- Andy Williams has the definitive version of this song, but I am posting this for the curiosity value. Music by Nino Rota, words by Larry Kusik. From "The Moviegoer" (1972).

Scott has a darkness in his voice that prevents even the most sentimental of songs from sounding saccharine.
I wish I could like your comment a million times.
He takes me to a place where no-one else exists. My sacred island so to speak. 🤗❤
The words ….the strings….. the voice….
I cannot get this haunting song out of my mind. I wish I could have felt "this" once in my life.
A Scott fan since, aged 12, I first heard him with the Walker Brothers, and was entranced. I can still remember where I was at that moment!!
his voice is like no other l wished he had appreciated it loved his voice x
Beautiful Song , Wonderful Singer 💝👌🏼
Scott you are amazing loved you from the start the best voice ever in the world xxx
In reply to Linda Jane Manser - having read a few of his biographies, I would say that Scott was never "passed over" He himself declined the record companies' ambitions to make him the next Sinatra, was appalled at the idea of being seen as a crooner, and followed his own musical inclinations. This involved his rejection of pop superstardom
Just discovered this song and anything he did it does not disappoint. Most people are unaware of Scott on this side of the pond and that is unfortunate.
I'd say it was because he was a well of contradictions: the teen idol looks, the unbelievable crooner voice, the existential angst. He wouldn't fall into any safe category, and it must have been very puzzling for the audience at the time. Throw in the fact that he was a very reserved, shy individual who couldn't handle the pressures of fame (and thought the teen adulation kept people from taking him seriously) and you may have an explanation.
Erudite explanation of SW. Thanks.
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From a 73yo Aussie fan.
Are you still alive sir?
The greatest singer i miss him
"(...) Scott´s perfect phrasing and beautiful endings of every word he sings." When his heart was in it, he was unbeatable in that department, wasn't he? :)
This is a track from his album of movie theme songs, its really beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤
Feel myself melt into this song. Subliminal to say the least.
[Verse 1]
Speak softly, love, and hold me warm against your heart
I feel your words, the tender, trembling moments start
We're in a world our very own
Sharing a love that only few have ever known
[Chorus]
Wine-colored days, warmed by the sun
Deep velvet nights, when we are one
[Verse 2]
Speak softly, love, so no one hears us but the sky
The vows of love we make will live until we die
My life is yours and all because
You came into my world with love
So softly, love
[Chorus]
Wine-colored days, warmed by the sun
Deep velvet nights, when we are one
[Verse 3]
Speak softly, love, so no one hears us but the sky
The vows of love we make will live until we die
My life is yours and all because
You came into my world with love
So softly
Love
RIP Scott Walker
Gee. Definitive... Tough assessment. I love Andy for many of the same reasons as his voice in unique, was used in diverse repertoire with elegance. But I think here its neck and neck with Scott edging out because of the orchestration and text allocation with inflection... I know. Technical, but when you are dealing with this level, it deserves to be praised.

感情を深く 染み渡る歌唱です。❤
Scott such an amazing singer why was he passed over. I met him when he was with the Walker Brothers He was so shy and very musical All of the guys were very nice.
Masterpiece!!!
He sings like Andy Williams. However he is not so famous. Wonder why ? He sounds an amazing singer !
Cool meditation scott was the frontman of the fampus walker brothers with 2 number 1 hits also other chart hits hes amazing x
He sounds more like Jack Jones than Andy Williams except his voice is warmer than Jack Jones . ..! As good and wonderful as jack was and still is. He would have been so much more popular and recognizable if he had only sung more songs like this that would have made him so much more than he is today!!!🤔🙄🤗👍
Great Scott, beautiful !
❤❤❤
Exquisite ❤
💕💕💕love from DON CORLEONE ..IL PADRINO
I didn't even know Scott did this one, but -as always- his singing is perfectly mawkish....
super
Better than Andy Williams, absolutely
Possibly, but not at this song.
@guidofski Very perceptive summing up of our hero!
I didn't think anyone could do this song as good as Andy Williams. Clearly I was wrong.
@Viewingpublic08 Well, it nearly made me squirm that actual day, for certain reasons. But I do like him, and I agree he has a great voice!!!
❤🌹🥀👍
Hans stemme fylder virkelig rummet ud og giver kuldegysninger :)
Betterwise
Will always miss his voice. Maybe nót stràit íñ many ways móst óf his songs covered up lots of sincere súbjects or did they.
Very inteligent màn. ànd perhaps sufféred fór that míss you 😚 3:53
@lenahjonsson Always perfectly mawkish? Surely not. Mawkish = sentimental in a way that makes you squirm. There are a few, isolated moments in the early SW canon when I think 'Oh no', but I usually end up being grateful for another chance to hear that great voice. Some of the songs are sentimental, but I don't think he is.
Fantastic...Andy who???
โลกจะสุขและงดงามด้วยความรักแบบไม่มีเงื่อนไขเสมอ
Hi Guidofski, sorry I don't share your affection for this song.It is of course all the better for Scott's voice but it shouts cheap film track. I'm probably being judgemental, being a Lisa Gerrard fan who has created some of the most outstanding film scores. Hey but it's always good to hear Scott crafting away...
No problem at all, everyone is welcome to their opinion here. I love Lisa Gerrard's work myself.
Who is lisa Gerrard most of the world would agree with me no one can beat scott
@@audreybolton1388- Hi Audrey, I agree Scott had the finest male voice in popular music bar none. But when it comes to film music Lisa Gerrard is unique and her voice is too. She is Australian and most well known as fronting Dead Can Dance. Very spiritual lady and one who definitely "sings for God" but not in the narrow religious way. Look her up her voice is unearthly.
@audreybolton1388 agreed, i need to understand the song and the lyrics, Gerrards wall of noise doesn't permit either.
