That's how you know Brentalfloss understands music theory. Melody, countermelody, and different rhythmic cadences allow all of them to be heard without clashing. As a musician, I consider this to be possibly Brentalfloss's best work.

You know you play healer too much in video games when you show up to your first d&d meeting and the experienced players are worrying about dying and you are all if anyone's going to die it will be me and are totally not phased by your possible death bonus points for if you are not a healer class but pick healing abilities just in case

The characterization is great, your interpretation of the original soundtrack is deeper than it usually is and I just totally love the rap part of the *black* mage (has anyone adapted this idea for cosplay yet?). I love how this is more than just a final fantasy song, it's also a statement of the state of society - The Red mage is insecure, and in his pursuit to become successful, he learned a lot of skills - none of which he's managed to master. - The White mage is the most essential part of the team as a Healer, but still doesn't get the respect she deserves from her male counterparts - The Black mage suffers the racial stereotype of the "Scary black man" with using the stereotypically evil dark magic, when in reality all he wants is to be loved and included by his team members. - The fighter being disregarded completely for having a different opinion about battle, and not being the sharpest sword on the rack. (with possibly a dysfunction?) I love this song.
this song is something i remember listening to a lot in my childhood, and along with 8-bit theater and the GBA "Dawn of Souls" remake, helped fuel my apparently uncommon fascination with FF1 specifically. i like this interpretation of the characters. it's a really nice little song.

One thing i like about this song is the speed of each class when they sing all at once at the end, redmage is the fastest because versatility brings fastes word due to swordplay and magick always being switching, whitemage mid speed due to constantly being on their toes to heal when needed and blackmage is the slowest to focus on his slower but strongest spells. Fits the ffxiv class too xD

Need more physical power? no problem the red mage can do it Need a certain elemental attack against and opponent? no problem the red mage has that covered In trouble and need a quick healing boast? Again the red mage can help you out Basically if you have a warrior, white mage, and black mage plus a red you have almost all bases covered. The red mage can help you out with whatever you need.

When they all come in together... That's good writing right there. The melodies work perfectly together. You've got the three different speeds all complementing one another and it sounds fantastic.

You know you have a great song, when someone as good as Brent is the weakest part about it. Espeacially the rap part is so awesome: the lyrics, the flow, the beat. Perfect. Without a doubt my favorite song on this channel.
They did in a different way though, in FF1, the first member of the party has a 50% chance to be targeted, the second has a 25% chance, the last two are 12,5% each.
In MMORPG's mostly play as a healer... The moment somebody thanks you for keeping them alive while cursing at others for standing in the figurative fire (might be acid or just plain concentrated death) is the best moment.
When I first played through Final Fantasy, I was surprised at how useful the White Mage was; both in healing magic and in combating undead foes. Based on what I'd heard, I expected her to have _no_ offensive capabilities. She is _definitely_ one of the most important party members.
Considering current FF titles, I love all the mages. Reds for that sweet doublecast magic, despite their lack of upper tier spells, but sometimes versatility and resourcefulness will come out on top more often. Black mages have a good sweet of options, ranging from status ailment spells such as frog, poison, and sleep, to the most damaging spells in the game such as Fire-Firaja, Ultima, and Flare. White magic is by far the lifeblood of any team, as they exist to keep the party alive, which usually comes in the form of Esuna, which can heal most types of status ailments, and Cure-Curaja, the traditional HP restoring spell. Blue mage are basically monster skill users, and that can be useful, especially if you can learn the Malboro's Bad Breath skill, which can potentially give every status ailment of the game onto a single target.
Red still has a major problem, even if it's still my favourite mage colour and an absolute beast on the NES: Dualcast is one of its equipped abilities. A few friends back in high school had a nasty habit of grinding R.MAG purely to unlock Dualcast, then switching to White, Black or Time. ...We sorely underestimated Blue back then. I will also readily admit that I don't bother with White most of the time -- They fix the party up good, but when I'm sitting on a backpack full of healing items, I don't see the point in bringing along someone with a pea-shooter and a back of Band-Aids. When there's nobody who needs healed or buffed, White is mostly dead weight, and if somebody _does_ need healed, Fighter or Dragoon can take a minute a throw down some X-Potions, while if somebody needs buffed, Summoner can call up Carbuncle.
This is to date my absolute favorite of your videos. Closely followed by your collabs with DemonTomatoDave. I hope you do more like these in the future.

Teamflare Grunt Well yeah but once the fighters become knights, they can heal themselves. Plus, the 4 Fighters strategy is to kill everything before they take any damage in the first place, which they do very effectively.
Issun McGoodmage Yeah but their white magic skills can't get much on a higher level than Cure2. And even if they quite do kill rapidly their foes,on bosses that's another trick,same for some creatures that are immune to physical damages.

When they all come in together... That's good writing right there. The melodies work perfectly together. You've got the three different speeds all complementing one another and it sounds fantastic.

I'm gonna say it: This is probably Brent's best work. He's characterizing the games and the mages just perfectly and the video itself is outstanding and the video so memorable and cool. It deserved the clicks of the Ocarina of Time video or the Yoshi's Island video.

I like the whole relegated to the backstage line referencing Black Mages usually put in the back row even though rows didn't exist in FF1
They did in a different way though, in FF1, the first member of the party has a 50% chance to be targeted, the second has a 25% chance, the last two are 12,5% each.

When I first played through Final Fantasy, I was surprised at how useful the White Mage was; both in healing magic and in combating undead foes. Based on what I'd heard, I expected her to have _no_ offensive capabilities. She is _definitely_ one of the most important party members.

Considering current FF titles, I love all the mages. Reds for that sweet doublecast magic, despite their lack of upper tier spells, but sometimes versatility and resourcefulness will come out on top more often. Black mages have a good sweet of options, ranging from status ailment spells such as frog, poison, and sleep, to the most damaging spells in the game such as Fire-Firaja, Ultima, and Flare. White magic is by far the lifeblood of any team, as they exist to keep the party alive, which usually comes in the form of Esuna, which can heal most types of status ailments, and Cure-Curaja, the traditional HP restoring spell. Blue mage are basically monster skill users, and that can be useful, especially if you can learn the Malboro's Bad Breath skill, which can potentially give every status ailment of the game onto a single target.
Red still has a major problem, even if it's still my favourite mage colour and an absolute beast on the NES: Dualcast is one of its equipped abilities. A few friends back in high school had a nasty habit of grinding R.MAG purely to unlock Dualcast, then switching to White, Black or Time.
...We sorely underestimated Blue back then. I will also readily admit that I don't bother with White most of the time -- They fix the party up good, but when I'm sitting on a backpack full of healing items, I don't see the point in bringing along someone with a pea-shooter and a back of Band-Aids. When there's nobody who needs healed or buffed, White is mostly dead weight, and if somebody _does_ need healed, Fighter or Dragoon can take a minute a throw down some X-Potions, while if somebody needs buffed, Summoner can call up Carbuncle.
This is to date my absolute favorite of your videos. Closely followed by your collabs with DemonTomatoDave. I hope you do more like these in the future.
