The verse riff is rather 70s classic rock with an AC/DC rhythmic slant/groove, they've also had a couple songs with a bit of an 80s stadium rock sound. One of the difficulties you get when you have a group of musicians that can comfortable play pretty much any style, is that it can take longer to figure out your sound & direction musically. Koiai have definitely experimented quite a bit with genres over the first two EPs. This is one of two songs (along with track 4 'A New Picture') that has an official live video on their channel and whilst I don't think it would fully win you over for this one (just not enough of your energy or vibe), the difference of having a live rhythm section and not programmed drums does improve upon the studio version. Assuming you might record some of these in a batch, so it might be too late, but I'd highly recommend checking out the 'A New Picture' live video alongside the studio version if you've not recorded it yet. They've also just released an MV for 'Come see me', a song on the upcoming 3rd EP which has Kanade & Wakazaemon on drums & bass in the studio for the first time (Wakazaemon is still a support musician rather than full member, but has confirmed she's playing on all the new recordings).
Wait, did you just forget to do the official live video? The drums are a little better than the studio version. Also, the solos remind me of Van Halen. The next song “A New Picture” is my favorite from the album. Don’t forget to do the official live video this time 😁 And it was even my favorite song they’ve released but their newest song “Come see me” is now my favorite. When I first heard it, I was like “yes, this is it. They have finally found their sound.” It would be great if you could check it out when you finish the EP 😉
@@guitarandy2406 oh yes, you are right, thanks 😅 And there was a little snippet of the beginning of song right after “One Way or Another” was finished. “Straight to My Heart” is very “Polyphiesque”. I really like it.
Yeah, I'm not too keen on this song either - neither the ACDC/Status Quo-style elements nor the poppier parts. Still, as with any band with very diverse music, I won't grumble when they move outside the overlap between their taste and mine. There are other songs where they blend in pop in a way that works much better for me.
Not really my thing either, it's well done, but I find it pretty boring (especially the chorus). The solo is okay and I honestly like the track better than most from their first EP, which was more electronic/poppy from what I remember (I have push myself to give it an other listen to make sure).
The beginning sounds really like AC/DC, but it's still a fun song with a cool and relaxed mood.
To me it comes across as AC/DC/Queen/Van Halen wrapped up in a pop song.

You forgot about Straight to my Heart that comes first, track four is A New Picture. :P

It does sound like ACDC Dirty Deeds, but a poppier version of the riff I love the song. The solo part is so good.
