Probably my favourite album. Phil's drumming is absolutely core to it. Selling England uses lots of English myth etc in mourning what modern commercialisation (they reference the then new growth of supermarkets as the most obvious example) was doing to Britain's communities.

I was asked by a couple (in the 70's) to babysit their st bernard for a night. the husband gave me a tape with this album, steely dan's 'pretzel logic' on the flipside. was hooked on them both, immediately!

Bruford liked to improvise way too much for Genesis it wasn't a good fit, King Crimson on the other hand all they did was improvise so it was a great fit. I like Yes better than both bands, I think they got it just right for a few albums until Bill left. The album after Close To the Edge is yes's finest without Bruford in my opinion.

Alan White is an incredible drummer and I do love him too as a drummer but Yes just swings so much more with Bruford, to me there's a big difference in their sound.
