Minimalism is simplicity. The simpler you can make a system, the greater chance you have of optimizing that system to get the results you want because there are less variables to account for and less opportunities for things to go wrong. Might be weird but that’s how I often think about it.
I think today we're seeing more and more benefits of minimalism, as many want a cleaner less stressful environment, cost of buying goods is higher than ever and space is less available. It can also be incredibly empowering
Minimalism is an amazing philosophy to prescribe to in your life. I've implemented it in the past year and I cannot thank it enough for all that it has done for me!
"less is more". coming from a culture that put sentimental value to almost everything it pretty challenging. Say keeping a broken mug or toys that were given by a person close to our hearts is very common. It took me a lot of courage to start sorting things that I need to trash to give them away. But once, I've done the 1st step, the succeeding actions is easy breezy. :) now I have so much space and time to do things I love/like.
The joke of "take a picture, it lasts longer" has been weirdly helpful. Still a few bits of memorbelia that I have kept, but snapping a few pics of sentimental items and pitching them has been a good call on a lot of otherwise useless things. Hard drive space is cheap... You can take a lot of pictures and videos that can be rummaged through later, or put through a photo frame, but not take up mental or physical space around the house. I use to be hesitant about it, but even phone cameras are so good now, that it is good enough for the personal archives.
I'd never thought on minimalism beyond clutter versus extra-space...but it applies to time, money perception focus, complexity in life, etc....great vid.

Minimalism will help you through these economic hard times. It has helped me a lot and I wish I learned about minimalism so much earlier in my life. First time I learned about minimalism was in 2008 (economic meltdown). Though I did not suffer in any way in that era, I changed a lot about my life style with respect to minimalism.

Plus less chances of theft and burglary to happen in your house. House cleaning and other chores won't be such a drag. If there are calamities like fire, land or mudslides, flash floods, sinkholes, volcanic eruptions, etc., you could save your lives and have the time to quickly take with you your household's go bag( important documents, clothes, money, medicines, emergency phone number lists, etc.), that you have prepared ahead, by the way, while fleeing. Less anguish and distraught feelings if your house is destroyed by those calamities, natural or man-made because you didn't purchase expensive items.
The happiest I've been in recent times is when I lived in a detached backyard studio. Now I have a two story, 5 bedroom house with a lot of debt and the stress of that truly sucks
I don’t feel myself needing to consume things when the things I have are good enough… I don’t feel anything much when I see the latest smart phone, computer, clothing, cars etc…. It’s not impressive anymore etc because they all get “outdated” and eventually find their way into a landfill.
A new trend is the "minimalist lifestyle." Living by bare bones. A way to not only cut many expenses but also to save money which will grow wealth. But is this good for you? As I told my own subscribers, I contend that instead of having an existence of "minimalism," living in a shack and a sleeping bag, you should adopt the mindset instead. In other words, you don't have to deprive yourself and suffer to have the minimalist mindset which will give you money to invest. The minimalist mindset person will buy only what he needs. He won't go in the winter without a coat but will by the cheapest one that does the job--not the designer label. He won't buy a 50K car when he makes 80K a year. He'll buy the 15K Honda Civic used one and save money on a lesser car payment, insurance and gas. He doesn't go to TGI Friday's every week--he goes once a month and grills at home the other three weeks. He brings his coffee from home and doesn't spend 4 bucks twice a day at Starbucks down the street from his office. See the point? You don't have to live like a monk. The minimalist mindset just cuts down on the unnecessary. If you do this you will find that not only do financial problems disappear but you will grow a ton of assets on the side. Hope this helps someone out there---Charles
The terminology is fairly new (it really sounds like something from out of the 1980s), but the actions DO speak louder than words; I must be [way?] ahead of myself because all I have is a storage unit where there's stuff I salvaged from my [Grandmother's] house before it got sold due to foreclosure (my major home city was engaging in the latest financial and irresponsible turmoil), and a work altercation from a former job (I won't go into detail, but it WAS 'a few choice words' that planted seeds of destruction); it took little, big, and bare tasks for 7 years to clean out the place quietly until issues surfaced ONLY to realize material possessions are distractive, yet, issues alone remain because it's about people; legitimately, people ARE eternal and (" ") we can't take anything to and/or beyond the grave anyway. . .on my end, I still remain disheartened at the way things turned out for the past 15 years (not out of the woods yet: I have a real estate problem, although I do have a second full time job-not thrilled about the current muscle movements-and renting a roomspace), but I have moved on in the described years: only music-n-ministry is working out as I was doing per decade (1990s, 2000s, 2010s. . . ) before the reality earthquake came along-I will not say it's God's plan because that's spiritualizing with blind eyes and lying tongues; currently I do have good days when I'm allowed to pay close attention but not allowed to see what's up ahead. . . Minimalism is another code word for decluttering, downsizing, finding contentment, yet, this was a very good video though.
