Of the latter, just take a listen to Caro's achingly beautiful voice in the recordings of such tunes as "Pretty Ballerina" and "Walk Away Renée" and one could not fail to be moved. Where Scott Walker's musical genius was strongest was his eclectic choices of material, coupled with his ability to produce his sessions and those of other recording artists, as well that he also composed orignal materiel, all facets not typically demonstrated by those who were strictly vocalists, such as the aforementioned Medley. Walker's musical diversity probably put him more in a league with such artists as David Bowie, Elton John, Brian Wilson, etc. Many would also say such opera tenors as Enrico Caruso and Luciano Pavarotti certainly quality as among the "greatest" male singers period. Among other popular male vocalists, consideration must also be given to the hauntingly melodic voice of Carl Wilson of The Beach Boys, the beautiful blood harmonies of Don and Phil Everly of the rockabilly duo The Everly Brothers, and the soul stirrings of Wilson Pickett and Otis Redding. Also, many would include Frank Sinatra, Perry Como and Andy Williams as having very powerful voices. And if we are including female singers, certainly Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin and Dusty Springfield would have to be considered as among "greatest." I would submit Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee, Ronnie Spector, Little Richard and Mick Jagger could also be considered as "great" voices in their respective musical genres. it is unfair to compare musical apples and oranges anyway. So to make a blanket statement that any popular singer would be considered "greatest" when compared with an opera singer would probably provoke a laugh in the face from those educated in serious music. It is probably better to at least narrow down comparisons into categories such as classical and popular, then perhaps further divisions between jazz, rock and roll and soul, etc.

Then I heard another song by him and and blew me away." the old man is back again" then I hear this today and I'm again I'm in awe.. I cannot believe this guy was singing in the time he was around.. Joanna was broadcast on TV on the Canary Islands one saturday afternoon. I was lucky and surprised to see scott singing on spanish TV. Together with this song he also song two more songs; "Jackie" and "The world´s strongest man". John and scott were very popular in those days in spain. They apeared many times on TV.
Yep, he did some avante garde stuff later in his career, some a little too off-the-wall for me, but what a wonderful light tenor voice transporting emotion to another level of being anywhere. Now we are lost as an island imprisoned by the idiots of Brexit. When Scott sang melodies such as this one, I felt that I was on the Côte D'Azur enjoying an endless summer. Thank you Scott for the wonderful memories all bought about by your soulful rendition of well-written songs.

I was a very young teenager when I first heard this beautiful voice. I did,nt know it was beautiful at the time, as he was singing pop with John and Phil..? As I grew older the songs from their sixties stuff became much more powerful to me. Scotts later stuff just sorta baffled me as I just could not differentiate from Scott of The Walker Brothers and the Scott i did not understand... However, my memories of this wonderful voice always make me smile and harken back to the days when i wished i looked, sang and wrote like him. He was a wonder in all his styles and a big influence..
