I have no idea why Jaguar designed it this way with a separate wire but I'm glad they did and I thank you for showing it. I read a test in a car magazine that showed the start/stop function in most cases only saves extremely little fuel so disabling it seems fine to me.
Blame the Evil European Union. This is them interfering in the minutiae of our lives commanding motor manufacturers to jump through all sets of hoops. On my XF it can be turned off from the panel button. My ThinkDiag OBDII dongle has settings for the start start/system
Fucking brilliant, that nearly put me off buying the car until I was told it was easy to disable, but I never knew how. You're a star. Love the bit about the spare wheel around 2:00 😂
Oh yeah, the main reason for it is because they have these mad rules in Uk/Europe about saving the planet, so higher polluting cars cost more to tax and so on. So they put these on to cut the overall emissions down, so they're cheaper to tax. If it's cheaper to tax more poeple will buy one. That's the theory anyways.
I usually like to use originally Jaguar / Land Rover parts, but this is the cabin filter I’m pretty much ecstatic about: Purolator PBC35667 PurolatorBOSS Premium Cabin Air Filter with Febreze Freshness (This is the one for the Jaguar XE) and some other Jaguar and Land Rover models... but it gets rid of any funny smells I really like these filters. Just an FYI :o)
Yeah man, great advice I’ve done exactly what you showed to do to get this annoying stop start permanently gone. I don’t know why you complaining about a spare wheel i have this repair kit rubbish person who came up with this idea about the repair kit should be locked up.
Interesting, once I got over the unnecessary expletives, - my XE stop start does not work, and you may have told me why - I for one would encourage the use of stop start, it reduces the emissions and saves fuel. Repeated activation does not wear out the starter - these systems have a good deal more thought put into them....
The more you have to start the car the sooner you wear it out, not just the starter but many othyer parts. It is not good for the car at all. Basic physics. On top of that, cars use a little extra fuel on startup so any emissions reductions are at best negligible anyway these days.
Yeah... my stop/start never works! And I always get a low batteries message! They claim at the dealer they did a “software update” then they say they may look next time at the “secondary battery” but I think there is no secondary battery in my XE and the main battery is just bad?! (Thus the power management system stops the stop/start from working). I have (intentionally purchased) the diesel version, and average neat 50 MPG pen and paper and over 60 MPG on the display, but that is without the stop/start working, and I see at every light how the MPG’s count down while standing there 3 minutes each time... so I would love to see with a working stop start in it would bump it actually over 50 MPG actual MPG pen/paper method! I would not use it all the time, but some of the lights are pretty long here. (So I use my judgment as to where to engage or disengage the stop/start system). Other than that, I’m very happy with my Prestige 4WD 20D XE :o) Although the first 60k maintenance is included, I like to change the oil + filter every 5k, use also CERATEC BY LIQUI MOLLY, and I replace the cabin filter rather myself using the Purolator Boss filter for always fresh air in the Jaguar:o) I also like to replace the engine air filters more often as well ad the diesel fuel filter. Any knows about the “secondary battery”? Because I sure don’t find where it is!?
@@mikereynolds1368 thanks! I’ll check it out. Also I’m getting low battery start engine now on every trip I take... I think I’m just gonna buy a new main battery and maybe put an H8 instead of the H7 94R battery.... I bet an new main battery may already resolve a lot of issues, dealer equals... software upgrade... needs a good charge, maybe this maybe that..... I think I’ll start with replacing it myself and go from there. (In theory the battery is even under the 5 year warranty... but yeah, if the donkey doesn’t want...) Again thanks for your reply :o)
@@APPLEtv4VIERACAST that low battery warning is pretty common in jags. There was a forum post I read that explained why it happens. I can't remember which forum though. Iirc that error may not be anything to worry about. It's caused by how the electrical system and the sensor used to detect electrical issues is set up. I'd say have the battery tested before you drop the money on a new battery. Had a jaguar xf that kept giving that error. Replaced the battery and it still happened occasionally.
Good video as it is a pain turning it off all the time , just for your info the starter does not start the car in that mode it is done electronically by stopping the engine at almost Top Dead Centre .
Stupid gimic. The fuel you use when stationary is almost nothing and you are right there is more cost in wear and tear to the starter system, Good vid thx.
You had me at bright orange fkn tire lol. Liked the video at that point regardless if your solution worked or not 😂 And it worked perfectly thx. I also tried it on 2015 Jaguar XJ and it threw an bartery fault.
Easharts did raise the question a year ago about this battery sensor.... Is it possible that the sensor may have other functions other than start/stop we all hate? Is it possible that we might lose the indication of battery condition?
My stop/start thing stopped working about six months ago. I didn't notice it at first, but the car just behaves normally now, but it's never stopped on me.
I have 2018 xe, auto stop/start doesn't work and I brought my car 3 times to dealer to fix it but they were not able to fix it, it is ridiculous to change it to economy every time you start the car, that's annoying.
It is a odd feeling but in reality, the starter is designed with special bearings so it can withstand it. Or so I have read. Thanks. Mine never seemed to work and after searching the engine compartment, my friend said it was a batteryless car. I would bet mine is disabled as well.
I have a 2018 diesel, and I was told by the dealer that when you unplug this you are forcing the car to run in the lower rpm reduced power "winter" safety mode at all times. (Don't know if true.)
I just changed my new secondary small battery for the start and stop on my 2013 XFS. Hope this works on mine as well coz its annoying and pointless restarting the poor engine every stop i make
I tried this just now and unfortunately seems like Jaguar have updated the newer models so that it throws up a "Charging system error". I tried the hack where you unplug one of the connectors above the fuse box but its tricky to get access to and you really need to take off parts of the boot trim. I think the best option now is to turn off SS with coding. I have a Jag specialist lined up to do it next time it's getting work done. FML.
The second battery is smaller it's in the engine bay.i believe it doesn't work great because they used a second battery that isn't powerful enough.done it on the cheap
