Subscribed 100%. I practiced for 6-7 years religiously, theory, reading sheet music, all that. I let it fall to the wayside, thankfully over the last 2 months I have made it a priority to practice everyday. Felt unsure what direction to go in. This is what I needed, not just re-learning the theory I forgot, but actually being able to apply it. Thanks for this bro!

@jacobhartley. I got caught in the trap of obsessively learning theory and sight reading for nearly 10 years neglecting the fun side of electric guitar. I have now dropped most of the scholarly side and am aiming to get physically better, but by calling on theory as I need it.

That is a great way to phrase it! Sounds like we came up similar. My friends were being taught classic rock songs, and all I could think was, "why aren't they learning the circle of fifths, and reading sheet music" lol
Teacher asked what I wanted to learn and what was my end goal, and I told him all the details, and he delivered lol

I'd love to see someone break down the style that John McLaughlin had during his Mahavishnu years. I always wondered why his ideas sounded so distinctly fusiony and different. You certainly have the speed to play his runs so it will be easy for you to catch what makes his solo approach a little quirky.

3:52 - So if I get this right, instead of for example the A major pentatonic, 2nd position, you play the D major pentatonic 5th positon, but keep the A as root note?

Exactly! That's correct. Playing the D major Pentatonic, over A gives the collection of notes we want :)

So over Am you’d play the Em pentatonic ? Do you then bounce between Am pentatonic or Em pentatonic and the 3rd mode of the Em pentatonic?

Mr lewis, I think that you're amazing however I am an old guitarist that was late for about 20 years and now I'm back please explain how you use an E minor pentatonic with a B minor being the fifth are you judging the fifths of an E minor scale or an e pentatonic scale. You see where I'm going with this? LOL also what the positions is seven and so six how do you integrate them with the minor pentatonic you know the box shape please I'm sorry to bother you but I'm so curious? Thank you

Really insightful man! I feel like avoiding that minor 3rd until you want to use it/resolve that suspended sound is so powerful. Idk if it is just me, but I feel like EJ’s sound is heavily based around his sus chord voicings. Would love to know if you agree

You may prefer to call it suspended pentatonic, but -- IT IS! The only widely adopted term besides Egyptian Scale
