    Brian Eschbach is the new singer. He used to be the rhythm guitarist since the band formed. They brought back Ryan Knight, their old lead guitarist to fill his spot. So now they essentially have 2 lead guitarists (Ryan Knight and Brandon Ellis)

    I checked Pineapple Express out a few years ago after I discovered Bloodywood, but was not a big fan. Sounded a lot like generic US-Nu-Metal with a lot of autotuned vocals. I only liked the Indian sounding parts there. But this one is pretty cool, especially the proggy bits.

  • @2abug

    The sound is definitely clipping in this MV. The iTunes version I downloaded is better but it’s still clipping a bit. And IMO, the synth is too high in the mix in term of volume. Other than than, I think it’s an excellent song. I would love to have a full album collaboration. ASTERISM have also released a newer MV called “Crescendo” for an anime opening. And the mix is better. Speaking of mix, I haven’t watched your reaction to NEMOPHILA’s latest album but for me, the mix is horrible. It’s clipping way too much on almost every song. It’s unlistenable. Except for a couple of songs. You can definitely become deaf with mixes like this one. I don’t know how they all agreed with the sound engineer. Let’s make good songs and ruined them 🤷🏻‍♂️ And I have some albums of my favorite artists that are poorly mixed or clipping too much but nothing compared to this one. I have to look for a Marteen comment. I’m sure he wrote about that somewhere. He’s way more picky than me about that 😆

    It's not a shakuhachi (the flute from Wagakki Band). It might be a bansuri but I'm not sure - I'm not up on Indian flutes. I loved this. I thought Pineapple Express brought a lot to the collaboration, especially but not only the flutes. The non-MV version doesn't have the issue with clipping, not that it really bothers me anyway.

    Can't go wrong with Japanese rock/metal/pop bassplaying. The track itself is probably a bit too poppy for me, but I enjoyed it because of the fantastic bass playing. Zutomayo is the perfect example that instrumentation/bassplaying can help me really enjoy an artist that is in a genre that I typically don't necessarily like too much and this track does the same. I liked it.

    Your pronunciation was actually not that bad (even l'loeil wasn't terrible), but I guess 2abug would be a better judge than me (not sure if he checks these out). I am absolutely not good at French (I sucked at it in school), but I know how to pronounce it being from Belgium and all. As far as the track goes, I really like this one. And again, I love them switching up the genres on this whole album. It keeps everything fresh and shows how much different kinds of music you can do with violin.

    Well, I tried again, it has been a while. The first part with the harsh vocals was okay although the one with the deeper growls are too pitch-shifted for my taste. The screamer is pretty good, although my guess is all of it is very much helped by technology (if I go on the deeper growler which don't sound natural at all), the screamer does sound pretty natural though. The chorus is not my thing, both the melody, autotune and the extremely triggered drums are a bit too much for me. The track is fine for what it is though, I like this way more than the couple of things I have heard by PassCode and didn't feel the need to turn it off. Overall the thing that bothers me the most is how "fake" and overproduced everything sounds, it has that alt idol type of sheen to it. And I understand why a lot of people like that (and it's not even close to the worst I have ever heard), I am absolutely not trashing on anyone that loves this group, but that sheen is really not my thing. I am happy I checked this out though and I might have to check out a live set if I can find one that hasn't been overly post-produced. I am curious how they handle this live and I just want to hear a cleanish rendition of their harsh vocals because I have a feeling they might be pretty good. Honestly, this is one of the better ones in this genre I have heard (granted, I haven't heard a lot of this stuff as I typically stay away from it). Edit: I just saw there are (were?) DVD's released, can fans let me know if those are super polished/extremely produced or are they semi raw? (not sure if people notice that stuff as much as I do, but I can try). Maybe I should just bite the bullet and try one of them. Edit 2: Seems like they only have the first DVD any more. Also when looking for those I saw that the Rise Into Chaos album was 50% off somewhere, so I quickly skipped through a couple of your reactions to it and decided to leave it alone. I will probably get the first DVD though if I can get it and I have put a proxy request on the latest DVD since that seemed back in stock on their own site.

      Based on my live experiences with BBTS, I think that their JUMF 2019 Official Stage video gives a good-sounding but realistic impression of their live sound. Newer live recordings can also be found on youtube, but they are fancam quality.

    • @MaartenT
      @MaartenT 5 дней назад

      @NemusVetus I can't say for sure because the couple of fancams weren't the best and one of them was a miniscule venue with only 4 vocalists/dancers that barely fit on the stage (so no real instruments), but they might be playbacking (they certainly have backing track vocals). It is tough to say for sure though because the one where I noticed it was a festival and the cam was very far in the back. Both harshes sounded a bit too "perfect"/the same as the record to be completely live but they might mix both live and backingtracks. The cleans are without question mixed with backing tracks on most of what I have seen. That said, I saw one where they shouted for one of the members birthday and the low growls she did there must have been live if they don't use a kind of pitch-shifter on the mic. They sounded pretty good actually. Kudos to them if they are mostly doing this live. As far as the band overall goes, I personally could loose the dancing and the J-Pop/Idol melodies, but I guess that comes with the teritory of them basically being an alt idol group. I will check out some more and probably will get a DVD regardless because I am somewhat curious now (I will most likely only check it once but that's ok).

    • @MaartenT
      @MaartenT 5 дней назад

      @@react-o-mat You know how I am, I am bothered by the production on the newest album (and the previous single) by Nemophila with how ultra processed it sounds (and not a little, the people involved suck at mixing as the drums and bass are clipping constantly). I am also not surprised that you don't notice the production as much as a Babymetal fan (I don't mean that in a negative way whatsoever). From what I can tell Broken By The Scream seems to be a mix of a couple of things you love: the type of Babymetal alt idol/kawaii metal sound mixed with heavier harsh vocals and a death metal like instrumentation like let's say Revocation. Talking about Revocation, I got the album you mentioned on Ears To The East (the one you showed the cover of) a couple of months ago and I like it. Not something I go to constantly as I tend to like black metal more than death metal, but I have listened to it a couple of times now and I keep liking it more.

    Well, I guess I can't blame them since they are a Korean Alt Idol/Pop group, but yeah this is too Pop for me as well. The 十 means 10 in Japanese (and Chinese, kanji are Chinese characters), 六 means 6 (also in both languages). 夜 means night/evening among other things. Apparently the title would translate to 16 day old moon ( いざよい in kana) and it is pronounced as Izayoi. The track is probably among my least favourite of the album, but I still really like it and I think the different styles on each track actually helps this album. I certainly hear some folky undertones, I do enjoy some folk/neofolk though like Tenhi (Finland), Wardruna (Norway), Nest (Finland), I actually discovered all 3 of them over 20 years ago when trying out different styles of metal (both Wardruna and Nest have members that were in black metal bands).

I can at least sometimes see weirdly translated text nowadays when I play RPGs or Visual Novels. I will get there eventually. She can also read a bunch of Korean hangul characters as well although not that well as she stopped learning Korean when she started learning Chinese. I know she has been learning Finnish as well. I honestly think she has all the language genes I left behind when I was born. I still listen to those neofolk bands regularly as they are some of the bands I use to relax before going to bed. I listened to way more of them back in the day, especially when I was really getting into folk metal and when I started getting into black metal, but I don't listen to most of them that often any more (especially the folk metal ones). Some of them I put on every once in a while out of nostalgia. I think a band that is also pretty folky and is closely related to Nightwish nowadays is Wintersun. I wouldn't call them folk metal, but they have folky elements (the lead vocalist/writer used to be in the folk metal band Ensiferum before forming Wintersun). Some of the members are now in Nightwish as well (Kai is the drummer of Wintersun and the bassist of Wintersun Jukka joined Nightwish when Marko left). The other guitarist of Wintersun plays for Megadeth as well nowdays. Wintersun itself used to be Melodic Death Metal with black and folkish elements, but they have gotten way more symphonic and closer to Nightwish in that sense. They are heavier though and use both cleans and harshes.

    About the song Aka Kagachi, Hazukitold this during an interview : "The track "Akakagachi - AKA KAGACHI," inspired by Iwami Kagura. I am from the Iwami region and have watched Iwami Kagura since I was young. There’s a performance called "Orochi," and I wondered if I could turn its worldview into a song. The words used in Kagura are incredibly complex, and even if you look them up in a dictionary, you often won’t find their meaning. I watched Kagura performances and interpreted their meaning in my own way to craft the lyrics. The melodies I create are catchy, and I take great care with the guitar riffs. This time, I tried to express Kagura's worldview through music. While creating the track, I emphasized imagery and emotion. I worked hard to capture the sacred atmosphere of Kagura in the sound. It’s a pretty intense song, but the chorus is catchy, so I hope people will give it a listen."

    If even you are complaining about the autotune, there's almost no chance that I'm going to like it. In fairness, it's no worse than what's on a lot of Gacharic Spin's early music, and they went on to produce two of my all-time favourite releases in W and Ace. It's an artistic choice that I hate, but it's nothing worse than that.

    • @MaartenT

      I think it's "worse", but not by a lot compared to some of the very autotuned early GS tracks. Some GS tracks are really savage in their use of autotune. It's present until at least their Kakuhen album, but probably G-litter as well (I own that one, but I hardly listen to it). The weird thing is that I actually have gotten to love some of the autotuned tracks by GS (Sekira Liar comes to mind), I don't know why because I absolutely hate that effect, but for some reason GS makes it work for me in a lot of cases. Maybe it's just the amount of times I heard it or something or because I know they don't have to rely on it to sound good live.

    • @react-o-mat

      @@kicorse Interesting to hear GS used that type of effect earlier, but while I haven't heard those songs yet, I'm glad they evolved past that. I mean they still use tons of vocal effects that are just way more interesting than this weird over-autotune and well like I said in the video, it can work, but not for a part like this where it's meant to have some impact 😅

    The moment the autotune kicked in, it was too much for me. I am very scared for the rest of the album because it seems to get worse/more over the top every track. It's unfortunate because while it sounds very electronic (I am pretty sure those are programmed drums), I do like the more metal/punky parts and I am not too bothered by the synthy parts (in contrast to PassCode tracks), but damn that autotune sounds absolutely terrible. But I guess they at least don't try to hide the fact that their vocals are touched up. (I actually just heard a small amount of autotune in Band-Maids Matchless Gum Live video, which I love, and I am a bit annoyed by it, crazy that I never caught that before).

    The most perfect way to fully assimilate a work of art like the concept album "QOTM" is to perceive the work done by DPA in presenting this masterpiece to the public for the first time at their performance at the Lunario because they are not just "studio musicians", therefore to fully appreciate them you have to see how they work with each other and in front of a live crowd… And believe me, their performance was truly sublime. You don't want to miss it!! It's not without reason that for many of us it is the best album of the band. It will become a cult album... Without a doubt. Thanks and greetings from México!! 🇲🇽 🤘😁✌️ .

    Perhaps my favourite Cő Shu Nie song (though it might be Gray). I love the simultaneously catchy and weird and chorus, especially in contrast with the bass-driven everything else. I hadn't seen the video. I'm not sure I know what Dream-pop is but I think it's too much about creating an atmosphere for an energetic song like this to qualify. A Japanese song that I absolutely love and (possibly incorrectly) consider to be quite dream-poppy is "sway, fadeaway" by Spool.

    I'm not sure if this song of anothers of Cö shu Nie can be called Dream Pop, but at least I can recommend u some artists that have dream pop/shoegaze style in their songs that are so experimental and have some weird sounds that maybe u can enjoy. 1.- "The Novembers", a Japanese alternative rock band. I recommend you hear their last album and "At the beginning" album that have some interesting songs (specially Rainbow), and I think no one in YT has reacted before to that band. My favorite song of their is 「かたちあるもの、ぼくらをたばねて」. 2.- Luxvanta, a Chilean band that explores different sounds like shoegaze, dream pop, alternative metal, electronic, ambient and more. They have 5 singles at the moment. I recommend you all of them, specially "Ophelia" and "Megalofobia" + "Requiem".

    I enjoyed this one, but I love slapping bass to begin with and this track is really bass driven. As far as the vocals go, there is some production/doubling on it that I can live without but overall it is pretty clean and I like the sound overall. Honestly, I like this track so much that I wish all their stuff was like this. I talked about Dream Pop in one of the comments, this track is not Dream Pop to me (the vocals are similar though), it was specifically that one part in that one track. And again, I am not a specialist in Pop genres whatsoever, the track where I heard the term Dream Pop was "好芻(SUSU) - Blue boat", the whole Gakkari EP has this sound actually. Edit: just wikipediad Dream Pop and it seems to be a subgenre of alternative rock, not pop. So I don't know if the track I mentioned fits that bill (I might be completely off the mark with how Dream Pop sounds). Hopefully some other people know more about it than I do. The couple of artists I do recognize in the list on wikipedia are post-rock/shoegaze bands to my ears.

      @@react-o-mat It is very poppy for the stuff I typically listen to, but I like that EP. It relaxes me for some reason so I put it on every once in a while before going to bed. There is no way I would have heard it or listened to it if it wasn't one of the side projects of the Tricot lead vocalist. I still think it is pretty cool though overall, I listen to it more than I do to her other poppy side project and Cluppo.
