Arianas voice is more smooth and buttery which is pleasant to the ears. While Miley's voice is more deeper and raw with more feelings. Now both of their voices match different vibes of different songs but for this song I think Miley was able to bring the sadness yet angst in the lyrics come to life.

Facts ppl are so caught up on how high Ariana sings but that’s the most common voice type finding someone with a voice like Miley is rare and it sounds beautiful. Miley sings with so much more feeling to me.
Mileys version is more in harmony with the music, and deeper, slower, emotional, like flowing together and arianas is different, more independant and as an extra instrument, also a lot faster wich doesnt feel like a balad, but more like a dance tune
