I've listened to this song over and over for my whole adult life, and yet it never gets old. I'm 70 now and I still hear something I hadn't previously noticed, each & every time.
A rare combination; a masterful guitarist, a masterful lyricist, a masterful percussionist and a masterful pianist all get together by a twist of fate ; they coalesce and together - create magic. ❤️
I graduated from high school in 1983. Stairway To Heaven was the theme of our senior prom that year. I might be old, but I got to see all the really cool bands live!!! Including Led Zeppelin!
You just listened to a masterpiece for both the ears and the heart and soul. A moving classic that will never be laid to rest. I cry every time. Such emotion and power in Robert Plant's voice. I get chills as the song begins to transition. It serenades and then it rocks you to heaven. A beautiful experience I'm glad to share with you Josh.✌🎶
My take is similar to yours Josh. For me this is about the pursuit of happiness. What they are saying is you can’t buy it and if you chase it, you won’t find happiness. But if you listen (to the whispering wind), if you are still (like a rock) and you find peace within yourself and the World around you (when all is one and one is all), you may find it. American author Nathaniel Hawthorne once wrote “Happiness is as a butterfly 🦋 which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp but if you sit down quietly, may alight upon you”. To me this is the essence of what the song is about.
Listening to this song for the first time is quite an experience. I'll give you a couple of intense ones: Since I've been Loving You, and In my Time of Dying. There's plenty more but make sure to keep those in your list. Stick to studio versions at least for first listens. Also... more ELO dude :)
Hey Josh, really loving your reaction videos! Too bad, that it seems you stopped doing them.. Really a joy to see you react to music and really feeling it. Much love
Gee your last song was Yes, Close to the Edge (I left a post there about Yes) now Led Zeppelin! Some of my all time favorite bands so I have subscribed. This song is on Led Zeppelin 4 a rock and roll masterpiece. On volume 4 try Black Dog, Rock and Roll, The Battle of Evermore, When the Levee Breaks. On Volume 2 try; Whole Lotta Love, Heartbreaker, Living Loving Maid. Led Zeppelin are one of the three founders of heavy rock. The other two are Deep Purple and Back Sabbath. So if you like heavy rock here is an intro for Deep Purple. Try these songs Burn from the Burn Album, From Machine Head, Highway star, Smoke on the Water, Lazy and Space Truckin' then from Deep Purpule in Rock try Child in Time, Black night and Flight of the Rat. I hope you really enjoy the ride through these great songs, we did!
When the Levee Breaks and Since I've Been Loving You might be their best, but Whole Lotta Love, Immigrant Song (the live video is great), along with Kashmir would round out a good first survey of Zeppelin. Strongly concur with commenter below who urges studio versions; there's phenomenal live stuff on the dvd compilation and a few other recordings, but one of the joys of Zeppelin as they matured was the construction of the songs, the layering, the production. A (possibly contentious) note on lyrics: Don't worry about the meaning of Stairway. You get everything you need from Plant's astounding delivery. The actual words are ad-hoc hippie/college poetry, nicely put together for the song, but nothing deeper than that. Of course many people read into them what they want, in that regard they're very good lyrics, but they are not one of life's great lessons. I feel this way about a great many-but by no means all- of Plant's words. His delivery sells the songs, but especially in the early days they were problematic on several levels: uncredited borrowing of words and the afore-mentioned hippie/Tolkein fare foremost among them. from a whisper to a scream) a motherfucking rock and roll ruckus, some of which is deservedly considered among the great works of rock music. Cheers!
This song has been number one, or at least top three lists for about 50 years now. The live of this & many of their songs are even better, solos are longer & Plant adds extra lyrics. That’s why the each are the GOATS, & together the GODS of music.
Just so you know at one time Jimmy Page and Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin were going to join Alan White and Chris Squire of Yes were going to join together to form a group called XYZ (cross Yes Zeppelin). It was shortly after Yes had broken up and John Bonham of LZ had died. Plant left the merger early but Jimmy Page hung around and there was a group of demos to come out of those sessions. I have them and I believe you can still find them on RUclips. They never formed the group but the demos live on. Yes eventually re-formed and the remaining members of Zeppelin very occasionally got together to perform the one off concert once in a blue moon.
I think it's about greed and the mistaken belief that money can buy anything and that you have a chance of changing your belief, but in the end she's like a rock that doesn't roll (unchanged).
I first heard it as a teenager when it came out in '73 I think, but yeah.....there was a lot of excitement about this album with friends, especially older ones. Every house party from then on had this album spinning at one time or another...........legendary moments.
Thank you 😃 ( don't worry to much about the meaning of the lyrics, that has been the subject of much debate for the last 50yrs and probably will be debated for the next 50+yrs lol)
I love, love, love Led Zeppelin. "Kashmir," "Immigrant Song" and "Stairway to Heaven" are among my favorites, as are "All of My Love" and "Fool in the Rain." And yes, STH is a masterpiece.
you mentioned "pan flute" and you're almost correct...it's a synthesizer programmed(or whatever they do) to make it sound like a flute/recorder, etc. Excellent reaction. PEACE.
All of their first 7 studio albums are masterpieces (or, at a minimum, each album has at least one masterpiece on it). Check out every song on their first album -- it is essentially a "live" album done in the studio and has a rawness and energy to it that they never quite recaptured (though they surpassed it in many ways).
You should check them out live At MSG in 73. Its a movie they did and to me it shows them at there best. You will notice the do alot of improv on stage songs can go twice as long You need to see this one live and Since I been Loving You and the Rain Song you wont be sorry. They own the stage like few others can
The song “Stairway To Heaven “ was written about Somerset Belenoff cousin to Queen Elizabeth. Who is Lady Somerset Belenoff? The women of infinite power and authority? The woman that has the most powerful people in the world scared? How much power has she got? Bohemian Grove, Organization Structure, Cloak And Dagger, Somerset. Be forewarned though, because it’s about Lady Somerset Belenoff, just by listening to this song can possibly put you in grave danger?
My interpretation is the song is about the choice between materialism and materialistic power or connection to nature and the divine. Which will lead to heaven?
Money can't buy happiness, and 16th Century INDULGENCES did not BUY their deceased loved ones into heaven. There is only ONE way. Robert Plant has always maintained the opening lyrics just came to him, he doesn't know WHAT they mean. The rest of the lyric that he did 'work on' is typical Love & Peace sentiment to 'fit the music' with a curious mention that the 'Stairway' that she bought was worthless... You can't BUY your way into heaven. Just MY interpretation. Peace.
Glad you found one of the masterpieces in the music world. I'm sure now you've gone down the YT reaction path we'll lead to more. Maybe react next to Creedence Clearwater Revival: Have You Ever Seen The Rain.
Please react to Led Zepplin Whole Lotta Love and Over Hills Far away..! Also recommend you react to Janis Joplin Ball and Chain Live at Monterey Pop Fest.. Great review !
You have only touched the surface of their genius! The Are the Greatest of All Time! No debate! 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Check out the live 73 Garden concert. It’s the Key Board, being played by the genius of John Paul Jones. No flute, or any other kind of instrument. Only four dudes. Robert Plant-Vocals, Jimmy Page guitar, John Paul Jones Bass & Key boards, and last but not least John Bonham aka BONZO! Always check them out live if you can...they are even better live...if that is even possible!
Hey stranger. Been a spell. When I first ran into you, you had like 5 subs, lol. Look at you now man. I suggested RUSH to you and the rest is history, eh. Good for you dude. Being you're a drummer I would suggest you listen to the LED ZEPPELIN song, MOBY DICK. Then if you want, go listen to the song, DER TROMMLER, aka NEIL PEART DRUM SOLO, Frankfurt, Germany 2004. THEN go find this song by JETHRO TULL : Conundrum, Bursting out live album And keep up with your drumming. Peace.
You have touch on it . you can't buy your way into heaven the piper is God he's sending a message thru whom ever he will. your right about the two paths, an with a word she can get what she came for, the word is repent of are sins. for those that stand long, long against the anti-christ 666 at 777 the real Christ will return to defeat satan .the forest is us an the third heaven an earth will be. heaven is where ever God is!
It's of course about Lucifer, and His ability to use the feminine as an irresistible, lure, to lust, and materialism, and vanity. Ultimately there has to be a reorganization. Death The last line is a Call To Honor, to be unmovable, and immune to mind control. A Cry for Patient Endurance, with Loving Kindness. An Age Old Theme
GREATEST ROCK SONG EVER COMPOSED!!! ROCK ON!
I've listened to this song over and over for my whole adult life, and yet it never gets old. I'm 70 now and I still hear something I hadn't previously noticed, each & every time.

Undoubtedly, a timeless masterpiece and definitely one of the best rock songs ever written and performed. 🏆👏💪

I absolutely loved your reaction to this! ❤ New Subscriber. So glad you discovered this masterpiece
I first heard it as a teenager when it came out in '73 I think, but yeah.....there was a lot of excitement about this album with friends, especially older ones. Every house party from then on had this album spinning at one time or another...........legendary moments.
One of the best bands to come out of the UK.
"...And as we wind on down the road, our shadows taller than our souls..."
Thank you 😃

AN ABSOLUTE MUST SEE/HEAR/EXPERIENCE,, LED ZEPPELIN "SINCE I'VE BEEN LOVING YOU" 1973 LIVE AT MADISON SQUARE GARDENS
I love, love, love Led Zeppelin. "Kashmir," "Immigrant Song" and "Stairway to Heaven" are among my favorites, as are "All of My Love" and "Fool in the Rain." And yes, STH is a masterpiece.
Oh, and add "D'yer Mak'er" to that list.
Try Bohemian Rhapsody, QUEEN
Try "Nobodys Fault but Mine"
You'll flip over The Rain Song.
Occasionally they step outside their normal pattern. Try D'yer Maker.
you mentioned "pan flute" and you're almost correct...it's a synthesizer programmed(or whatever they do) to make it sound like a flute/recorder, etc. Excellent reaction.
PEACE.
Live, I think it was a synth/keyboard. But the studio version was played on a recorder, multiple tracks.
And now on to Queen's - Bohemian Rhapsody and Elton John's - Tiny Dancer!
Watch this one live 1973 at MSG! Do their live performances!! Killer!
TRANCENDEU UM SECULO A SUA FRENTE

Good luck with that
She is trying to buy salvation
Or then there’s the Rolf Harris version…
