I worked the mug room at my county jail. I took a lot of unusual booking photos, including some where the arrestee was absolutely coated with something when brought to jail.
One guy had been caught by the family of a young lady he was essentially stalking. He was chased down a dirt road, and tackled in a patch of talc-like dust. In his mugshot, he looked like he'd been dipped in cocoa powder. He actually begged the cops to arrest him to get him away from the family.
Another guy ran from deputies in a rural area, and jumped a fence...landing straight into the manure pit at a stockyard. Booking a dude covered in BS is exactly as bad as it sounds.
The oldest guy I ever booked (age 92) was cold in the holding cell, so he wrapped himself in TP. When I got to him for pictures and prints, he looked like the Crypt Keeper.

It was a big hiring deal announced in the newspaper. A couple of thousand people showed up at the convention center auditorium for a written test...followed by a background check and interviews. I was one of only 30 who made the first cut and got hired.
And, yes...I have tons of amusing memories...and a lot of tales of trauma and crime.
My best guess is I did between 40 and 60 thousand sets of prints in the years I was in the mug room...and I also used to frequently work the housing unit for behavioral problem and psych patients...always a source for weird stories and behavior.

I got the mug room job after I transferred from the federal facility to a county one. Our department was very early to adopt a digital fingerprint computer to take the prints. I got tapped to learn how to use it and became quite good. I did between 40 and 60 thousand sets of prints before I left.
Yes...there's a lot of stories to tell...but they came with a cost. Trust issues develop when you're dealing with bad people all day...every day...and I've know my fair share of bad people also wearing badges.

When his house was cleaned, somebody noticed dusty footprints that didn't match anybody's shoes in the kitchen and realized that somebody else must have been there. The guy had run away before they realized, but he was found on the golf course where my mom used to work. Apparently my mom and her coworkers had to hide in the kitchen for quite a while while the police tried to get the guy. I don't remember if they caught him that day or not, but it's an interesting story.

I grew up in one of those very small towns with less than 500 people, and even though most people had the mindset of it being safe & even left their doors open at all times, there was still occasionally crimes, like robberies and stuff, because people knew who left their doors unlocked. Everyone knew everyone, so most of the addicts who were looking for something to steal knew which houses would have valuables in them, and knew it would be fairly easy to get in. After there was a triple homicide & abduction of two small kids near our town, people started finally realizing that maybe they needed to start being more careful.

I’m leaning towards believing that his relative absolutely knew Robert was there, and she was covering for him. She seemed kinda off, very hesitant, how she was answering the cop’s questions, especially when he was asking for permission to clear her house.

I wonder how the officers would have handled it if she would have told them no.

@@Sammysgrl22 Honestly with multiple shots fired they probably could have gotten away with a warrantless search.

Respect to the officer triple checking with the resident of the duplex to ensure proper permission was granted to canvas the residence
