    This guy is so ARTICULATE in his demo, never stuttering or searching for words. SOMEONE WHO KNOWS HIS SH*T AND ISN'T AFRAID TO SHARE HIS KNOWLEDGE! Appreciate this young players, years ago guys were MUCH more secretive about their tonal workings. Thanks Andy, fantastic tone/chops.

    I believe he told my brother that he felt the "what is the best amp" question was a complex one. He may have mentioned others but he said he really did love the Lonestar. I think he is being genuine when raving about Mesa Boogie in general and the Lonestar in particular.

    Even on the bridge humbucker,, he has that incredible blues tone. The more I hear him play, the more hooked I get.

    My favorite guitarist on the planet. The perfect storm of tone, technique, taste and phrasing, dude's just a straight MONSTER player! He's also one of the nicest, most ego-less cats you'll ever meet.

    eventually get the things I need to post a video that will hopefully translate well. For those who are wondering if you can reproduce this sound with the Lonestar, my answer is yes. You just need to take some time to dial it in. A good delay (analog preferably) is also a must. It really fills out the sound and is necessary to nail Andy's tone. Thank you Andy for being a great player and a great person.

  • @wfranklin

    Also, I should point out that the lonestar amps all have identical preamps. The same goes for stilleto series. The differences are in the power sections. Based on my financial and volume/power needs (or constraints), the lss was great for me. If you find yourself liking the lsc but are looking for a more British flavor, you can run that amp with el34s or you can get an LSS (which, though less common, comes in a 212, 410, and head configuration).

  • @AndyVerok

    @1dangus1. The answer to your question is tough. When I was making that choice, I went to a shop to try out all the current mesas (except the ED and mark v which weren't out yet). I was thinking going in that I would like the stiletto most, closely followed by the lonestar classic. After trying all the mesas out, I was in love with the lonestar special! I didn't like the stiletto at all actually (it's very brightly voiced). The lss was right in the middle of the lsc and stiletto for me.

  • @cjMhill
    @cjMhill 15 лет назад

    I eventually bought a 2x12 combo. I even searched for a used Memory Man echo & found one around the corner from me. I also bought his signature BB preamp. I've been able to reproduce the sound on this video & the video on the Mesa site almost exactly. I've even learned the Lonestar part of this note for note. For fun, I was thinking of posting a mock video of it, words & all, to demonstrate how similar it sounds. I don't yet have a mic etc & am not sure it would translate well to video. I will

    As far as i know, he put back the JB in his AT100 i read it at the AT forum and in an interview too as far as i remember. It was his all time favourite, the Dimarzio AT1 is also based on the JB, at the end of the Cry for you live video, you can see the logo if you look careful. In the AT300 he has the AT1 which is very very close to the Breed.
    But we can never have his fingers unfortunately, which counts the most:)

    Hey man, seems like you have the same taste in gear as me. I'm continuing to make small tweaks to the lonestar, and I'm finally getting my tone to where I want it. I also moved the amp from my room into a jam space, and man it sounds so much better in a large room.
    Its starting to sparkle the more I treak it.

    I have to interject that Andy's getting that tone with less than 100W coming out of that amp too. That was the big gripe I've had about my Marshalls. They never offered half-power settings on their amps. Much is the pity. I'm a Stiletto fan now big time.

    I have a cool story for everyone. When I ordered Andy's Official Bootleg DVD about 3 years ago, there was a problem with the copy I received. I emailed his site to resolve the issue and got a phone call FROM HIM. He left his cell # on my voicemail so I could call him about it. Months later, while I was searching for a new amp, my brother called him to get his opinion. Andy remembered us & was very gracious. My brother spoke to him a couple of times about the Lonestar.

  • @wfranklin
    @wfranklin  14 лет назад

    I tried it last week and while I thought it sounded good, it wasn't the sort of amp I could make a tonal home in. My dirty and clean sounds tend to involve very different settings (even on the LS) so I was able to get a really nice clean, but when I flipped over to the distortion, I had to retweak. Once I did that, I'd lost the clean I wanted. I think my issues have to do with single channel amps as a whole though. Tone wise, I think the LSS and the 112 ED are very comparable.

  • @enmanuelleonmusic
    @enmanuelleonmusic 11 лет назад

    I know that the tone is on the fingers and blah blah.. but two key things that get's you very close to his Lonestar tone is a maple neck and Celestion V30s. Lonestar with C90s sounds very different, too loose/bassy. The V30 helps to tighten up the bottom end of the Lonestar. The maple neck gives you that chewy tone that rosewood necks don't have.
    Again, I know that we'll never sound like him but I'm just saying, to get very close.

  • @AndyVerok
    @AndyVerok 16 лет назад

    Absolutely agreed, to be honest, i like the drive channel more too of the Stiletto than the Lonestar, cause it has some punchier mids must be because of the EL34's
    But i think there is a little cheating with the clean channel, cause im sure there is the Carl Martin compressor in front of it, which makes the cleans even more sweeter, than it really is:)

    He used Rectos briefly back in the 90s, but I don't think he's as big on the Recto kinda tone.
    I own a RKII though, and can't recommend that sucker enough!

  • @AndyVerok
    @AndyVerok 16 лет назад

    he has a Duncan JB at the bridge and 2 dimarzio cruiser bridge models at the middle and neck positions, they are not that hot to be honest.
    But the tones are not that different i agree with that, but Andy sounds like himself on anything, and thats how it should be.
    He also has an octavia, OC2, and a G-force normally, but this video it is just some clean and dirty sounds

    @wfranklin i'm funny about that kind of stuff too, i remember going to sam ash the other day to try out a marshall haze, but when i saw that the clean and overdrive channell shared the same eq, i didn't even bother, my settings are pretty much completely opposite switching from clean to dirty

    hey man, thanks for uploading this. Wondering if you can help me. I recently bought a lonestar classic 2x12 combo, and I love it, but it is lacking slightly in the shimmer department. I know I have to spend more time dialing it in to get Andy's tone, but I was wondering if you thought i might like the lss better?
    thanks!!!

    i would definitely like for you to show me where i said that "a player's style is determinant on tonality," because i don't believe i said that. if you look at my older comment it says, "you can sound great and suck at the same time. or vice versa." if there is a miscommunication, i'll clear it up.
    what i am saying is that tonality is not affected AT ALL by the way someone plays. many people have great tone, but play awful. i also know many people who play wonderfully and have horrible tone.

    no, 80% of the tone definitely doesn't come from the way you play the guitar. 2/3rds of a player's tone is the amp, and the other 1/3 is from the guitar.
