Great to see you Josh! This is a fantastic song by a brilliant band. I was introduced to them as a kid by my dad and it was the best way to influence a kids music taste. Those strings combined with rock and the vocals are just excellent. Love when you react to Elo!
I concur with your reaction. So catchy and once again, Jeff pulls out a great outro that contrasts with the feel of the rest of the song. There is not one crap song off this album.
There are so many songs to choose from, but if you are looking for one from an earlier album that is not in the mainstream then try Nobody's Child from the Eldorado album.
The “singing guitar” is either slide or string bending. Sometimes it’s hard to tell. You might want to react to the combo of “Eldorado Overture” and “Can’t Get It Out Of My Head (ELO’s first Top 10 Gold hit). It’s very dreamy.
In 1976, and before, if your film-camera pictures were taken using "slide film", you could have your holiday pictures developed into little stationary movie frames, and get a slide projector to show them all to your family and friends in a darkened room. :-)
He's playing slide guitar like one of his Beatles heroes George Harrison who was a great slide guitarist Do Ya was actually a song Jeff wrote for the group The Move in 1970 of. course you know The Move became ELO and the group performed it on their live shows . Jeff redid the song on the A New World's Record album in response to a version that Todd Rungren and his group Utopia did story goes that Jeff was getting pissed that Utopia was getting credit as originators of the song glad you're back from THE BIGGEST ELO FAN and yours
Good job looking at the lyrics too.. dig deep can't think of too many bad songs from ELO. Check out The Fall from ELO, Cheesy video's but a great song.
Listen to ELO live at Wembley. Prepare to be stunned.
This song is sooooo good , brings me back to my youth. Good times.
You are so underrated. Your reactions are gold. This album is what hooked me to ELO when I was only a child.
A New World Record is such a GREAT album.

Great tune, the bridge in the middle is awesome.

This song was originally done when he was in The Move with Roy Wood who went on to become Wizard

Jeff wrote "Do Ya" in 1971, not 1970. It was recorded in 1972 for the 'B' side of Roy Wood's "California Man".
