    This is amazing. One of the main issues that put the camera out of my budget range was the CFAST cards. Now I can just hand off the drive to the client like this as an additional DIT service. Thank you!

    I've been using this exact same setup. All the components minus the SSD can be purchased for $100 ish. I also bought velcro adhesive so my SSD enclosure is attached directly to my battery. Much better and cheaper than C-Fast cards. Great video Tom.

    Hello Tom.....quick question..... Is it necessary to use two ssd to cfast cables with two enclosures to record 4.6k Raw 60fps slow motion for dual card mode or will only one work? I think you mentioned it at 2:30 but I want to make sure. I'm about to pull the trigger on my 4.6k and I need to make a list of everything I need to get started. Thx

    • @TomAntos
      @TomAntos  8 лет назад

      If you get exactly what I listed on my website or in the description of the video, including the faster EVO 850 SSD then you won't have a problem recording 4.6K 60fps RAW 4:1 or 3:1 or even 1:1. I do it all the time without any problems with just one drive... never used the dual card mode.

      No dropped frames at all here with an EVO 850 -- even in 4.6K RAW (you know, you can set the URSA to stop recording when dropped frames occur -- it never came to that so far).

    • @dagg497
      @dagg497 8 лет назад

      probably write speeds and price. The Samsung Evo series have really good pricepoint for It's ~500Mb/s read/write speeds

      Dennis Kane the one I used is no longer available. Sandisk has a new ssd but at a bigger price. The EVo850 is the best for the price.

    Hey Tom! So glad I found you! I produced a film last year and inherited the URSA mini. I love it for so many reason, not the least of which is because I’m almost 50 and need the big buttons. Ha! Anyway I’m devouring all your videos on this camera (thank you so much!!) and just wondering if the gear list here is current? I see the Samsung drive you list records in 6mb/sec but found a few new Samsung models with the same recording rate for quite a bit less. Would the still work? Thanks again!

    Hi Tom really enjoy your videos. Can you record raw with just one Cfast card cable? I thought you needed the two slots of the Cfast cards because it records in both while doing raw. If you can do it with just one it would be great, it was something I never understood in videos from other people and something that was keeping me away from buying it.

    Nice work around Tom, thanks for the tips. But I sure wish Blackmagic stayed with the SSD recording they had with the production camera. Made life simple and cheap. I guess to shoot a long event (concert etc) can this SSD adaptor take the larger 1 and 2 terabyte cards ?

  •  7 лет назад +3

    I tried your system, but I keep having issues (drop frame, need to reformat, SSD not readable). Is it a Samsung 850 SSD pro problem? An Ursa Mini Pro problem or the Startech enclosure problem? Everything works separately but as soon as I plug everything together, it doesn’t Work... :(

    • @lechnerproductions9208

      Keep in mind you will also need a dtap to usb converter :)

    This worked great BUT I have a quick question: is there any way to test if your SSD is dropping frames other than "visual inspection". For example: If I were to record a full RAW / LOSSLESS test of a static shot how would I know if it is dropping frames? Will the camera throw an error? or will Resolve? or is there another program to check it with?

      There's a CFast breakout cable and power adapter combo that you don't need a new "box" for and you can attach it directly to the camera.

      Christopher George 'Thedesignboy' McClenaghan have you checked it out yet? I ordered too but hear it works for some and doesn’t for others. Hoping I didn’t waist my money

    Tried this set up on my full size Ursa and it won't show up on the screen as me having a drive/ card in the port. Do you have any suggestions?

    I just got my UMP today along with the items needed for this setup (using Samsung 860 EVO 1TB). This setup appears to be working fine in the CFast slot 2 but won't record more than a few seconds in any codec when using slot 1. Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Hello Tom Antos,
    MicroSataCables do not ship to Greece. Do you know any European reseller for the CFast Breakout cable?

    I started using this setup with the Ursa Mini 4.6K and it worked great. However I upgraded to the Ursa Mini Pro and now it starts dropping frames even at 25fps Prores HQ UHD, after 25 seconds. Very strange since they should basically be the same camera. I'm using the Samsung EVO 850 500gb SSD. Just a heads up if your planning to use this setup for the pro version.

    Hey Tom... If I have an Atomos Ninja Flame, that has no SDI. Can I just get an SDI to HDMI (from like BlackMagic) adapter and be able to record on the Ninja Flame and still be able to bypass the CFast Cards. Thanks

    @tom antos, I’m going to want to do the same thing with the black magic pocket cinema camera 6k when it comes in. Please recommend drives that will be compatible for this and how I can set it up. Something that will give me a good amount of record time and will give me the best value for my dollar and won’t bog down during slow motion. Thank you in advance.
