Yea Champ, you have to check out the live version from their site, 02/14/2020! They take an already great song and make it PHENOMENAL!! A must see. And yea they are a Legit great band with great musicians, great singers and they can flat write!!
Edit: Akane (drummer) is one of the best drummers in the world, she is a beast.
Definitely check out any of their songs live...One of the few bands that are better live (depending on the quality of the video) and thats saying something considering their music is already ridiculously amazing.

Band-Maid love throwing in little Easter eggs that only other musicians seem to catch. And they almost always do something different on the second verse musically just to switch it up.
Suggestions on BM songs to check out next: Dice, Blooming and Moratorium (live). Although you can’t really go wrong with any of their songs.
Good?? They are arguably the best hard Rock band on the planet today (IMO, they are the best ever in my 64 years on this planet)
Over 90 songs in their catalog and not a stinker in the bunch.
But you've only seen their music video, wait till you see them live!!!!!!
As for recommendations, just search for band-maid on RUclips and go for it ... I'd recommend live performances except maybe for a few of their newer songs like Rinne, Bubble, Blooming, Dragon Cries (and their incredible Band-Maiko stuff which they pull out as an April Fool's video for their fans every April 1, pandemic not withstanding) which are too recent to have pro-shot live versions (but there are some fan cam videos out there as well that despite not having pro level sound still sound incredible and show that this band is for real with no gimmicks other than the maid outfits!?)
Lead guitarist Kanami is the one who writes all of their music. They have dropped 6 albums so far and almost everything since their song “Alone” from their 3rd album, have been arranged and composed by the band themselves.
Kanami is quite the genius songwriter as they pretty much dropped an album a year since their debut in 2013, with each one consisting around 10 to 15 tracks.
And majority of them are very well written. BM diehard fans have a belief that they can only ever have good songs and great ones and in my personal experience it is quite close to the truth as they are just very consistent in their “Band maid sound” and they add in enough variations to keep it fresh.
So, if you happen to like one of them you’re most likely going to like 95% of them.
From their interviews, it seems that their previous label kept rejecting everything Kanami wrote before “Alone” so I’m guessing all that frustration eventually blew up the Genius in her lmao.
Btw her along with the drummer Akane and bassist MISA are all professionally trained musicians who have been playing multiple instruments from as young as 4 years old. They’re in their late 20s now so its about 2 decades of experience.
This core instrumental trio is definitely top tier. The rhythm guitarist Miku who is also the main lyricist and band founder, started learning guitar under Kanami after Saiki took over as the main vocalist.
Miku is lucky to find kanami, akane and misa. But they are super lucky for miku to find them because miku is able and willing to do what they are lacking so they can focus on their expertise.

I also prefer Alone and Yolo music vids. Mixes of the live versions don't do those songs justice imo.

I only discovered this band 3 weeks ago and I have been obsessed with them ever since. I have talked them up to people at work and every day I have to watch a bunch of their videos. They are so good and one of the best bands in my 58 years. Do go down this pigeon hole. You won't regret it. Po!
Kanami, the lead guitarist and main musical arranger for the band is the riff Queen ... No, emperoress ... She layers new stuff every chorus and verse, you'll never hear the same lazy progressions in a song!!

year later, maybe 14 months? after discovering the Maids, I keep watching this (and the succesive Champ reactions) because it's the closest I can get to that moment of " Wait. What? Oh wow. Oh wow oh wow oh wow OOOOOFFFF HOLY CRAP WHERE HAS THIS BAND BEEN ALL MY LIFE?"
Band maid is absolutely amazing! Their live performances are fantastic to watch!!! Domination live is great and a personal favourite song would be Puzzle or endless Story!

Discovered them about 9 months ago and now one of my favorites. They are just a lot of fun to listen to. Extraordinarily talented musicians playing extremely well constructed songs with choruses that are catchy as hell. Have fun!

The only "swing and a mini miss" you have on this one is you got the MV (which is great as well) but the LIVE version from 2/14/2020 is even better. You will hear folks say they are even better live, and they are. My wife and I saw them in San Francisco in 2018 and yes, they are even better live. Really more hard "classic" rock with metal/punk/jazz/about anything tossed in though. And tons of fun/stage presence as well as being about as cute as they come. 🤘
Furthermore they write and compose their songs by themselves!

The Feb 14, 2020 live version of this song is really great too... They cooked up a change mid song and pulled it off flawlessly.

Great reaction, but the MV doesn't do the song justice. "Domination" live (Line Cube Shibuya 2020) has a multi instrument solos breakdown & it's absolutely killer. Kudos.

The song "Dice" will steal your soul.
One thing you will notice in Band-Maid songs is that the 2nd verse is almost always different from the first. They throw in variations and embellishments.

also pay very close attention to the bass-player Misa. She is almost always going off even if she's in the background. Honestly you can listen to most of their songs many times and hear something new each time.
That’s probably my favorite thing about this band because this is one of the only bands I’ve ever seen/heard that does switch up the verses. It takes balls to even attempt it because you could potentially write yourself into a corner if you blow your load of riffs to the detriment of other songs your working on.

I saw this reaction when it was new and I'm coming back to it again. This was not the first B-M song I heard, far from it, but I do recall the feeling.
Dude, they have over 80 songs, all amazing, just waiting for you to analyse. They are a one-in-a-life-time band that have so much flexibility and range. The sound, and feel of each of their songs are so complex and distinct, it's unbelievable that they could churn out an album a year for 6 years straight. I've listened to their albums over and over, and it doesn't get old at all. Never has their been a band this capable. Incredibly talented band.
It's fun coming back to this video, after all this time, because now I know who Haley Williams is. Love her!
Live versions of everything are always awesome, especially their live shows at Shiubuya from Feb 2020. "Real Existence" and "Dice" are great. I always find something else to like in the well-rounded "Blooming." Who knew you could make happy, catchy hard rock? It's about perfect.
Band Maid is amazing and I can almost never turn them up loud enough. They are THAT good. Dice, Play, Non-fiction days, they have a lot of very good stuff. If you can find Moratorium, OMG, one of my favorite.
Careful with j-rock and copyright strikes, Band Maid is usually ok with reactions.

Saw them live a couple of years ago and haven't stopped smiling since. These girls are the real deal, they write and arrange all their own stuff now and produce some of the best feel-good rock around today. I've been a musician most of my life and, like you, I am amazed at the layers in their music.
You must listen to some of their live stuff. Try Puzzle, Turn Me On, Moratorium, Real Existence.....that should be ok for starters!😁

They are very BRAVE in terms of creativity . Usually you can make 5 songs from the materials of this song . But they put everything into it just because they are very confident to make other new songs with new musical ideas .

You asked yourself whether it was harmonics or slides in that transition spot. Yes she is going down the scale with harmonics, 7th fret, very fast played.
The "8th slide" you mentioned before the 2nd solo is a 3 string slide with some very fast played notes.
Their songs are always high-energy, melodic, catchy, mood-lifting, creativ, with so much to discover if you listen closely. Great songwriters and musicians. I love them.

Wow thanks for the constant mentioning of Hayley Williams because the first band maid song I heard “Dice” (check that one out too!) instantly reminded me of early Paramore. Since then of course I realized they are their own unique sound but it was my first impression. Also I feel like the main singer Saiki’s voice sounds more deeper and stronger in the live videos!

Don’t know if anyone already mentioned it, but you hit on one of their key “tricks” - they always change up the 2nd verse with different riffs or drum patterns when compared to the first. They aren’t content just to repeat the same thing. Also, they are just flat out awesome. Akane (drums) is an absolute beast!

Probably the best Band Maid Reaction EVER because it captures exactly how I was slayed by them two years ago when I first heard them..........Saiki is amazing I am a 68 year old former jazz fusion prog rock drummer and Akane constantly amazes me. Misa is incredibly inventive. Kanami is a musical prodigy
They like to incorporate little sounds here and there in their songs. Their live version of Domination is much better so do try it. The best hard rock back in current times.

I'm with your brother, Good reaction! You have not even scratched the surface with this band. I have been sucked down the Band-maid rabbit hole for some time now and I cannot see myself getting out. Not only are they TOP NOTCH musicians but damn good songwriters. I think they are not capable of producing a bad tune.
Their live stuff is amazing. I would check out "Play (Live version)", "Moratorium", "Puzzle", "Alone", "Real Existence", "Dice", "Blooming" there are a few to start with. They do have a vast number of videos did not want to list them all. They are all good and worth checking out. Someone said: "The best Band-Maid song is the last one you heard" and I agree. These Band-Maidens are the REAL DEAL!

For me, I found, quite by accident their first Music Video "Thrill" and fell in LOVE, and it just gets better and better. As some have told others, you have gone down the BAND-MAID rabbit hole, hold on and enjoy the trip!
I feel you... I watched Babymetal for a goof, liked it.. saw a bunch of maid girls in the recommendations... sure why not we're already down this road I guess. Next thing I know I have a new favorite band.
I am 66 year old metal/rock head, I discovered this band about a year ago I’m obsessed they are not an act, they are a real rock/metal band there is no weak link in this band , tight and each ones skill set is amazing, you’ve got to listen to Domination live. It takes alot to get me excited because I grew up going to early Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Steppenwolf , Deep Purple etc etc, love new talent that pushes envelope and boundaries, Exploring this band is going to be a great journey, my bucket list is to see them live, try Dice, Moratorium, Puzzle ,Take Me Higher, Play-then you have about 75 more to explore-🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

NO gimmick with the maids. bassist misa and drummer akane attended tokyo school of music. lead guitarist kanami was a singer /songwriter. she is the queen of riffage that writes almost all of their music.extraordinary songwriter whose changes during songs are legendary.cute rythym guitarist miku and vocalist saiki collaborate on lyrics but most by miku. they're kickin' ass and takin' names!

People hear the name BAND MAID and they think it's a joke, they see a picture of them in their maid outfits and think that it has to be a joke. They assume from the picture that it must be a "cute girl group" that some A&R person threw together. But if you can actually convince them to LISTEN they discover BAND MAID is LEGIT!!
They are five talented puzzle pieces that fit together perfectly. The write and arrange most all their songs (last three albums was 100%) create beautiful musical landscapes, and are just KILLER live!
So some people might think I am being funny, or that I'm crazy, when I say BAND MAID is the best rock band on the planet, but I am DEAD SERIOUS! 🎶🙂🎶
