Vaelosh466 Год назад +1

    Field hospitals can be good on offensive infantry divisions to try to retain experience. Even strong infantry takes way more losses than tank divisions, so if for example you're Japan and make some good marines that get trained up in China, you can try to retain their experience fighting more equal enemies invading the rest of the Pacific and India. Also Coordination is a double-edged sword, yes it's good if you are planning for a long battle but it makes it harder to reinforce-meme doomstacks off of important tiles.
    You didn't mention that Military Police increases your recovery rate, which is understandable because it's a completely useless bonus.
    With NSB if you're planning to fight in any supply zone other than your capitol with anything other than plain infantry, you absolutely need a production line of motorized already, so you're probably going to have extra motorized for the recon company. Armored cars are technically better stat-wise but you have to research and produce them, while still having to produce motorized for supply and optionally motorized/tank divisions (and then when you swap to mechanized you'll have a huge reserve of motorized). If you're going to make tanks for armored recon you may as well make them flame tanks and use that support company instead. The main time I use armored recon is if I already have a big reserve of light tanks (e.g. Germany after France) that I've replaced with medium tanks for the spearhead and don't want to commit to converting them to flame.

  • @TheMelnTeam
    @TheMelnTeam Год назад

    Putting this at the top: no, recon is not important as a stat. It does almost nothing in tests.
    - Signals are still junk for SP, unless you battleplan (aka micro atrociously). In SP, these are better than field hospitals...but not that much better. A is ridiculously high.
    - Logistics is a little high, frequently you either have supply/fuel or not, and are IC constrained or frontage constrained rather than supply constrained.
    - Maintenance rated too highly here, and I use them. Though you can get most of the value from using it on pocket closer divisions, if you have the research slots and time available.
    - MP is still unimpressive for garrison work in practice. Better than field hospitals and signals, not great otherwise. Putting it on combat divisions is basically an extra infantry battalion.
    - Engineers boost amphibious, river crossing, fort, and urban when attacking. I don't consider them S tier, but especially the river crossing has value on offensive divisions; terrain penalties are a multiplicative hit against your stats. B seems reasonable, the silly thing is putting some of the others higher. Note that you need '39 version of this tech anyway for flame tanks.
    - Recon as a stat is junk. Almost no measured effect in tests. If you use it, use it for speed or tank stats only.
    - Support rocket only has niche on SF support stack divisions.
    - Support arty is S. It is the most cost-efficient source of soft attack damage in the game. Nearly every division should have it, excepting niche stuff like MW high width tank divisions which might want 5th slot for something else.
    - Support AA is incredible value for red air minors in SP. Other than support arty, only other S candidate.

    Getting around with support companies is actually really easy. A simple rule of thumb is if it requires equipment other than support and trucks, it's not worth it, you should skip it. Creating a whole new production line to get flame tanks, or rocket artillery or armored car or tank recon is beyond dumb. Ain't nobody got time for that. You should be using these factories for stuff that matters and is more versatile and useful. So, the picture has already cleared greatly. Now:
    Logistics - super important, every division should have that because you don't wanna be going behind your troops constantly building railway tracks and supply depos
    Anti-air - super important, every division should have that, it helps both negate enemy's air support and adds some hard attack.
    Artillery - important, I add it to every division
    Field hospitals - super important, every division should have them, despite what this guy says here. Manpower is the single most important resource in the game and it's the only one that doesn't recover. The more manpower you lose, the more will it affect both your economy and your military strength, doesn't matter if you're China, the USSR or Czechoslovakia, you need to preserve your manpower
    These are the four I place in every division. The fifth would be either engineers, if it's an infantry division, or recon or radio if it's an armored division. But, mostly, I don't wanna spend time on researching stuff that ain't gonna make too much of a difference, so I just place engineers with armored too. Well, my armored consists of 8 mechanized/motorized and 2 tank so, it has a lot of defense power as well, and I can basically use them for both defense and offense just as well. Pioneers are a must with Marines.
    MP - skip
    Maintenance - skip, no real use for this. Yeah, this guy is like yeah, but you're gonna capture so much equipment! Well, actually you won't. Firstly, it gives you only 5% capture rate, measly 5% in 1936. And it gives you further 5% in 1939, 1942 and 1945.you need 9 whole years to finally arrive to that magical 20% capture rate, and then you're gonna check your captured equipment and see it's substandard to say the least. One thing I've noticed with coordination while grinding out China achievos, sometimes it's bad.
    During border conflicts, if you knock out one division at a time due to high coordination the enemy has time to reinforce individual units. I've lost borderwars when my units all lose org at the same time and have 0 chance to reinforce while the ai is just cycling units like it's nothing
    Coordination seems good like 80-90% of the time, but that 10-20% can really be painful

    Maintenance companies are bonkers if used correctly. E.g. if playing as Baltic or Balkan nations and you have to survive against germans, italians or soviets, they attack so aggressively that I've had full divisions use ONLY captured best equipment available at that year. To reduce training cost, train pure infantry template to regulars then switch them to the divs you need with full equipment.

    Field hospital.
    I think the problem is that Nations does not produce through the civilian factories (trucks, supple equipment, and trains) to simulate civilian productions.
    the trucks you produce as the player is the G512 6ton truck.
    while the civilian industry would produce stuff like the LV79 truck (civilian) could be pressed for military service but not recommended.
    and here field hospital could have a option to draft civilian trucks (saving your military trucks for other stuff).
    on the MP company.
    1 they added a flat 3 suppression to it so it sort of scales better whit smaller divisions because it went X+3+20%. instead of been just X+20%.
    2 most nations starts whit some kind of Policing division and adding a MP div to it is really cheap and will save manpower in the long run (but you will only add MP to one div per game, maybe two the infantry pure div that just sits in low risk playing checker whit the locals and the heavy armored div for risky locations that need to storm heavily armed resistance cells).
    and latly the also added some defense and breakthrough so maybe worth to add to some tiny coastal defense force maybe.
    Recon
    one thing we have to remember whit the Recon tank/car is that they can be added to marines, paratroopers, Mountaineers whit out inflicting almost any penalty to there ability to perform there main role.
    adding some light tanks to a marine div will make them worse in amphibient assault but add them as recon tanks and they will not drag the marines down.
    or worse make it so that paratroopers can´t paratrooper ,a light tank div force the paratroopers to stay on the ground recon light tanks hello some firepower.
    that said I dont know how well the armor car recon in pure stats are compared to mountaineers or trucks.
    there is diffrent in detail between cav and truck recon both in pure stats and what bonus/penalties it have.
    Anti tanks.
    we have to remember tanks are expensive for most nations and not all nations can produce enough tanks for it to be worth wile.
    anti tank are a cheap comparably to a tank whit the same piercing, but yee adding them to a tank div is a bit pointless.
    Playing as japan currently and tank div are expensive to make and field, just suppling my 4 tank div and marines whit recon tanks is almost as far as I can push it.
    so if war breaks out between me and Russia I will probebly add AT support or line AT to almost all my div.

  • @juvandy
    @juvandy Год назад

    Here's a recon question that I have had for a while- can recon companies give you any intelligence about the enemies you are facing in adjacent tiles? In other words, sometimes your enemy has an intel advantage and you only have a question mark over their unit stack, so you don't actually know what you are facing. It would make sense to me that recon companies should provide some information about those adjacent units- that's what reconnaissance is, after all. Ultimately, that little bit of intelligence can make a big difference when trying to decide where to attack, avoid, encircle, etc.
    Paradox, get on this if you aren't doing it already!

    Motorized recon on mainline inf defnse units is great. Yes its spendy but if you start building trucks early and on even a small nation with concentrated industry you always have enough. I think trucks in general are underrated. Break through woth tank divisions and have a bunch kf moterized 20widths and you'll clean house pretty quickly. For awhile creating encirclements.

    PDX could make it so you only have to research Support Equipment 1, 2, 3 and 4 instead of having to upgrade ea ch support company on an individual level, as it requires quite a lot of research to keep them up to date( basically support equipment 2 would apply the bonuses of the current level 2 companies ).
    In order to not make it OP, they could also add some other unlockables such as makeshift bridges, demolitions, flamethrowers ( would buff engineers on rivers, urban and unlock flame tanks )
    Edit: they could also nerf the AA piercing until you reach AA level 3.

  • @lonurad1259
    @lonurad1259 Год назад

    One thing that would make engineers undeniably better is if they added in proper engineer aspects with armour. Aka engineer 3 you can use armoured engineer companies which would have armoured recovery vehicles to reduce your vehicle losses by a certain percentage and they would also just give a attack bonus I guess or if they really wanted to go into detail, a defence reduction. Looking at vehicles like the Churchill AVRE with the spigot mortar that was used purely to destroy defences. It'd give a much bigger incentive to get them. I still think you overplay how bad you think engineers are. They're definitely overated but they're not as bad as maintenance. Your argument as well that you don't have enough support equipment even though with maintenance you just have an absurd amount of support equipment. Seems very counter productive

      The effect is variable depending on what you're attacking. There are a few cases where it does literally nothing at all, and many more where it's just an extremely minor benefit rather than completely useless. There's also one case where it could be seen as detrimental (high reinforce rate enemy), where having all the enemy divisions de-org at nearly the same time gives them less time to start chain reinforcing.

    • @TheMelnTeam
      @TheMelnTeam Год назад

      71cloak's video was a bit more nuanced than that. Equipment capture...does not work correctly. You get a fraction of what the game claims normally. However, troops in reserve "recapture" equipment even when it wasn't used in combat. Thus, in extreme scenarios like two nations colluding with weird division designs + reserve manipulation, it is probably possible for both sides to walk away with more equipment than they had before starting, generating weapons out of thin air.
      Similarly, the reliability added is not flat, but as a % of current reliability. Thus you unintuitively get less value out of maintenance when the division has low reliability, and the most when it's ~90%.
