In this video I'm going to explain how I came up with a set of scale shapes that allow me to play Yngwie style harmonic minor runs at a fraction of the effort level usually needed.
The concept is simple: Solo using your three note per string Aeolian postions, but whenever the lowest note on a string is the 7th degree of the key, raise it to be the major 7th. This means that most positions will be harmonic minor in one octave and aeolian (natural minor) in another octave. This creates a set of fingerings that are much easier to negotiate that the standard 3 note per string harmonic minor shapes.
If you are a fan of Yngwie Malmsteen but have been struggling to understand where his melodic ideas come from, then this is also a great way to avoid positions that are tough to navigate.

Holy schnikes that was so fast, and melodic and beautiful and makes me realize that I am probably wasting my time were I to ever try and replicate any of it.
Super impressive tho. Wow.
Thank you. I really like & appreciate the .pdf that you wrote as well. GOD bless!
Very well presented. Thank you.
Nice lesson Luke. It’s good to see guitarists taking an interest in Yngwie’s playing. Coincidentally, guitar teacher Wolf Marshall coined the term ‘Harmolian’ in the late 80s for his StarLicks video on Yngwie’s style.
Very Powerful , Amazing discovery , Thank You , Luke you are a Genius .
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!! THIS IS IT!!!! This is exactly how Yngwie gets away with it. OMG. SPeed isn't the issue... it was that ridiculous hormonic stretches... well this fixes all of that. wow. THANKYOUUUUUUUUUU

Maybe he just wanted to playing like yngwie as thats enough for him.
He presented thing in our scope..later your mom present something about garden.. Flower.. Kitty.. Then i think it is terrible if someone asking so u got a big beautiful flower then what? Your son will be clever??
@@joescarecrow9852I agree my friend.
Wow. That is a very clever solution to those awkward fingering patterns, and still captures enough of the raised 7's to give it that exotic flavour overall. Great job... and you said you figured this out when you were 14? Wow
