Hi Joseph, I'm Boricuas, 72, and had been a salsa dancer all my life. Then I got a severe hip arthritis diagnosis. So, now I walk to salsa music What makes us happy during any stage of life might not work when we go through a severe illness. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger they say.. Aloha.
Diagnosed in November 21 stage IV and surgery then chemo,now sitting here stapled together after liver surgery to remove two masses. Unless someone has been through this, they cannot understand how we feel. My kids don’t get it. They are just arguing about all the care I need. I sat and cried because what you said so hit home with me. I feel like my life is a calendar. Don’t miss an appt!! My son said , I’m too emotional, but this is a trauma you never can recover from. I am also tired of people telling me what I need to do when I feel better. I have no idea. Thanks for the video. 💙

@@JosephRea24 Hi Joseph... I'm currently in remmission and I GET so much what you are saying and feeling! I truly feel exhausted I have stage 4 cancer and Doctors say no sign of cancer NOW, but I feel trauma still, I have PAIN still, I have to continue to get scans and blood work. I really AM surprised I am here too!! Like you said! and tho I did not die, I do NOT feel anything like the OLD Mary I was, that Mary DID die. So much has changed, so much FEAR I had, and still have! Many say, OH are you NOT well yet, oh lets go to beach, people do NOT understand why I still have pain. They do not get that all the severe treatments, radiation and coma I experienced has LEFT me with intractable pain STILL. Doctor can not tell me IF ill ever be out of pain! Its very hard. I can not seem to go forward yet. Doctors say my cancer may come back. When I feel a different pain I find myself scared and sometimes I run back to doctors, I feel STUCK! I know there's no cancer and I almost died 5r times. I I guess have not pealed away all that happened,,as you said YET! Do you ever feel stuck??? ♡Love seeing you again! Thank you for sharing and articulating this. The changes associated with before and after cancer are so difficult to process and explain to other people. You helped me with that. I had colon cancer - and after treatment and then having no evidence of disease, I found myself wanting to be my old self and figuring out how my new self. It is comforting to hear that I am not alone and I appreciate your courage in sharing your feelings - and my hunch is that you do so to help others. Thank you.

I can relate to this too … right after cancer surgery I had no interest in the hobbies that I used to live for before cancer . Don’t really know the why behind it but I recognized it happened
While you were fighting your cancer i survived a Sudden Cardiac Arrest and i died for 12 mins. I was in a coma for a few days on a ventilator . Your videos is everything that i have been feeling also. My life started over from scratch . Nothing is the same. I am not the same person. We are living our second chance. Loved this chat. So much of what you said resonated with me. I feel like my old self died when I lost my mom. I'll never be that girl again. You explained so well what I've been feeling the past 8 years but could never properly explain
@@JosephRea24 life is different and I'm forever different. Sadly my husband and daughter probably miss the lighthearted goofy imo shallow person I used to be, but I'm alot deeper and more serious minded now. I'm still figuring out what makes this new me tick, but I like me so much better now even though I carry alot of pain inside. These last pandemic years and the current economic situation is so worrying that it's probably stalled any blossoming in me. I'm so empathetic now that I can barely watch the news it's all so unsettling.

Hi Joseph, first off I'm happy you are a cancer survivor. I had heart disease for so many years before I ended up getting a heart transplant and I'm doing well. Your feelings resignated with me. My experience in life have been that any traumatic experience we go through ultimately change us. I noticed my choice of people I wanted to spend time with were even different. The past can be difficult to leave behind but I think a very important thing to accept is change can generate growth in who we are and what we pursue. I was diagnosed with melanoma 3 years ago which scared the hell out of me. I’ve lost the ability to enjoy the “party” of life and true enjoyment and the ability to look forward to something. It’s a little sad but I’m happy to have my health. It’s so great to hear from you because I’ve missed your posts and are so glad you are on the road. I also think somewhere in the back of our minds, perhaps we are still worried about our future health. All the best!
Hi Michele. Yes, I am the same way, not feeling in a “party” mood. But I do feel happiness and gratitude for being here and and the simple pleasures in life. Something like this does change us, helps us evolve to the next version of ourselves. I do hope you are doing well!
That you I am well. I had Covid for the first time which lasted 2 weeks and it was rough. I hope we get to a time when this wanes. It’s so inspirational to listen to you and so heart warming to see you so well.
