They play Rock, Blues, Folk, Funk, Reggae, Jazz, Hard Rock and Soft Balads. They can and do it all. Try their song, "Since I've been loving you" it's a Blues rock fusion. Awesome.
This is the first time I've ever watched you, and I just subscribed for Zeppelin. Seriously, do yourself a favor and start from the first song on the first album and go thru their whole catalogue, as many have suggested. I assure you, you won't regret it, and we'll be here for it. With each song, you'll never stop being surprised. You will find that they cannot be pigeon-holed into any single category, and they most definitely are not heavy metal. Their music is extremely diverse and it just never gets old. I know what I'm talking about, I've been listening to them daily for 50+ years. Simply the greatest band ever!
For people that don't know Classic rock have a perception of it being non sense. Classic rock has everything! This song is poetic in abstract and they have tons of styles that can not be contained in one box. Check out Immigrant song from them, preferably live 1972, I'm sure you'll recognize it
Led Zeppelin was not a heavy metal band, although they were considered the progenitors of metal. They were a hard rock band, heavy on the blues, but even so, their music was incredibly creative and versatile. They kind of created their own music genre. One thing is sure, they were the greatest rock band in history. Because of the breadth of their catalogue, it's difficult to give just a couple of song recommendations. One has to listen to many to get a full understanding of what they were about. In fact, if you see compiled lists of "essential" Led Zeppelin, they are often 40-50 songs long. I suppose one way to go about it is to look at the track list of a compilation album called "Mothership", but even then, many excellent songs were left off the album because it was impossible to include them all. With Led Zeppelin, setting the needle on the first track of the first album and working your way through each album is really the best way to go about hearing both the songs that are commonly recommended, and all the hidden gems that are not. This is considered to be a progressive folk rock song, and one of the best ever written. It would be interesting if you were to compare the studio version to a live performance, perhaps from the 1973 Madison Square Garden concert. It was superb. Enjoyed your reaction, thanks!
@@lleew23 I don't know who you're speaking about when you say "we". Clearly, others had zero problems with the length of my comment (at this moment, more "likes" than any other). Well, Led Zeppelin is a band of many different "styles". From Blues to Rock and everything in between. But the most important for me is that the 4 members are all exceptional talented musicians and they took us on many different journeys at the time, well actually until today. I am glad you liked it!! Nice reaction, keep it going, cheers from Berlin 👍☘️😎
Best band ever. And incredibly versatile too. By far the best way to react to zep is to go from track 1 album 1 and simply do the journey. They were monsters right out of the gate!! Then they just kept going
The thing about great music with esoteric lyrics is it doesn’t tell you what to think. It asks you, “what do you think”. This song has meant many different things to me over the past 50 years. The personal interpretation depends on my circumstance. This is what makes a song timeless, and boundless. Subbed for your journey down the LZ path and hopefully, other great rock bands and songs.
Check out "Kashmire", "Whole Lotta Love", "When the Levee Breaks", "Black Dog", "Ramble on", and anything from any album, you will be enlightened and not dissappointed.
If anyone thinks Led Zeppelin is Heavy Metal, has never heard them before! They were their own genre in my opinion, because there was no one like them! Blues, Rock, Folk, Classical, Soul etc.
"Battle Of Evermore" has even more amazing lyrics "Bring the balance back". "No Quarter" is like a subset of that songs message of "they carry news that must get through" "The Rain Song" which portrays the idea that we all must weather the storms of our life, and that all evil things have come through the division of goodness "The Mystery of the Quotient" "Kashmir" which speaks of the quest for deeper understanding "No provision but an open face, along the straits of fear", and most of the rest of their catalogue about love, and loss, betrayal, and reconciliation. The term/band name, Led Zeppelin, comes from a derogatory statement from Keith Moon of The Who, who said that they would go down like a lead balloon.
Hey just watched your reaction to zeppelin my favourite band from aged 12/13,I'm now 67,I'm a English man Billy, if you go into zeppelin it's a massive rabbit whole, they played hard rock, soft rock, acoustic stuff, ballads, God even reggae on one album, hey please please don't get me wrong cos it's not being big headed, if you listen to what I'm saying you won't go far wrong, to get a taste of zeppelin react to stairway to heaven the live version from madison Square gardens new York, from the same show since I've been loving you, most black American guys and girls have said they didn't know white people could sing the blues like that, always makes me laugh, the rain song live same show, and one they always love is when the level breaks, hope you do watch and react to these, you take care big man, keep up the great work, English Billy.
"I also wanna see what this song is about", ROFL, people have been trying to agree on that for 50 years and the only thing they agree on is that it's brilliant!
Great review. Now do yourself a favor and watch Heart perform Stairway to Heaven live at the Kennedy Center Honors - Full Version - while Led Zeppelin is being honored and attending. The drummer is the son of the original Zeppelin drummer, John Bonham who’s passed a while ago. Epic tribute. Big Led Zepplin fan from their time here. We would smoke up, play it LOUD, and spend hours deciphering it. I saw Led Zeppelin in concert in 1969 and 1970. You have to listen to “Kashmir”. Also suggested is “When the Levee Breaks” and “Since I’ve Been Loving You” - the live version from Madison Square Garden in 1963
You will continually be blown away. Just start with their 1st album and go in order. Hear it as we did. Definitely dive down the Pink Floyd rabbit hole as well. This genre is deep and wide and can go on for a lifetime.
When the levee breaks is a cover of a true story about the 1927 Mississippi flood. The drum intro is sampled in tons of hip hop and the harmonica by the singer Robert Plant sets a mood that fits the song perfectly. BLUES to the bone!
The lead singer, Robert Plant, has stated in interviews that he really dislikes the label of heavy metal to describe Led Zeppelin, since a good percentage of their songs are acoustic. The band is the greatest musical ensemble, as each of its members are the best at what they do... We will likely never see another band that even comes close to their equal.
The best insight I can give to the lyric of this song is don't dig too deep. This song was written in 1970. Robert Plant was presented with this epic composition and tasked with writing lyrics to it. He was 22 years old. He made the lyrics intentionally vague so that listeners could take from it whatever they wanted. Their music is incredibly diverse; among their most popular songs are Whole Lotta Love, Kashmir, Immigrant Song, and When the Levee Breaks. Among my favorites are How Many More Times, The Rover and In My Time of Dying. Check out their live stuff; that is a whole different experience!
Best thing to do with Zeppelin to start with the first album (called LZ 1, but actually it's just Led Zeppelin, 1969) and go through every track in chronological order. You will not be disappointed. The first 2 albums are more electric blues based (but amped up amazingly), but there's still plenty of variety.
As has been said, they have a variety of styles, including softer songs like this. The Rain Song is another. Going to California is another folksy one that is soft and seductive. The Battle of Evermore and No Quarter are creepy and mysterious. That's just a slice of their genres.
Love that you’re falling in love with LED Zeppelin in a sort of way. You should start at the beginning and do a complete discography as a series!! Thanks for the share!
First off, great reaction! Your " stereotypes " are just that. I used to stereotype Motown until I actually listened with open ears, and at that point, I fell in love. I came to invite you to the wonders of Pink Floyd. Try the song "Comfortably Numb " and do the live version from the Pulse concert 1994. Like deep lyrics? Like beautiful music that sticks with you? It's all there. You really can't go wrong with bands like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Doors. The Rolling Stones and many more. But I'd love to see you try out Pink Floyd. God bless my friend.
More Led Zeppelin songs: When the Levee Breaks Traveling Riverside Blues Whole Lotta Love Hey hey what can I do Kashmir from 2007 So much to choose from..
As many have already mentioned, Led Zeppelin are often miscategorized as heavy metal. They may have been an antecedent of heavy metal, but they were always much more than hard rock and heavy metal. Regarding the name of the band, the story goes that the late drummer from The Who, Keith Moon, heard Jimmy Page's idea for a new band, and he allegedly said that this band was going to go down 'like a lead balloon.' Zeppelins were rigid airships that were used for a time at the beginning of the 20th century until the ill-fated flight of the Hindenburg disaster in 1937.(Zeppelin I and II reference the Hindenburg disaster on the album covers.) Hence, Le(a)d Zeppelin. The band took the 'a' out in order to remove any confusion about how to pronounce 'lead'.
This is Led Zeppelin’s most played & popular song, you need to listen to several others at least. They do several great blues/rock songs, the greatest band of all time.
Zeppelin could do it all - heavily influenced by the Blues as was most British Rock. Listen first to the studio versions - keep in mind much Rock music of the 70s was meant to be heard as complete albums not individual songs - so just start at the beginning - and Enjoy my friend !
The live version is much longer with one of the longest and BEST guitar SOLOS EVER!!!...Led Zeppelin are a hard rock band with songs such as "Whole Lotta Love", "Black Dog" and many others for you to check out...Stay cool.
Led Zeppelin isn’t heavy metal, they have some beautiful mellow songs too. The real talent is, that it’s no voice enhancement, it’s all 4 of them only.
Led Zeppelin the GOATS of rock. Wore out all ten albums. Nice reaction but didn't MLK say don't judge a band by its name. Enjoy the Zeppelin journey. You might enjoy the GOATS of prog, they're called Yes and a song called Roundabout is a good place to start your Yes journey 🙏🍁
No cap, Face melting in any genre is cool, just need someone to push you there. The rabbit hole you're about to discover will blow other circuit fuzes. Why we are here dude. Just got to share yours too! When the Levee Breaks, Black Dog, Dazed and Confused for getting more of the Led out. if you want to continue...
Zepplin and AC DC are rock bands. Not heavy metal. Greatest guitarist, drummer, bassist and singer ever in rock. Stairway is the greatest rock song ever. listen to the guitar and drums, listen to the way it was built starting slow speeding up through out, adding instruments. A masterpiece.
Whether this is the only Led Zeppelin song you ever hear, or if you listen to all 7 albums from front to back, to categorize the genre you are listening to so you can rest easy, know this: Led Zeppelin IS NOT Heavy Metal. Their music is called Hard Rock Blues mostly. If it’s Blues based, it’s Rock. AC/DC is also Hard Rock. Picture Big Hair bands of the 1980’s and now you’re talking heavy metal. They use crazy music scales. Van Halen, Ozzy Osborne, Def Leopard, etc. type of bands. But, not Zeppelin. Enjoy the rabbit hole. Zep is the greatest Rock band of all time. No competition, except to those who don’t know much.
Zeppelin has to many songs to pick one to listen to next. Your best bet is to start with the first album. You need to progress and grow with the band as we did 50+ years ago. Zeppelin isn’t medal
Obviously the "piper' is Satan, and the lady is deceived, and Satan calls for everyone to join him, but we all have our own decision to make in the matter whether to be drawn in by "gold" or, "To be a rock, and not to roll" or, to be guided by righteousness, and the high calling of God, in Christ Jesus. I could be completely wrong, but that has been my take for over 50 years.
I see literally none of that at all. I see a woman that is living a shallow life, but see choices for retribution and I see opportunities for learning. To be honest the only religious thing I see is the word heaven and I see that as allegorical rather literal.
I think we all get the head going side to side with eyes squinted when the band comes in! Everyone’s natural reaction. We can’t stop it!
LED ZEPPELIN, IS LABELED AS CLASSIC ROCK ! HEAVY METAL DIDN'T COME UNTIL LATER .
Welcome to the most diverse subtle musically textured band ever

INTERPRETATION
There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
>>Reference to Lord of the Rings - “all that glitters is not gold” - is repeatedly used as a motto for “don’t be fooled by appearances”
And she's buying a stairway to Heaven

When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
>>She thinks that if you can’t just buy spirituality, she’s special and the world will make special rules for her (ie: she’s a rich karen)
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to Heaven
There's a sign on the wall, but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings
>>>The signs are there that she’s wrong, but she doesn’t trust being them because they are telling her what she doesn’t want to hear.
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven
>>>If you just listen to nature, it will show you the truth

And as we wind on down the road
>>>As we go through life
Our shadows taller than our soul
>>>The “shadow” is the aspects of yourself you don’t like and refuse to acknowledge, our “dark side” - and it obscures knowledge of (is "taller than") our true selves (our souls). This is a classic western occult teaching. Also taught by Jung.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
>>>The lady is an image of a source of true teachings, - read “gold” for “divine”
And if you listen very hard
The truth will come to you at last
>>>If you try, you can hear the truth, which is....(next line)
When all are one, and one is all
>>>”All is one and one is all” is a classic statement of the highest form of spiritual consciousness. Said in Western Occultism, Hinduism, and Buddhism. It is said to describe what you experience as the highest spiritual experience possible.
To be a rock and not to roll
>>>To be solid, unbreakable, but not get pushed around by other people, other forces

The GOATS! 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
DEEP Rabbit Hole ! Welcome
Thanks for the Led Zeppelin
The greatest band ever
My favorite band since 69❤❤
Mum's a LEGEND
Whole Lotta Love next. Blow your mind...
This is a song of Hope.
Mom has good taste. ❤
Please react to OVER THE HILLS FAR WAY and Ramble on By Led Zeppelin
Ya, it took me awhile to appreciate this "finer" music from LZ.
Love that you’re falling in love with LED Zeppelin in a sort of way. You should start at the beginning and do a complete discography as a series!! Thanks for the share!
Minnesota Vikings awesome. Led Zeppelin is awesome.
'A rolling stone gathers no moss'....
GREATEST ROCK COMPOSITION/SONG/ANTHEM OF ALL TIME!! ROCK ON!!
They are rock blues, folk. Do more please. I think Since I've Been Loving You will blow your mind too.
You are going to have to do this live❤❤❤❤ to appreciate the Greatness ❤❤❤ you will get another experience ❤
Genius. That's all.
More Led Zeppelin songs: When the Levee Breaks
Traveling Riverside Blues
Whole Lotta Love
Hey hey what can I do
Kashmir from 2007
So much to choose from..
I really enjoyed seeing you discover this iconic song.
You may want to check out Kashmir, pretty heavy.
Try since ive been loving you live, from madison square garden 1973!
As many have already mentioned, Led Zeppelin are often miscategorized as heavy metal. They may have been an antecedent of heavy metal, but they were always much more than hard rock and heavy metal.
Regarding the name of the band, the story goes that the late drummer from The Who, Keith Moon, heard Jimmy Page's idea for a new band, and he allegedly said that this band was going to go down 'like a lead balloon.'
Zeppelins were rigid airships that were used for a time at the beginning of the 20th century until the ill-fated flight of the Hindenburg disaster in 1937.(Zeppelin I and II reference the Hindenburg disaster on the album covers.) Hence, Le(a)d Zeppelin. The band took the 'a' out in order to remove any confusion about how to pronounce 'lead'.
They do a really good job of the blues.
Never met two people who agreed on the meaning of this song. Privilege, commercialism, growth, personal choices? Sure there are more.
Listen to "Thank You" and "Babe I'm Gonna Leave" their range is huge
In tears already. 3:21
YES, "Close To The Edge" is my favorite band, and song.
The best band from the UK at a time when there were so many.
This is Led Zeppelin’s most played & popular song, you need to listen to several others at least. They do several great blues/rock songs, the greatest band of all time.
God.
Bless your mother
Zeppelin could do it all - heavily influenced by the Blues as was most British Rock. Listen first to the studio versions - keep in mind much Rock music of the 70s was meant to be heard as complete albums not individual songs - so just start at the beginning - and Enjoy my friend !
If you get a chance you should do a reaction to stairway to heaven live it longer and has some more to it and it’s a experience on its own
Some of the most hardcore metal bands have insane soft songs.
The live version is much longer with one of the longest and BEST guitar SOLOS EVER!!!...Led Zeppelin are a hard rock band with songs such as "Whole Lotta Love", "Black Dog" and many others for you to check out...Stay cool.
I urge you to dig deeper. Check out when the levee breaks
The lemon song
How many more times
You won't be disappointed
The Lemon Song was my bad girl song! Hahaha I'm glad my parents never really listened to the lyrics! LOL
Lucky you
Led Zeppelin isn’t heavy metal, they have some beautiful mellow songs too.
To step out of the realm of the expected , check out Black Sabbath “ It’s Alright “ from 1976
Zep will envelope you
Zepplin and AC DC are rock bands. Not heavy metal. Greatest guitarist, drummer, bassist and singer ever in rock. Stairway is the greatest rock song ever. listen to the guitar and drums, listen to the way it was built starting slow speeding up through out, adding instruments. A masterpiece.
Start at the first album 1alblum at a time you'll be blown away
If you're into metal & want to go down a different rabbit hole - try Dan Vasc singing Amazing Grace. Enjoyed your reaction!❤
Dude start with the first album, and then the next , and the next...Stairway came from Led Zeppelin 4.
Listen to the music, don't try to figure out the lyrics.
Zeppelin has to many songs to pick one to listen to next. Your best bet is to start with the first album. You need to progress and grow with the band as we did 50+ years ago. Zeppelin isn’t medal
going to tell everybody about ADDC
Please react to the Madison Square Garden Concert version of this song 1973 I think it was.
I am sure when you hear the Grateful Dead, they won't be anything like what you're expecting either.
Zeppelin was never a heavy metal band--they defy description except to say they made the greatest ROCK music of the 20th century.
Read what the Writer Robert Plant says is summary of Stairway To Heaven...Then what the other band members say....
Obviously the "piper' is Satan, and the lady is deceived, and Satan calls for everyone to join him, but we all have our own decision to make in the matter whether to be drawn in by "gold"
or, "To be a rock, and not to roll" or, to be guided by righteousness, and the high calling of God, in Christ Jesus. I could be completely wrong, but that has been my take for over 50 years.
I see literally none of that at all. I see a woman that is living a shallow life, but see choices for retribution and I see opportunities for learning. To be honest the only religious thing I see is the word heaven and I see that as allegorical rather literal.
Led Zeppelin were never heavy metal though they may have inspired that genre.
Check out Alice and Chains. my personal favorite.
There's no way to categorized Led Zeppelin they play multiple styles
