      @CarswellsCustoms Hello, I am needing help on my 2009 G8 GT, the chassis harness connector (yellow back) I have is cut flush and you show it right after you plug in your J1 and J2 ecm connectors. There seems to be multiple colors the same and brown sets of twisted wires all the same how can I re attach correctly instead of routing a whole new harness in? I have a new chassis harness but I have heard it's horrible to replace.

      @Spartan Link_047 If you are going to do all the work yourself then it can be a good deal. Take someone with you that knows bodywork and look for impact damage, different color bolts or missing bolts on the body panels. I partout G8's and the parts sell quick - which tells me that people are smashing them up. I have a buddy that bought one without taking along a mechanic/body guy and it was full of Bondo! Pick up the ECM and the wiring harnesses I outline along with a donor engine that has a 58 tooth reluctor wheel - USUALLY 2005 and up 5.3 or 4.8 is the budget route. I have a second G8 video that outlines supplemental parts. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions. My email is mymusiconmyiphone@gmail.com

    • @CarswellsCustoms
      @CarswellsCustoms  3 года назад

      It depends on the car's mission... If you want everything to work as stock then the easy answer is yes. If you want to do some experimenting then you would have to see if your 6l80 has the same type of speed sensor as the manual trans, if not - swap the sensors and wire the manual vss into the 6l80 harness and test. I have never done this so I cant say if it will work.

    • @CarswellsCustoms

  • @Railside

    So will this wire harness work with a junkyard 5.3 lol or a 6.0 from a truck since g8 6.0s pretty much don't exist in Canada, will the harness plug into the 5.3s sensors. I have a v6 car and it blew up and just as hard to find a v6 as a 6.0 so thinking 5.3 swap 🤷‍♂️ and info would be helpful like will the stock 5l40 hold up to a stock 5.3? I'm wondering what swapping the harness that goes through the firewall to the passenger kick panel accomplishes, I understand there's extra wires for the tcm, but if the fuse boxes are identical... Well, here I have an oddball situation, I'm putting a garden variety LS back into a G8 GT car, but the original engine bay electronics were cut at that harness under the fuse box. I have a V6 donor car. Do you think I can just play match the wire colors and splice the connector back in?

    • @CarswellsCustoms
      @CarswellsCustoms  3 года назад

      To standardize the swap, and eliminate future errors that I would have to troubleshoot and repair. Since the harnesses have different part numbers and the engine configuration is changed I dont want to rewire the car when the V8 harnesses are available. To help with your swap and identify the differences pick up AllDataDIY its the best. Let me know how it goes!

      We parted it out. We found structural damage that was bondo'ed over and hid. It had a hard impact in the passenger rear that affected the rear door, rear quarter/chasis and moved the IRS subframe over. Crappy deal, the buyer was not a car guy and got taken. We found out when I was upgrading the fuel pump by going in and out of the rear passenger door and the door did not line up. After further investigation we found the body filler.

      Hi Benjamin, I have not run into this problem before but I would first start by checking all grounds in the factory harness and especially check the PCM grounds. The ground on the back of the driver side cylinder head is super weak and breaks all the time. You may have to trace the data link wires back to the ECM from the OBD2 port looking for damage. Once you get the data link going, you can turn off the VATS in the engine computer using HPTuners.

    • @CarswellsCustoms
      @CarswellsCustoms  3 года назад +1

      The 6cyl positive battery cable is shorter than the L76 so that will need to be addressed. The engine mounts and rubber isolators need to be from an L76 car. But inside the car all the connectors are the same except the v6 has a separate transmission controller that needs to be unplugged to remove the v6 wiring harness. To run the chassis harness through the firewall remove the windshield wipers and the plastic cover beneath them along with the heater/ac box that is bolted to the firewall. The v6 harness is a pain to remove so use some patience as there are retaining clips that keep the v6 harness in place. I hope this helps.

    • @CarswellsCustoms
      @CarswellsCustoms  3 года назад

      Answer Part 1: In my opinion all the LS series engines are great because of the head designs are super efficient. You will get more torque with the 6.0 but prices are better for the 4.8/5.3. So lots of variables and everyone has their own opinion and budget. I have built 6.0 5.3 4.8 and taken molds of the cylinder head intake and exhaust runners along with the LSX race heads. You would be suprised how similar the production heads are to the LSX heads. Heads are horsepower and all the LS engines got the goods.

    • @CarswellsCustoms
      @CarswellsCustoms  3 года назад

      Answer Part 2: If you want the factory gauges and the G8 GT computer to work with the 5.3, you will need to change the reluctor wheel on the 5.3 from a 24 tooth to a 56 tooth. That requires complete disssassembly of the engine. I keep a 4.8 crank in my shop with a 56 tooth already installed. Since this can be a pain in the ass, it may be better to purchase a later model engine that has the 56 tooth already installed. BTW, dont buy engines from people you dont trust, dont buy without hearing run, or dont buy without a warranty that has enough time for you to actually complete your project inside the warranty timeframe. Great engines but when they are overheated the heads do crack on the top of the head in the area of the rocker arm bolts.

      Yes, if you check FB Marketplace you can reference the wiring harness numbers that I provided and lots of people are parting out G8's. It makes parts shopping a lot easier.

      @@Sloan3 Join a G8 FB group or dedicated G8 Parts group. That is where I found the harnesses. Also do a FB Marketplace search of "G8 Partout". Be sure join groups that are not in your state as shipping is cheap compared to not having all the parts. GM discontinued the harnesses so it will be a bit tough to accomplish. But hell, nothing worth doing is ever easy!
