I do something similar with a piece of wire laid flat on the piece. make it long enough so it goes past both sides. That will help you level it when you can't reach the other side and you can grind it off afterwards. Your way works better of courese as you can raise it up/down and better control as you weld the piece in. Great video as always sir!
If you make the scrap piece overhang on one short side you could rest it on the metal of the opening making it easier to align for the first corner tack weld. It works for me cause I'm too shaky to hold it otherwise. Thanks for your great tips.
They are not always that easy to setup. I also find if the magnet is too close to your weld it interferes with your arc. Also fishing a magnet out of the pocket after it falls in can be a nightmare.
No welding hood, no gloves, this man is a legend!
A simple man, a simple solution! Genius!

Definitely the better RUclips channels for learning practical, common sense approach to custom metal work. Thanks Fitzee for sharing.

Did this to my 87 Square Body after seeing this video. Thanks!
A decent magnet across the plate or a corner will also do the trick.

How would you make the bed floor? From flat sheet metal, can you do a video? Thanks, you do great videos, very professional.
Number of ways. Done in wood. Flat steel or even a bed from.a late model truck or van. The late pickup floor is my plan for my patches project.
Fitzee's Fabrications hi, I’m looking for the original design . On the bed floor. Thanks for your help
Thanks

Just starting body work!
Thanks. Check out my other video on setting up a mig welder.

Welding magnet's will do the job.

@@fitzeesfabrications agreed, magnets near welds results in poor welds.
Nice work, sometimes I just use weld wire to hold it with too.
